green arrow: secret files & origins
important: i have a seperate reading order for ga/gl, alongside lists for the other arrows. i will NOT be including anything from mike grell's longbow extreme hunters or green arrow (1988) run as it has extreme anti-Black, anti-asian, and anti-Indigenous racism as well as extreme misogyny. for some reason if this does not turn you off of it, it is also extremely out of character for many of the characters and is a mockery of green arrow.

The first long-term run that Deadpool had began in 1997 and was written by Joe Kelly. This is generally considered one of the better runs on the character, and introduced or developed many of the character traits and supporting cast we associate with Deadpool today (e.g. 4th Wall breaks, Blind Al & Weasel, etc). With that said, here's the order:
Deadpool (1994 Limited Series) #1-4
Deadpool (1997 Series) #1-5
Deadpool (1997 Series) #-1
The '94 Limited Series wasn't written by Joe Kelly (it's actually written by Mark Waid and features some of my favourite Deadpool writing), but Kelly's run begins right off the back of it. It's Deadpool's second ever limited series, and unlike the first one, doesn't really tie much into any other plotlines. It's just a Deadpool book. This also sets up Deadpool's first meeting with Siryn, and a couple other moments and plot elements that come up during Kelly's run.
#1-5 is the first story arc of Kelly's run, and more or less deals directly with the events of the previous series. As for #-1, this was part of a series of issues in a pseudo-event called "Flashback". While the issue, I believe came out after issue #6, narratively it fits a bit better here, since 6 is the beginning of the second arc. While there may be narratively an even better place for this issue, placing it here at least means you'll have read it any time the issue is referenced going forward.
Deadpool (1997 Series) #6-7
Daredevil/Deadpool Annual 1997
Deadpool (1997 Series) #8
Deadpool (1997 Series) #9
X-Force #71
Deadpool (1997 Series) #10-11
Deadpool (1997 Series) #0
Issues 6-8 + the 1997 annual make up one story arc, while 9-11 make up another. Issue #0 is basically entirely disconnected from everything and is only worth reading if you're a completionist. It IS at least written by Joe Kelly, which is why it's here at all.
X-Force issue is essentially a cameo. It's referenced in Deadpool #10 but not required reading by any stretch of the imagination.
Side note, I also struggled to figure out quite when it was released. The Marvel Unlimited app says December '96, but the wiki says Jan '98. The issue also makes reference to the events of Deadpool #6 and says that they happened a year ago, so I'm inclined to believe the wiki.
Deadpool (1997 Series) #12-14
Deadpool (1997 Series) #15-17
Deadpool & Death Annual 1998
Deadpool (1997 Series) #18-19
Deadpool (1997 Series) #20
Heroes for Hire #10-11
Deadpool (1997 Series) #21-22
Here are some more arcs. Deadpool makes significant guest appearances in Heroes for Hire, and I believe issue 10 indicates that the story takes place sometime after DP17, but since that's the middle of a story arc that has no space to be interrupted, I looked for the next most appropriate place for it. The story ends kind of abruptly though, particularly for Deadpool's involvement.
Deadpool (1997 Series) #23-25
Deadpool (1997 Series) #26-27
Deadpool (1997 Series) #28-30
Deadpool (1997 Series) #31-33
Wolverine Annual 1999
Here's the last stretch of the run! once again broken up into story arcs (although given their lengths, it may be more appropriate to call them segments of story, especially since everything after Issue 25 feels almost like an epilogue).
Wolverine Annual isn't written by Joe Kelly, or refer much to the actual plot of the run, but Deadpool makes a significant guest appearance in it, and there is explicit reference made to the events of Deadpool #27
Irrelevant/not canon appearances in general are not included, no matter if they are a single panel or a complete saga.

18. THE THANOS IMPERATIVE
It can be convenient at least know the context and a summary of War of Kings event, and, specially, it’s continuation Realm of Kings, because first Thanos’ appearance in The Thanos Imperative takes place as result of this second event. Plus, it is the reason why he is in the next Guardians of the Galaxy chapters.

——— ———— ————
At the end of The Thanos Imperative, it’s clear that no one knew what to do with Thanos, but he had to start becoming an important character in the comics because he was going to be the main villain the in movies. So they decided to reboot the character in a more dark tone, changing basic features of original Thanos, for a more modern view. In particular, they made official the idea of Thanos never getting over his obsession with Death; indeed, she is manipulating him since birth. This was because most of the public never followed the main canon properly, so Thanos was more known because of his sporadic appearances during 20 years as a standard basic villain, his obsession with Death never forgotten (and being she the responsible of that obsession and his acts), as if the development after Infinity Gauntlet never took place.
Thanos and Gamora relationship is going to change too, gradually, and Nebula will become Thanos’ daughter too, both cases adapting the movies canon. Plus, in this new canon, Adam Warlock and Pip aren’t included as Thanos’ related characters.
19. THANOS RISING
Thanos Rising #1
Thanos Rising #2
Thanos Rising #3
Thanos Rising #4
Thanos Rising #5
Based on the reboot, Jonathan Hickman put Thanos as one of the villains of this series Avengers, New Avengers and Avengers World, that taked place at the same time during some years with a unique plot (ok, Avengers World started later in his run). The first turning point of this run was the event Infinity, in which not only Thanos is introduced, but it’s also the most influential work for everything related to his lore at this moment. If you are interested only in Thanos part, you can read his plot understanding the main ideas, and ignore the rest of the event. Problem is that, after Infinity, the series continued to a shared ending in the next event, Secret Wars, and Thanos appears sporadically to the end. My recommendation, if you don’t want to read the three series from the very beginning, is to search for a detailed summary to know what’s happening at any moment. Otherwise, even if his part in Infinity can be understand, the rest to Secret Wars is nearly impossible.

Actually, only the first part, The Infinity Revelation, was published at this moment. The rest of the graphic novels and the mini-series were released during the next years. But as this is the end of Starlin canon for Thanos, and has nothin to do with the official Marvel canon, I prefer to put all of it here for a simple reading.

Before the second Thanos’s regular series was approved, Starlin signed an agreement to make a new graphic novels trilogy about Thanos because Marvel wanted new material about him for IW release. At this moment Starlin can’t draw because an accident, so he works with Alan Davies. Shorly after the first part was published, the plot of the second part of the regular series was known, and Starlin was furious with Marvel because, according to him, they are copying his story. However, he accepts to end the trilogy because Davies involvement. Again, this story has nothing to do with current Thanos in Marvel canon.

This is my full DC humour comic reading list. I can't lock notes on my phone, but I honestly wish I could. Because if I add any more to this damned list, it'll stretch for miles and miles. I just have to settle for everything I have here. We have 60s humour comics, some 90s and 2000s tie in tv show comics, some scooby doo/dc crossover stuff, some graphic novels, the list goes on. If any of the things on the list seem unfamiliar, it's probably because I learned of them through either exploring the website I now use for comic reading, or from exploring the DC wikis. I am half tempted to add the other stuff made by the Tiny Titans people to this list, even if it isn't DC. Their artstyle and sense of humour was always so visually pleasing. I adored it as a kid. So would it be weird if I put the rest of their stuff (even non-dc related) on the reading list? That's what i'm pondering now...

Back when I was reading marvel comics, I made myself a reading list to ensure two things:
1: That I wouldn't get lost while reading and then end up unable to keep reading.
2: That I would try to force myself to keep reading to check off certain things on my list, even if my hyperfixation was starting to wake.
I've continued trying to make a reading list for DC (now that I read most of what I wanted from Marvel), but it's so much harder. I'm having to literally make up fake books for this (I've made up a whole book line named DC Deluxe Collections, because I wanted alliteration like Marvel Masterworks). I'm having to account for 50 million characters (the superman and batman families alone are downright killer to track).
I've had to track Characters from the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s. Characters from Fawcett, from DC, from Quality, etc. I'm having to do all of this and more, even though there's a good chance I won't read most of the stuff i'm writing down. So it's annoying and more trouble than it's worth. I'm getting so tired of it that I think I need to just share it on here now. Get new eyes to ensure mine don't miss stuff as I slowly force myself to track probably close to 100 characters.
