My name is Beau (they/he), I’m the queer, transmasculine, xenogender, neurodivergent & plural artist behind the webcomics AphidClan, Shelter, and a few other smaller side projects I chip away at here and there.
I’ve been making comics from the very beginning of when I started drawing, around 14 years ago. Thats 14 years of comics! As a little kid I would sketch my pages traditionally, and then bind them together as one big book with a stapler. As I grew up, I started transitioning into making my comics digitally, and I’ve been hooked ever since. Check it out, a Baby Beau comic !!
I fell in love with reading comics at a very young age, being massively inspired by the webcomics I’d read on Deviantart back in the day (most notably goblin discord comics), the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic graphic novels, the Pokémon Adventures manga series, and the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Ginji’s Rescue Team manga series. I always dreamed of making comics just like them, so I took my pencil and my paper, and I never stopped. And look at me now! Still pursuing comics to this day, with a love for the medium that hasn’t even flickered since.
My current ongoing webcomics are:
Welcome to Aphidclan! Where a bunch of brightly colorful sparklekitties live in a polluted, dull, depressing land with a hunger for blood that can’t be sated. Aphidclan is a 15+ rated Warrior Cats Clangen xenofiction webcomic that features themes of suggestive/adult language, cursing, religious themes + religious abuse, cults, violence, blood + gore, grooming, manipulation, childhood neglect, and abuse.
You can read Aphidclan on the @aphidclan-clangen tumblr blog (you are here!) or on ComicFury!
An eternal fog permeates the birch forest. There are strange “cats” in the fog, and the cats living in the Shelter must learn how to survive as a group living in the strange world surrounding them. Only problem is, these “cats” are the only living creatures that inhabit the woods, and every one of them is a carnivore. Everyone is meat, and everyone is hungry. Can these cannibals manage to work together in harmony without killing each other first? Shelter is a gothic horror xenofiction webcomic about intimacy and cannibalism. It is rated 18+ for excess/graphic amounts of blood, gore, body horror, and prominent mature themes, including themes of sexual abuse/SA, consent, toxic/unhealthy relationships, abuse, mature language, suggestive themes/implied sexual content, and graphic violence. This comic may feature disturbing, triggering, or upsetting content. Please read at your own discretion.
You can read Shelter on the @shelter-clangen blog, or on ComicFury!
Those two consume most of my time and energy, so I’m not usually capable of doing much else project-wise, but here’s a sneak peak of some webcomics I’m currently chipping away at on the side every blue moon, and would love to pursue full time once Aphidclan and Shelter are complete.
You can also support all of my comics on Patreon, where you can see my concept art, behind the scenes work, storyboards, and read pages weeks in advance!
And just as a bonus, here’s my process on how I make my pages!
(flashing images warning for the speedpaint below, theres some brief flashing colors during a few seconds of it)
I currently make my comics in IbisPaint X. I always start with the scripting before anything else, but once I start the art process it's storyboards first, which I usually finish in big batches in advance, and then I do lineart, then color, then backgrounds, shading/lighting, and lastly finishing touches, like the strands of hair on Gravel’s locs, or the colorful outline that I use as a highlight (that I draw manually every time), or any small errors I’d made from the previous stages. Occasionally I do rendering, but I usually try to keep that at a minimum since it can be so time and energy consuming.
That’s pretty much everything though I think… Happy Webcomics Day! On to another year of a wonderful time making webcomics!! <33
