Batman isn’t unreasonable.
There’s this weird fandom belief that Bruce fires robin if they breathe too loudly.
Something about this has always bugged me because if you actually read the comics almost any interaction of Bruce and the kids as actual robin, he’s nice. Cracks jokes, has conversations with them.
Sure, there are instances of more complicated situations or specific writers doing something for their own pleasure or for a specific story.
Dick’s firing is very much an outlier because it was a very specific situation and was not meant to be taken as Bruce hates his son.
He loves Dick Grayson, he will die loving Dick Grayson.
One of the biggest example I see used for this narrative is Stephanie’s Robin run. Yes misogyny influences the writing but once again in universe fuck our perspective fuck DC. I’m talking about this as if I’m in the universe explaining character motivations.
Bruce treated Stephanie the exact same way he treated Tim at the very beginning, the differences between those two situations and the reaction were caused by Stephanie and Tim’s behavior.
Comparing and contrasting actual comic book panels from that time you will be able to see the exact reason his reaction changes.
Another side of this that also I’ve always felt extremely untrue. Is that Bruce Wayne is sexist, Bruce does not actually care if it is a girl or a boy in a Robin suit.
His expectation is that he can trust them, he can keep them alive if he cannot do that especially right after Jason he’s gonna lose his shit.
Too many people look at one basic comic, and interpret that as its own thing versus seeing as one part of the story.
* i’m not usually such a die hard Bruce defender but it really pisses me off when people don’t grasp character, motivations, and Bruce’s has always been very simple.
Making sure Robin comes home.
