how neurotypical and able bodied people look at you when your disability makes you disabled and isn’t just a minor inconvenience
anyone else stay home for a while and be like "hmmmm been acting fine lately. maybe i'm not autistic." and then you have one (1) social interaction and you're like ah. the Autism strikes again.
#82 The Autistic Mistake (Communication with Neurotypicals)
Morgan Stern introduces a simplifying idea with the Larson-Munroe Hypothesis of allistic communication
The Why Do Neurotypicals? series gets more ambitious with a simplifying theory on the fundamental actions of neurotypical communication. Ano
Neurotypicals will tell you for about the first 8 years of your life that lying is one of the worst things you can do, and to never do it under any circumstances, and then spend the rest of your life trying to mold you into a lying machine that tells 27 lies per day.
The older I get, the less some things about neurotypicals make any sense.
I have a theory that neurotypicals are less creative because they live in a world that's designed for them. There's no need to think outside the box when the box is cozy and shaped like you and you've always felt included in it. The othering that neurodivergent people are used to in almost every aspect of life leads to a perspective that's at odds with conventions. It would take considerable effort for a neurotypical to even get a glimpse of this perspective. That's why they make derivative top 40 pop music while autists invent new genres
You all know when a person says ”I enjoy a little bit of everything” or ”I listen to a little bit of everything” it is usually just social code for ”I wouldn’t mind to enjoy most of the things that is considered popular, normal, or basic by societies standards”
They don’t mean they enjoy everything and that’s the point. The answer is supposed to be vague. They don’t mean ”oh I mean speculative botany of Filipino plants” or ”I enjoy tajikan math metal”. It just means that they hypothetically can enjoy something that isn’t considered a resonable hobby/genre by societies standard. once again, it doesn’t mean they automatically enjoy hyper niche stuff. And that’s the point.
