Mother's Basement, aka Jeff Thew, just made a great video on Logan Paul's entire "speculation" scheme, which is now starting to target manga.

Jeff points out how ridiculous manga as a speculation scheme is. Most manga is cheap and printed on even cheaper paper; popular manga basically never goes out of print; manga is never "perfectly" printed because of the inherent nature of book printing; manga that DOES go out of print is highly prized because you can read it, so if you wrap it in plastic and put it in a case it basically becomes an expensive but useless doorstopper, etc.

There are SO MANY reasons why manga isn't like trading cards or even comic books, and the same goes for other media like DVDs and Blu-Rays (which some people are already trying to turn into a speculation market). But grifters like Logan Paul keep trying to make it happen anyway, leading to bottom-feeding scalpers ruining the hobby for the people who actually enjoy it.

But seriously FUCK scalpers. I loved collecting pokemon cards as it was one of my first big interests and then I came back to it as a slightly older kid with the market in fucking shambles. I will be stealing ETB’s out of their cart just to fuck with them. I’m aware that the topic at hand has little to nothing to do with the concept of Functionalism except for the “pushing against the status quo” part but I thought Dominus’s moment here was fitting regardless.

I LOVE that all the collectors editions of Life is Strange Reunion are already sold out on the Square Enix website. I love even more that they're being sold on ebay for more than double the original price. Love it. Absolutely love it. Fuck scalpers! Fuck resellers!
