20 Types Of Dere In Anime To Know So You Don’t Just Call Everyone a Tsundere

Expand your anime repertoire and pick up new words with this comprehensive list of the types of dere you can find in anime and manga.

I had no idea there are so many types of “Dere”. 😂

So which one are you? 😏

1. Tsundere

Someone who treats their loved ones coldly and tries to deny their affection which is obvious to everyone but them. 

2. Hajidere Someone who blushes and is clearly embarrassed or acting out of character when they’re around their crush. 

3. Dandere

Someone reserved and shy around unfamiliar people as they fear of being judged by others for being silly.

4. Kuudere

Someone who is cool, emotionless, and hardly talk because they’re not interested but is actually caring.

5. Shundere 

Someone who is gloomy and seldom smile, not because of any tragedy but it’s just their personality.

6. Hinedere

Someone who is cold and cynical, a realist who appears arrogant to others but is just a direct person.

7. Darudere 

Someone who has trust issues and have difficulty letting others into their lives, so appears to be unbothered.

8. Oujōdere 

Someone who is matured and kind, loves to help others and find joy in making others happy.

9. Himedere 

Someone spoiled who see themselves as better than others and acting like a boss ordering others around.

10. Usodere 

Someone insecure who lies about themselves to present the perfect version of themselves to be accepted by others.

11. Undere

Someone who is a people pleaser that couldn’t say no and agrees with everything in order to be accepted by others.

12. Deredere 

Someone chill and easy going that rarely get jealous of others and is a ray of sunshine to everyone around them.

13. Byōkidere

Someone who suffers from an illness and wishes to make the best out of life before theirs come to an end.

14. Yandere 

Someone who suffers from mental health condition and is possessive over their loved ones.

15. Dorodere

Someone who is confused with their own feelings and thinking so have conflicting character and personality.

16. Nyandere 

Someone who love cats to bits, to the extent of acting like one around their loved ones. 

17. Bakadere 

Someone pure, naive and clumsy who seems to be living in their own bubble, detached from reality.

18. Kekkondere

Someone rash and impulsive when it comes to love and marriage, following their heart more than their mind.

19. Yottadere 

Some one who gets flirty and chaotic when drunk but control the urge to drink when with their loved ones.

20. Mayadere 

Someone who changes their behaviour and switches side after falling in love with their rival or enemy.

Popular Combinations of the Dere Types

Not every character fits into one single dere type, which is why I came up with the list of the popular combinations here.

Keep that in mind, this blog will not be about how popular the names of the dere types are. A teasedere is a lesser known dere type, and yet there are many characters inside and outside of anime/manga who fit into this trope. That is why they’re in my view, popular. Same goes with the hybrid dere types.

Now, let’s begin.

Kuudere-Yandere

This I believe is the most popular dere combination. Unlike pure yanderes who are sweet on the outside, these characters are first seen as kuuderes; cold and aloof. They either seem emotionless or they were actually emotionless to begin with. That is until they fall in love, when their possessive nature kicks in.

I believe Ayano Aishi from Yandere Simulator was also a kuudere (with a sprinkle dash of hajidere when around senpai), as she was cold and distant until she found senpai.

Tsundere-Yandere

This hybrid trope is growing in the media. Again, they’re not sweet on the outside like pure yanderes are. They are known to be very harsh towards their crush while they take out competition behind their love interest’s back.

Kuudere-Tsundere

Someone can seem calm but there are a few occasions when they can also be hot-headed depending on the situation. It takes a while for them to warm up to their love interest.

Kuudere-Undere

A calm character who agrees and submits to their love interest so they can stay with them. These characters are quiet and very submissive.

Kamidere-Yandere

Take someone so obsessed with the person they love to a point they’d commit a crime, then add it with a God Complex. Lordly, prideful, overconfident, but also lovesick and deranged. Yeah this is not going to go well.

Dandere-Dorodere

A shy and quiet character who is disturbed on the inside. It’s a common trait in most medias, anime/manga especially.

Hajidere-Megadere

It isn’t uncommon for fanboys or fangirls to get flustered and faint whenever they come into contact with their favorite popstars, or for some characters to stalk their crushes because they’re too scared to approach them.

Shundere-Tsundere

This hybrid dere is a dere version of the trope called a tsunshun. Tsunshun describes a character acting hostile first, then later feeling depressed when alone. You could say this hybrid dere type is a tsunshun with a love interest.

Megadere-Undere

These guys fanboy/fangirl over their crush, they are much more agreeable and not to mention extremely submissive. This combination would make these characters act more like slaves.

Dandere-Shundere or Dandere-Utsudere

Self-isolation due to a fear of getting hurt or embarrased can lead to some dandere characters to also become shunderes or utsuderes.
