Gamzee x Tavros:
Gamzee is violent and angry, a being of Rage, who is rooted deeply in his feelings and reality. While Tavros is as non-violent as can be and is super kind and soft, a being of Wind, of freedom from reality.
They are both dorks and most characters hate them/have negative interactions. Tavros is the only one being nice to Gamzee and taking into account the fact that Gam grew up lonely, no wonder he fell in love.
This ship can have their cute moments like both of them sharing a single braincell and do silly things but ALSO have angst! Like how Tav is more "good" but Gam is more willing to do "bad" stuff. And also the difference in lifespan is a big source of angsty feeling. But generally this is such a cute ship. They get each other because both of them are "weird". Together their bond would be so unbreakable, no matter the quadrant, but I think they work best in red ones.
Gamzee is violent and is a Rage player, strongly rooted to the real world. Tavros is more peaceful and a Breath player, easily swayed and with a loose connection to the real world. They balance each other out.

In my opinion, KatNep is a ship that would have entirely changed the trajectory of the story if it had become canon in the alpha timeline. Nepeta didn't get a lot of screentime or development, but as a Rogue of Heart in a group of highly emotional trolls with relationship issues she could have done so much more and teaming up with Karkat who also is very nosy about people's relationships they could have achieved so much and become the greatest leaders of any team ever. They balance each other out so well, and Karkat has a higher respect for her than many might realize. He doesn't want to break her heart by rejecting her, he doesn't want Eridan to dismiss or mock her, saying she's a "person with feelings" which is a rare thing for him to say, he's on genuinely good terms with her even when he thinks she's kind of cringe. But in my opinion Karkat needs cringe. He needs to have his walls gently eroded and be encouraged to be vulnerable and have fun and not be so harsh on himself and others. Nepeta meanwhile needs someone who thinks she should take up space and not take any shit, and would defend her verbally. In canon I also really love how doomed timeline Karkat gets to be with dead derse dreamer Nepeta, it feels like the version of Karkat who got to take a break and be happy and reconnect with someone he has felt guilt and warmth for who would be able to sooth him after failing once again to lead them forwards. Nepeta would get someone who comes back to her understanding all her worth now that they aren't distracted by all the shit going down. They truly are the "rest and be well" ship in my heart ♡ They have so much in common but never get time to bond about it, but that's what shippers like me are for! Fanfic time :3 There are a million different ways to write them that can be so very interesting

katnep tends to be a very nepeta-sided ship. nepeta would want you to vote for katnep. it's nepeta's OTP. nepeta is the one with a flushed crush on karkat. and if we're being completely honest? she could fix him. but if we look from the other side, from karkat's angle, look at how he talks about nepeta at various points in act 6. when he expresses annoyance at having to interact with the dancestors, who he doesn't know, in the dream bubbles, and how he would rather see his dead friends, NEPETA is one he brings up. she's the first one on his mind. he says that he was aware of her crush, and that he never brought it up with her because he wanted to let her down gently. that hesitance shows that he cared enough about her to not say anything to her that would push her away. yeah, karkat's close with the other beta trolls, but he's normally not afraid to be a prick to them. the best piece in katnep's favor, in my opinion, is their alternian ancestors. The First Ship. the disciple and the signless, who mirror nepeta and karkat far better than they do their own beforan counterparts. in many ways, nepeta and karkat come off as reincarnations of their own ancestors. in both instances, their love was tragic, cut short, not meant to be. serenade and requited are THE saddest pair of songs in all of homestuck. karkat's mutation aside, he and nepeta sit right next to each on the hemospectrum. lime and olive. forever entwined. both are in moiraillegiances that aren't entirely right for them. both have an acute awareness and investment in the personal relationships of their friends, and a broader interest in quadrants. picture them watching romcoms together. are you picturing it? you're not picturing it hard enough. karkat gives in and willingly roleplays with nepeta. imagine what he must think of her to actually do that. i'm not confident in the Katnep Nation's ability to beat davekat when (and if) it comes down to it, but you know what? i just think they're neat :) hetgem truthers forever
