AU where half the professors are either killed off in the Battle of Hogwarts or retire so McGonagall is a little desperate to get teachers for the next year and she ends up re-hiring Remus bc he did a good job with defence and she also hires Sirius bc he was the best transfiguration student she's seen in several decades that's still alive. Plus he's an animagus and she's always had a soft spot for her kind.
Except she doesn't actually realize the madness she's inflicted on herself until first day of staff meetings when Sirius smirks and sits across from Severus, who scowls deeply. Remus sits next to Sirius and innocents reviews his lessons plans, but his mouth twitches like he's struggling not to smile.
And then Harry Potter changes his mind and signs up for his 8th year, and is almost as inseparable from Sirius as James had been. Everywhere she looks its Lupin following Harry following Sirius with Severus sneaking around keeping an eye on them absolutely certain they're up to something (he's right; they're planning one last maurader prank in remembrance of James).

Regulus scoffed when Pandora announced the first spell they would be practising. Pandora glared at him, and James moved to shield him. He’d never seen her so present. She was terrifying.
Pandora made them pair off and start casting Expelliarmus at each other, trying to disarm their partner while the other tried to keep their wand in their hand.
James’s wand had flown out of his hand at least ten times now. Regulus was powerful. James couldn’t keep his wand in his hand at all.
“Alright, time to switch,” Pandora announced, and now it was James’s turn.
He tried. He really did, but he simply could not disarm Regulus.
“Wow, love, you’re amazing,” James said, totally in awe of his boyfriend.
“Everyone, try to disarm Regulus at once!” Pandora demanded. They formed a circle around Regulus. James didn’t like the idea of eight people pointing their wands at him. Regulus didn’t seem to mind, though, as he stood, lazily holding his wand with a huge smirk on his face. “NOW!!!” Pandora yelled, and they all cast Expelliarmus on him. Not a single person managed to disarm him. Regulus’s eyes flashed wickedly, and a sly smile curled his lips. He didn’t even say the spell. He flicked his wand, and eight wands flew towards him. He plucked them out of the air and crossed his arms across his chest, quirking an eyebrow at their stunned faces.
“I vote Regulus is our new teacher,” Remus said when Regulus handed his wand back.
“I second that!” Peter agreed, and with that, it was decided that Regulus would be put in charge of their little army. James couldn’t be prouder.
