So I saw a yt short about the three Fates in ancient Greece. He described the very basic process of how they weaved the thread of Life, but he said "not much thought goes into it really" and it came off so disrespectful to the whole meaning of it. Allow me with my limited knowledge to add to this and clear out that sentence.
Fate in ancient Greece was more powerful than the Gods. When the Fates had made their decision, no one, not even the Gods were in place or power to change the person's fate.
So, so many ancient Greek tragedies, stories and myths have a plot that originates from the curiosity of humans, whether that is defying nature or the Gods. Nothing comes to mind when it comes to defying Fate. When I asked my teacher (φιλόλογος, μας έκανε Ελένη φέτος) about it, nothing came to mind, and she told me that everyone knew how powerful Fate was, there was no point in even THINKING to defy her.
Sometimes understanding the non-material value of something is more important than learning how it works.
If there is anything I missed or misunderstood here please tell me! :D
That's totally true. Nobody could defy the Fates, not even Zeus!
I love how you did Hades's daughter Makaria!! Normally it takes easy for one kid to grown like for someone their own parents think it's okay, but it wasn't for Makaria! I like the talk with the 3 Sisters too, it gives off a feel that it won't be an easy trip but you'll eventually reach it feel. And I wonder, since we got to choose our own names, will we be able to greet Persephone?
Hi anon!
I’m glad you like Makaria and the Moirae!
And you do get to choose PC’s name and gender but they are still taking the role of Persephone/Dionysus so those gods do not otherwise exist in the story, no.
The Moirae were the three goddesses of fate who personified the inescapable destiny of man. They assigned to every person his or her fate or share in the scheme of things.
At the birth of a man, the Moirai spinned out the thread of his future life, followed his steps, and directed the consequences of his actions according to the counsel of the gods. It was not an inflexible fate; Zeus, if he chose, had the power of saving even those who were already on the point of being seized by their fate. The Fates did not abruptly interfere in human affairs but availed themselves of intermediate causes, and determined the lot of mortals not absolutely, but only conditionally, even man himself, in his freedom was allowed to exercise a certain influence upon them. As man's fate terminated at his death, the goddesses of fate become the goddesses of death, Moirai Thanatoio.
The Moirai were independent, at the helm of necessity, directed fate, and watched that the fate assigned to every being by eternal laws might take its course without obstruction; and Zeus, as well as the other gods and man, had to submit to them. They assigned to the Erinyes, who inflicted the punishement for evil deeds, their proper functions; and with them they directed fate according to the laws of necessity.
As goddesses of birth, who spinned the thread of life, and even prophesied the fate of the newly born, Eileithyia was their companion. As goddesses of fate they must necessarily have known the future, which at times they revealed, and were therefore prophetic deities. Their ministers were all the soothsayers and oracles.
As goddesses of death, they appeared together with the Keres and the infernal Erinyes. Alongside Themis the Moirai presided over the sacred laws of heaven, with Styx over oaths, and together with the Erinyes over filial loyalty and proscription.
The Moirae [the Doman/Othard-born resistance cell behind Gilded Pony] is currently looking for Doman/Othardian/Ala Mhigan peoples, or even those of unrelated Eorzean birth who are interested in pledging themselves to the effort focused on tearing down the Empire.
The Moirae has been established for fourteen long years, and has only been in Eorzea for the past two after a portion of their forces fled to Eorzea to find solace and more bodies for the effort. Their focus has changed since then, realizing that without foreign aid, Othard has no chance of pushing back the occupation. Now putting their resources towards the Ala Mhigan resistance effort, Aran Sutorei and the Moirae hope to assist the Gyr Abanians in pushing the Empire out. When Ala Mhigo follows suit with Ishgard in joining the Eorzean Alliance, then and only then the Moirae can hope to convince the Alliance that the next logical course of action in destroying the Empire is freeing Othard and forging a new military alliance.

The time for preparation has come to pass, and a return to productivity and proactive action is in order. With Gilded Pony now firmly set as a self-sustaining business again, the Moirae can rise from the squalor imposed by their forced asylum in Eorzea. Their front company is stabilized, their numbers have gathered, and their focus has returned to the matter at hand.
Eorzea-based operations means bringing in Eorzean-born interests.
The Moirae is an Othardian resistance cell previously based out of Doma and her outlying villages. For an epoch and more, the cell has worked alongside like-minded individuals in the interest of routing Garlean elements, ensuring the safety of refugees, and amassing wealth and resources to be used to further their agenda. Above all else, secrecy has ever been a core foundation.
As anyone will tell you, Doma is no more. The resistance effort came to a head when Lady Yugiri Mistwalker led her resistance cell and other affiliated cells into open rebellion. A valiant attempt that ultimately ended in failure, the razing of Doma, and the loss of untold numbers of resistance fighters and citizens on all fronts. The Moirae is no different in that it suffered heavy losses, but unlike many other cells, they do not find the loss of their home-land to be the end of the effort. Othard is still occupied, Doman villages still remain, and their culture still survives with those who yet live.
Asylum in Eorzea is temporary. A return to Othard and a return to the collective efforts of the remaining cells is a future certainty, but their numbers must swell, resources and contacts must be collected, and foreign allies are a must.
What is The Moirae? The Moirae is, as described, an Othardian, Doma-born resistance cell consisting of a vast number of affiliates from the Steppes to the island nation of Sharlayan, from those remaining in the Far East to those beyond the Sea of Ash. Their primary mission is the removal of Garlean elements from Othard, but they cannot do it alone. The Moirae’s primary objective in Eorzea is to build enough clout and influence to prove to the powers that be in Eorzea that Othard needs foreign aid. Garlemald will ever threaten Eorzea unless they are destroyed, and that means taking back Ala Mhigo. Taking back Othard. Until then, they will do what they can to thin the influence of Garlemald within Eorzea and in the holding between her shore and beyond in the Sea of Jade.
I play an Othard-born character and want to join! Great! This is fairly simple, but given Moirae’s secrecy, your character will be the one approached! This can be handled a number of ways, whether they were a previous contact of the Moirae, or are simply someone Aran and his Watch were aware of. A book of potential affiliates is in Aran’s possession, and he has tracked down a number of people who have taken refuge in Eorzea after the fall of Doma. Message J’aran Tia and we can discuss how best to bring your character in!
My character isn’t Othardian, but would be interested in helping! How we’ll bring you in will be dependent upon your character! Joining Moirae isn’t supposed to be easy, because Aran needs to have a reason to trust someone with sensitive information. We can either bring them in whole-sale based on their past efforts, or they can join Gilded Pony, where Aran can watch them and eventually bring an offer to the table! A number of current Moirae members have been brought in the latter way.
I want to join, but my character has no past with the resistance and I don’t think they would join Gilded Pony of their own volition. It’s just not congruent with their primary interests. If you want to join but aren’t sure that your character would seek out employment at a burlesque club, then Aran can have Pony talent scouts out to approach your character in the interest of watching them closely to see if they would be a good fit for Moirae! That way you’re brought in because your character is wanted, instead of your character seeking out Gilded Pony because you OOCly want to join the Moirae!
We’re looking for contacts, field operatives, researchers, menders, and more! Contact J’aran Tia for more information.
