Hey there, Charlie! It's me, Pat. I finally caved and bought a smart phone, and it's a good thing I did, because I have some bad news. My bus broke down again, so I'm going to be home late. I'm really sorry man, hopefully this won't hold me up for too long, but you know how the city is, everything's a process. Anyway, please keep Katie company for me, I feel terrible when I leave her home alone for too long. I'm looking forward to catching up with you this weekend, see you soon!
Hello, Pat. I'm delighted to see you've finally decided to join the rest of us in the twenty-first century.
I'm so sorry to hear about your awful predicament. How dreadfully inconvenient for you. With those budget cuts the company has been making, I'm sure you'll be waiting a good long while for help to arrive. But least you'll have your smartphone to keep you company.
No need to fret, cousin. I've got everything in hand, as always. I promise I'll make sure Katie doesn't get too lonely. I'm sure we'll manage to find some way to amuse ourselves, and while away the hours and hours until your return.
And don't feel like you have to hurry back, Pat. It's not a problem if you decide to stop off at the bar for a beer or three to help you unwind after your stressful day.
I'm sure Katie won't mind at all ...
