I wish fandoms weren't so gross about twins.
It's not wrong to say twins tend to have particularly close relationships, they're literally born on the same day and are going through all their developmental milestones at the same time. For their early childhood, they are together pretty much 24/7 since you can't just leave a baby/toddler unsupervised to tend to the other one. So yeah, twins tend to have a uniqley close relationship. Actually theres some very intretsing studies about the psycology of twins and how they are raised and socalised comapred to other siblings that would be very intresting to explore through fanfics and such about a set of twin characters. But for some fuckass reason, creeps just INSIST on reading the relationship as romantic.
Hey, guess what? hugging your twin is not romantic, it's familial. Sharing a bed on holiday with your twin is not romantic, it's familial. Holding hands with your twin is not romantic, it's familial. Even kisses on the cheek, which is very normal amongst family in many cultures, is not romantic, it's familial. Affcetion amongst family is so normal (given said family isn't a toxic one), and when it comes to the unique closeness a lot of twins have, it's even more normal. OF COURSE the people who spent all their major childhood developmental years together, going through the same things at the same time, are going to be close. And it's just fucking disgusting how so many fandom spaces just cannot fathom familial bonds as just that. Familial. That they can't simply enjoy twins as twins, explore their unique family dynamic as twins without bringing incest into it.
The sexualiastion of twins is just so fucking gross. Seeing them as nothing just these clones of each other to have kinky threesomes with is fucking disgusting. Not just because of the incest part, but because it completley strips them of their individuality. Both twins, even identical ones, are an individual person. They may be uniqley close yes, but they are INDIVIDUAL people, not just clones of each other. And their sibling relationship should not ever be the subject of some freaks insestuous fantasy.
Twin on twin abuse does happen, twins can be in toxic co-depentant dynamics, these abusive situations DO occour. And they DO deserve to be talked about in factual and accurate ways, victims of twin on twin abuse deserve to have their stories heard and validated WITHOUT some freak jacking off to it. Twins desrve to see themselves in fiction without freaks shipping the characters that reflect their real relationships.
I'm not a twin, just the oldest sibling. And gods, the thought of people getting off to older-younger siblings is so fucking vile to me as it is, I can't imagine being a twin and seeing so much disgusting fetishy content around twin characters. I'd feel so voilated. I've been writing a book series for years now, and have a set of twin characters. And I've been doing literally everything in my power to make their relationship both accurate to a set of twins that went through something traumatic together and how it's affected them, without giving twincest fuckers anything to even remotley jack off too. Unfortunatly, given how fandoms treat twin characters already, I think they'd just do it anyway even if the twins hated eachother. And it's just so sad and gross.
TLDR: people are really fucking gross about twins and it's fucking sickening.
