Rumble Fish: 10/10 would not recommend. Honestly my favorite Hinton book I’ve read so far

The Outsiders (reread #5): 10/10 the classic and only Hinton book I have multiple copies of

can we talk about just how plagued the rumble fish fanbase is with ppl who just... forget there was a book that predated the movie?? reviews all reference the visuals, actors, etc. i dont give a SHIIITTT about the fact that the movie was black and white. we all know why it was black and white. i wanna hear ab the symbolism in relation to rusty james basically inheriting the motorcycle boys colorblindness/deafness, how ppl think he coped w losing the ability to see color, did he also inherit the motorcycle boy's lack of interest in anything? is that why he was described as 'bumming around'??? the rumble fish (maybe) not killing eachother in the river was a metaphor for the motorcycle boys passive suicidal tendencies and their (maybe) subsiding once he got away from the world, from all of his obligations and constraints, on his motorcycle? is that why he loved it sm??? was the rumble fish dying with him what solidified that?? the modern world was the motorcycle boys tank, his constraints, what made him so careless (in the fish's case, agressive), and the whole mirror thing with the fish was just 'being constrained makes me wanna kms but if i was smwhere wherw i was free to live id be good"?? was the motorcycle boy the rumble fish's motorcycle?? their vehicle to freedom??? were the fishs agression and the motorcycle boys passive suicidal tendencies/carelessness parallels??
