Shinki and Yukiko

BORUTO ERA // SABAKU NO YUKIKO’S PREGNANCY //

At this point Yukiko is pregnant of Gaara. They finally married, discreetly, a few months before, giving a stable home for the baby to come. 

Yukiko abducted, wanting to move with her family. She is no more the daimyo of Land of Iron, her nephew Kumako Nakamura took the succession. 

Yukiko had to face a choice : Following her dream or living longer. Her dream of being a family, following her husband and living with her family in Sunagakure. Knowing this will reduce her life expectancy because of the sun and her albinism. And that’s what she chose. Her happiness even if her life may be shorter. 

However, Gaara thinks for her pregnancy it would be safer that she stays with Ino in Konoha, safe and well surrounded by medical ninjas.

Gaara and Shinki visit her as often as they can but Shinki not being bond by Kazekage duty can travel more often and spend more time watching her. 

Shinki is very worried about Yukiko and very protective over her during her pregnancy. He knows it’s a high risk pregnancy and wants his little sister to come to life healthy. 

He is a bit envious over his coming sister because she is biologically Gaara and Yukiko’s baby and is a bit afraid to feel … off. Yukiko didn’t adopt him yet. 

He also wishes he would have had a mother like her too … 

Shinki is very modest about his feelings, like his father, so he prefers avoiding big emotional moments of goodbyes when he leaves. Which is why he left when Yukiko was asleep.

Yukiko’s kekkai genkai

YUKIKO’S KEKKAI GENKAI — conventional use — Yukiko’s jutsu is a thorn release. It works on the principle of giving life to the plant with her chakra. Nevertheless, its interesting to notice that even Yukiko's production wasn't only about thorns. During childhood it was ivy that surrounded the Nakamura fort, and as she started to suffer from the abuses and locked herself in silence, ivy turned into brambles, imprisoning the fort. How does it work ? Yukiko controls thorns, that she can grow from the ground, feeding itself from her chakra, and taking roots in the ground. Each plants have her chakra running through their roots, so she can move them, they even seem to be alive. The ones that are grey and dry are static and don’t have her chakra in. These are green. In fact her control is often more uncouncious than voluntary, she sometimes had the feeling the thorns were beings with their own will. After all they react if she feels attacked, and can.influence her decisions according to her subconscious. Fun fact : when she is around Gaara, and since their first meeting, some red flowers blossom from her thorns. Limits : When she is deprived of sun or water her thorns are less solid, and aren't mobile, whereas when she if healthy, they can grow strong, lively and move as she wants. As its very subconscious sometimes she cant use it as she would want to ! Pros ? Its a super protection against people, a real shell with thorns. She can also use it to protect people, closed spaces or objects. Since she protected the inhabitants of one of the village of her country during an attack, she got the nickname "Queen of Thorns". There is another use of her jutsu, way less conventional and strictly forbidden, a real taboo. But it can be used for necromancy with the environing plants as a toll. But this will be the subject of another post ! ;) This is a redraw of a piece I drew in October 2019. I actually simplified the drawing a lot.

Capturing memory

🍵 CAPTURING MEMORIES 🍵 This is a photo Temari took a morning at home. Kankuro was teasing his brother for being always so serious even in the morning. Unlike the rest of the house he was already dressed up and ready to go. 

Yukiko was laughing at Kankuro’s grins. Gaara looked at them with amusement. His idiots! Dear idiots … Shikamaru was yawning openly, totally unaware Temari was snaping the moment, freezing it in time. Shikamaru being the one in charge of the communication between Konoha and Sunagakure, he was often in Suna… And especially after the war he was often staying 

at the sibling’s for a day or two. Yukiko on the other hand stayed for longer periods. Breaks from the cold and sadness of Land of Iron, far from the reality of her dysfunctional family. She felt like home with the sand siblings. They made sure she would. If Temari was first a little picky about Gaara’s girlfriend she quickly bonded with her over the most trivial things. Kankuro had immediately accepted her, long before Gaara himself even realised his feelings for her. She had a positive influence on him, like Naruto. She was appeasing him, and that Temari saw too. Yukiko’s spontaneity and genuine kindness was refreshing. And as she was also very cultivated and had a huge imagination, discussions were endless with her. Even Gaara could find himself quite talkative and open around her. She was a good listener. Having Yukiko home allowed Gaara to breath a bit from his kazekage duty. 

Having her singing around and just being herself was brightening their monotonous days. She always had new crazy ideas and projects. She mostly got outside after sun set or at dawn, but if she was to go out she would take her umbrella Gaara gave her.
