my current obsession is myocarditis.

most cases are mild and not life threatening but the symptoms are still scary and reminding of a heart attack (chest pain, shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat, heart palpitations, unusual tiredness, feeling weak and light-headed and even fainting) and the best thing is it is often triggered by a viral infection. so you can make your character suffer by giving them a common cold or the flu and then maybe have them do too much too soon (going back to work or working out when they're starting to feel better) and a week or two later they feel so. much. worse. again!!
