Hello my divine gems!😊 I’m back again with my OPLA review, and I wanna get right into it! Here’s the song for this post:
Let’s keep sailing!🏴☠️
ONE PIECE LIVE ACTION (SEASON 2 EPISODE 5🕯️)
HIGH NAMI IS HIGHKEY THE BEST NAMI!!😂 Vivi is still justified for wiping that green paint off though (goodbye high Nami, you will be missed🥺👋🏾).
Lol, that cake reminds me of the screaming cake from Hotel Transylvania😂
+15 points for Usopp being Usopp, I knew in my heart of hearts that he wouldn’t wipe that paint off Luffy’s face😆 He essentially left Louis to die without knowing😅
+20 points for Sanji being Sanji. Him begrudgingly calling out for Zoro and not even saying his name made me guffaw🤣 I never want them to change!🥰
Like I said, 👏🏾NEVER👏🏾CHANGE!
Bruh this episode had me cackling, +20 points for the villains being idiots. Mr. 3 shouldn’t have done that, but it wouldn’t have been One Piece if he didn’t😂
Omg, Miss Goldenweek stabbing Luffy with her fucking paintbrush shocked the shit outta me!😧 +30 points for the intense tone shift, that scene made me straighten up real quick (Sophia Anne Caruso nailed it, every pun intended!😅)
Awww, the anime inspired drawings of the actors was such an amazing touch!😍 +50 points for the production and +30 points for Sanji being Sanji by throwing Zoro’s folder to the side (he was not interested!😆)
MR. 0!!🥳🥳🥳 +30 points for the intense tone shift, that laugh had me shooketh (Joe deserves all the flowers already...well maybe not flowers since he’d kill ‘em😅)
Ayyye, +25 points for the F-Bomb!😁 Love how it was Zoro that dropped it in the first season and now it’s Sanji (*whispers* never change!🤣)
Brogy is hella durable, I shol thought he was dead (the OPLA hasn’t been shy with killing off characters that lived in the anime/manga😅). +50 points for the One Piece being the friends we made along the way, I loved the speech Brogy gave to Usopp about fear/being a strong warrior! Very powerful lessons were learned this episode🥹
+100 points for One Piece being One Piece, the fight between Sanji and Mr. 13 was hysterical!🤣 +20 points for the music, the hold song was a nice touch (it was a jingle from the anime I believe). Also, STOP THE PRESSES BECAUSE MR. PRINCE IS HERE!!🥳 That’s a suave fella who gets the job done right there!😍
+14 points for the anime/live action similarity, Mr. 3 stopping Zoro from sawing through his leg was such a clever way to keep that in the OPLA (without it being too graphic of course😅).
Luffy was going through it this episode with Miss Goldenweek, my lord😩 It got way darker than I expected with her making Luffy almost kill himself, +100 points for Usopp being a brave warrior of the sea and juking Miss Goldenweek to save Luffy from drowning! He truly is the MVP of this episode!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
+50 points for One Piece being One Piece, Mr. 3 squaring up just to run away from fighting Luffy was comedy gold!😆 +20 points for Luffy being Luffy and leaving Usopp on his own to chase after that buffoon, but luckily the MVP took THREE HITS FOR HIS CREW TO BE SET FREE FROM THAT WAX!!🤯
Let’s play a game called: Which Mr. 3 wax statue is your favorite? Mine is my guy posing with his arms crossed against the tree all relaxed!😄 I like to call him “Snazzy Mr. 3”🤣
Sorry but imma need to confiscate dat gun sir, it’s way too creative!👮🏾♀️ +50 points for the props, that’s the perfect weapon for a character like Mr. 5. Speaking of weapons, I can’t wait for Nami’s staff to be replaced with the Clima-Tact next season!🥳
+50 points for teamwork! Props to Nami, Vivi, Usopp, and Zoro for defeating Mr. 5 and Miss Valentine🥳
GODDAMN, MR. 3 GOT CRACKED!! +15 points for Luffy being that one, I loved that spin move!🤩
+50 points for Luffy being a good kind of pirate, this was such a sweet moment!☺️
Not one of Usopp’s stories coming back to bite him in the ass, this was beyond crazy!😆 +40 points for teamwork, those giants whooping that thing’s ass and immediately going back to fighting each other was too cute!!😮💨
+30 points for the intense tone shift, this implies Miss Valentine is dead and I most definitely didn’t expect that level of violence from Mr. 3 of all people😬
+50 points for the Strawhat celebrations, despite it being the calm before the storm (oh Nami-swan….😢).
+50 points for the music, stream “Pray To The Sun” guys!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Afterthoughts:
This was Usopp’s best episode to me personally, he was absolutely perfect and I have no other notes😘
Mr. 3 was fun and I love how the lore of Baroque Works has been interwoven into the main plot! Season one did such a good job setting the foundation, and season 2 was able to hit the ground running. I have no real complaints tbh, I love this series with all my heart🥰 I’ll see you guys next time, peace!✌🏾
one piece baroque works characters (live action continuity) [crack] headcanons (excluding mr. 0, miss all sunday, mr. 7, mr. 11, and miss thursday because i can't think of anything for them at this time).
mr. 3: as a child to his late teen years, he kept the wax from the babybel cheese or its equivalent and made sculpture from them until he was force to throw them out. getting his devil fruit power excited him because that means he can make wax art on a grander scale.
miss goldenweek: doesn't like to be call pippi longstocking or anne of green gables or their equivalent (but i headcanon pippi longstocking is a fictional character in their world via usopp 'creepy longstocking' insult) due to her red hair and braids. once held a funeral for her toy dolls as a little girl.
mr. 5: loves to coordinate his outfits, be it color or fitting of his heavy jacket (no you cannot get him to not wear it) and he takes a long, long time to get ready. tell him that his partner is only fashionista of the duo? you got sixty seconds to apologize.
miss valentine: listens to british invasion bands (the beatles, the rolling stones, etc) or their equivalent. the mod fashion also came to be after doing thrift clothes shopping, a secret joy of her. if you mock her for looking at 'old raggy clothes' she will punch/stomp you.
mr. 8 (igaram): he did not keep the guns in his hair back in alabasta that is totally a mr. 8 thing. speaking of his hair despite looking like it needs lots of hair products he actually doesn't. that said, he does uses curlers when he sleeps to keep their shape/form.
miss monday: was formerly religious, so her act as 'sister' is root in her past. sometimes does the sign of the cross or its equivalent as 'sister' and when not in disguise...usually when the unluckies are sent out. she and mr. 8 saw the aftermath of the orphanage.
mr. 9: a dandy who once had a teddy boy phase. his eye lashes are natural, if you must know. his loyalty to his [former] partner miss wednesday came to be after telling her of his past, and she didn't mock him (she hugged him; the first hug he had in years).
miss wednesday (vivi): wanted to bring karoo when leaving alabasta but realizes bringing her pet duck may give her away. her partnership with mr. 9 isn't an act, at least after he opened up to her. she thinks in another life, under better circumstances, their friendship will last.
the unluckies: both joined at the same time on a friday the 13th, hence their names (very on the nose if you ask). how exactly they can communicate with one another despite not being able to understand one another is a mystery that only animals can comprehend.
I get why many people are glad the live action is actually killing off characters and not making them survive ridiculous circunstances like in the manga, but damn the Baroque Works agent's deaths made me really sad.
Non-manga readers won't know this, but the Baroque Works agents that were left in Little Garden (Miss Goldenweek, Mr. 5 and Miss Valentine) all survive and are trapped there until the end of Alabasta. There's a whole cover story about it (might be my favourite cover story actually) where Miss Goldenweek creates a plan for them to leave Little Garden, find their Baroque Works comrades that had been detained by the Marines and free them. And they manage to do all of that!
What's more impressive to me is that they didn't even know who these people were! They hadn't met most of the other top agents and they didn't know Crocodile was their boss!
I know that the live action made it seem like Mr. 9's loyalty to Vivi was an excception, but that's not really the case, the Baroque Works top agents were actually really loyal to each other (unless they had higher orders from Mr. 0 to kill each other lol).
And they ended up becoming a little family! This is so cute, you can't tell me this isn't a much better end for them than just killing them off.
Also, I know that most people really liked the change to Miss Goldenweek's character (I liked it too), but in this cover story she turns out to be one of the most resourceful and smart characters. She only couldn't free Mr. 2 and Mr. 3 (Crocodile and Mr. 1 decided to go to prison for funsies but they could have been freed in they wanted to), but she literally saved everyone single other top agent from the Little Garden/Alabasta arcs.
Bonus:
Crocodile's dream still is becoming Pirate King, I find this fascinating. Also Daz Bonez looks so cute as a hero!
OPLA Season 2 Spanish Rewatch Episode 4
I love Robin's Spanish dubber. That voice is like velvet. I need to find out who she is. I tried to watch the credits after episode 3 and didn't see anything. Maybe I'll try again after this episode, since this is the most she's spoken so far.
Sanji is so sweet having everybody's lunches packed up and ready. It reminds me of that time in Skypiea where he puts a flower in Robin's hair. I really hope they keep that if we get to Skypiea. It was such a sweet moment for Sanji, and Robin's reaction to it told us that she was not used to being treated like that. But... Sanji loses all sweetness here when faced with Zoro. Thus, their little hunting competition starts. Taz and Mackenyu have that rivalry vibe down.
Emily and Jacob also have Nami and Usopp's sibling dynamic down. Her coming back to talk to him when she realized he had stayed behind was spot on. Nami is always encouraging Usopp because she sees his point of view since she is also not as strong as the others. She does it again when they're in the cave, and we get a hilarious monologue from Usopp. Apparently, Jacob ad libs a lot. I wonder how much of that was on the script and how much was improvisation.
The vibe I was not expecting was Luffy and Vivi. I know a lot of people saw it and felt it because it has been commented on. Personally, I don't ship it, but the chemistry was undeniable. It's also just hard for me to ship Luffy with anyone in general tbh. This was great work by Iñaki and Charithra though. I wonder if it was intentional or if their chemistry is just that good.
The giants look so good too. I watched the podcast and found out how they made those dialogues with the straw hats and the giants work, and it's just amazing the amount of detail and dedication that the team had to adapt Little Garden as faithfully as possible. If you haven't checked out the podcast, you should.
We see Mr. 5 and Miss Valentine arrive, and we see David Dastmalchian as Mr. 3 for the first time. He looks great. Miss Goldenweek is also running around spreading some chaos with her paint. She already got Zoro and Nami. Seeing Mackenyu that giggly sure is different. Emily's paint was green, and it sure looks like she's smoked some green 😂
Mr. 3's nails look good, and his wax house too. I'd get that manicure, and I'd buy that house.
EDIT: I saw Robin's voice actress this time in the credits. Her name is Kerygma Flores, and I just did some digging, and it turns out that she has been dubbing Robin for 20 years in the anime. From the comments on Instagram, it seems like her dubbing is well received in Latin America. Another reason to rewatch the whole series in Spanish one day.
