80M (1%) people are estimated to have DID. The American population is around 343M, so one quarter of Americans roughly have DID. This doesn't take into account OSDD, DPDR, which may be more or less prevelant.

Meet the Alters + explaining myself?
TW VENT, PERSONALITY DISORDERS, TRAUMA, CHILDHOOD TRAUMA, MENTAL ILLNESS ETC
It happened quite suddenly--a shift in the eyes, a change in posture, the way his lip stilled and hardened into a thin line. The door swung open, and Professor X bustled forward, assuming the helm while Charles crawled safely away into the quiet corners of his mind. Their mind.
"You couldn't leave him alone, could you?" The Professor huffed, gaze sharpening into a glare as he leaned forward in Charles' wheelchair. That's how it always went, wasn't it? Crossing lines and sidestepping boundaries until poor little Charles Xavier nearly drowned in his own anxiety. Thank fuck he had somebody else living inside his head.
"What do you want, Emily," the Professor snapped, opening his telepathic floodgates with ease. She was a tricky one, Charles' daughter-in-law. One of few living in the school with the infuriating ability to block his abilities. He hated that.
"I know you aren't stupid enough to intentionally call for me"

I don't know if this one is okay but just to tell you. Can I request a platonic headcannons for Trey, Leona, Jamil, and Sebek with a gn!reader that has Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID)? Basically, reader has a split personality that they developed due to growing up in an abusive home. The other personality is their younger self from the past and is afraid of their parents coming to get them, they see the boys as their guardian. While their other personality is their original one, the older self and the one you see in the present. How do the boys react when they see reader switching from the original to their younger personality where they cry and cling on them like a child begging them to take them away from their parents, then switches back to their original self who took note of the ke situation and apologized, explaining their condition to the boys.
You can ignore this if you find it difficult to write or you find it a sensitive topic :)

I know you’re probably not the person to ask for this, but idk where to start.
I’m so thankful for your golden afternoon AU because it sent me down a research spiral on DID (I think it’s kind of cool? I know it has its hardships, but I just have an overall interested and positive relationship/thought to it) and that turned out to be helpful because my best friend recently told me she’s being diagnosed with DID herself.
I know you linked some good blogs/channels with DID information, but I can’t remember them. Do you know any good people o can go to to help support my friend and help her figure this out? (At this point, I know more about DID than she does because she learnt it exists like. 2 days ago and doesn’t have regular internet access)
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to learn about this in the first place though
i'm glad i could be of any help in the first place!
unfortunately the channel where i learned most of my information from deleted most of their videos and quit youtube, which really sucks because their videos were easy to understand. the entropy system also has some decent videos though. They have a playlist called a "beginner's guide to DID" that will probably help with the basics.
my lovely friend who helped me with the golden afternoon AU's blog is here! they might be able to help your friend with where to get started and tips on how to help manage it. i suggest asking them how to deal with switching and dissociative amnesia, how to develop internal and external communication within the system over time (ex. writing in journals or calendars or sticky notes to remind other fronting alters about stuff), and what non-systems can do to help support your friend if something happens. my friend can talk a lot more about specifics, but i think those three topics would provide some foundation for how to organize their situation.
i know i have a couple other systems following me, so if they have any advice or just random tips that i would never think of, i will post all of them under the tag 'did advice'!
