The "Is it fair to say that you read the love letter and that this means yes?" prompt with Red, please?
Here we go! I hope you like this one :)
it was fun to write, and a bit different from what I was expecting.
The word count is 1221 and 6309 characters.
Red hated his life.
For a lot of reasons, if he's gotta be honest with you, though the one for this time, was because his friends hated him.
Okay, they might not hate him, yet he knew that they wanted him to do things that he just... wasn't ready for. Everyone, and I mean almost everyone, knew that he had a crush on the dumb little human, named Y/n. He had a feeling that the only person that didn't know about his crush, was them themselves. Edge liked to 'tease' and say that they did know, just they didn't care enough to act like they knew. What the fuck Edge?
Red already tried to tell them many times; getting them gifts, sitting with them and trying to say, or even running over hoping to get it out before the nerves could stop him.
Yeah, none of those worked.
Either they wouldn't connect the dots with him giving gifts, and he wouldn't be able to explain, or he would start saying something, and something would happen to stop him. Most of the time, it was his nerves causing him to stop. Just... seeing those beautiful eyes on him made him feel sick.
He wanted it to stop! He hated all of this shit. He was supposed to be strong, brave, the cooler older brother but he couldn't even handle telling someone he liked them. Who cares if they tell him no? Well... he did, to be honest. If they said no, then he would feel so awkward and he'd lose a friend.
He didn't have many of those.
Edge has told him to tell them more times than he could count, and each and every time he would lose the wind in his sails and Edge would sigh, shaking his head at him. Ugh, like he was so much better! He had a dumb crush on that stupid robot for fuck, who knows how long?
Not that he could bring that up, you know. Edge would kill him.
Today he was walking around, his hands stuffed in his pockets, muttering under his breath annoyed at himself. He was supposed to go to the store to get things that his brother told him to get, and he fell asleep. After they got above ground, they all figured out why Red fell asleep so often. Something that he couldn't control, they didn't say that they were sorry for how they treated him.
Mostly Edge.
Red didn't exactly care.
Edge told him to go and get to the store before it got too late, and to take the list. Red really didn't like going to the store, way too many people and he sometimes hated it whenever he had to talk to other people. He liked humans more than monsters, of course, though that doesn't mean that they're easier to deal with all the time.
Y/n was pretty great. They were a good human... he liked them.
If that wasn't fucking obvious by now.
He grumbles under his breath walking throughout the store, picking up things that he was told to get, his mind wandering.
That was until he got a call. It was from Toriel. Turning his head down, he squinted at the phone and answers it. "What do you want?"
"Aww, so mean to your old friend?" she laughs, "I'm hurt"
Red rolls his eye shine, and holds the phone against his shoulder, starting to fill a bag with apples. "Yeah yeah," he starts, "come on, just tell me. What are you messaging me for? I'm a little busy here" he was scared of her. She was a boss monster, she was strong and she was damn crazy.
She found him interesting though, and saved his ass more times than he would... like to admit. She only did it because she found him funny and liked his puns. They used to sit by the door and crack jokes at each other.
Now look at them.
"Oh you're no fun" She huffs softly, then giggles. Oh no. He did NOT like that sound so he looks at the phone again, squinting at it with the one eye socket that worked and listens to what she has to say "Okay okay, so you remember your little crush? On the human? I decided to do something for you! You know, since I am the best friend that you have. I left a note for them to find, and wrote like it was from you. They're going to know that you have a crush on them. Even asked them out on a date for you! Since you weren't going to do it, you silly goose."
His soul skips a beat in his chest.
She did what?
Without saying anything, he hangs up the phone, shoving it into his pocket and short cuts. He couldn't exactly do the same as Classic, his short cuts were more just him flash stepping, rather than teleporting. Did he forget to pay? Yes he did, he'll come back later or something.
When he got to Y/n's house, his eye shoots around, trying to find where Tori put the letter, mumbling under his breath "Stupid goat, what the fuck is she doing? I would be able to tell them when I want to tell them. Why do they care about my love life so much?"
She was just his pun buddy! Nothing else, damn it. Y/n was a... crush yes, just not his datemate. They weren't going to be either! How the hell did Tori think that she'd be good to do that?
He couldn't find the dumb letter. He looks at the house, worry sinking into his bones like ink and he gulps down nerves that he didn't expect himself to have.
Damn it, why was he so nervous? It was just a letter that... most likely explained all of his emotions and how he had a crush on them, and they could not feel the same and that would... that would suck and... wow he felt like he was going to be sick.
Shaking his head, he does a short cut into the house his glowing eye shine, scanning around. Okay, just grab the letter, then you can leave! Y/n won't ever have to know anything.
Nope.
The world was against him, seeing as though that he teleported like... literally right in front of them, making him jump back "Fuck! Don't do that!"
Y/n jolts, stepping backwards too looking at him with big eyes, then they laugh weakly "I mean... you were the one that just randomly appeared." then they hug him tightly, pressing a kiss against his boney cheek.
Oh shit he just got a kiss. His skull bursts into a bright red color, slowly hugging them back and mumbles "I-Is it fair to say that you read the love letter, and that this means yes?" he asked, sounding hopeful.
They giggle softly, nodding and nuzzle their nose against his cheek mumbling out a yes. Guess... Red needed to thank Tori for helping him out with that stuff. He was still going to kill her for doing that though. Red was happy that Y/n liked him back, if they didn't, he felt like he would have just dusted right then and there, and he doesn't want for that to happen.
Warnings: None other than potentially out of character Fell!Sans. I had to research properly to understand him.
Summary: An AU in which your soulmates first words to you and tattooed onto your body, only Y/N’s is something she hears often and Sans’s is something he expected to be from a human, something he hated.
Never had Sans thought that he would have a soulmate, He didn’t believe in the nonsense, either way it wasn’t like he was going to meet them unless they happened to be a monster in the underground but that couldn’t be true, he had met all the monsters in the underground.
Although he wouldn’t admit it, he was disappointed.
He had watched others find their soulmates whilst believing that he could never have one, despite the words that were engraved into the bone of his arm.
“Please don’t hurt me,” the tattoo read, something that made Sans assume that his soulmate was a human.
He wasn’t sure how long it was until they would meet, if ever, but he did want to meet them, even if he didn’t show it.
“Sans,” Papyrus’s voice pulled Sans from his thoughts, “what are you thinking about?” His voice was deep and cold, intimidating to most monsters he met.
“Nothing, Pap.” Sans’s own voice was deep, almost like a growl, most were intimidated by him also.
Papyrus gave his brother a weird look before nodding, letting Sans lie to him despite knowing that it was a lie. He did care for his brother and worry about him, but he didn’t want to potentially anger or upset him by quizzing him about how he was feeling and what he was thinking about.
“I’m going for a walk, I’ll be back soon.” Were Sans’s final words before he left the warmth of the house the two shared, stepping out into the cold air of Snowdin.
~
Cold wind blew through the air, the gusts hitting Sans’s jacket causing the fur hood to hit his skull. The snow crunched beneath his black trainers, some snowflakes attaching themselves to the bottom. His shorts did not do much to keep his bones covered from the harsh wind, had he had skin he would have had goosebumps, but luckily, he was unaffected by the cold weather which he was grateful for as he knew others wouldn’t be as lucky.
The walk towards the door where the skeleton would often practice knock-knock jokes was a boring and quiet one. His boney hands were stuffed in the pockets of his black fur jacket, the fabric causing a strange sensation beneath his fingers. It wasn’t until he was near the door that he spotted someone, or rather some human, closing it behind them.
“Who are you?” He snarled as he was in front of the Y/H/C-haired human, his unexpected presence making her flinch back in surprise.
“Please don’t hurt me,” her voice was soft and filled with fear.
Shock filled the short skeletons body upon hearing the words, the girl, however, seemed unaffected by his words. He remained silent.
“Are… you okay?” Both her face and voice showed genuine concern, something that he couldn’t bring himself to hate despite his ‘kill or be killed’ feeling that he stuck by.
Somehow, he couldn’t imagine hurting her, no matter how hard he tried.
Without thinking, he quickly moved to grip her arm, desperately searching for the words that he longed to read.
And there they were, written on her wrist were the words “Who are you?”. He assumed that she had realized what he was doing, gripping his own arm, something that sent electricity through both their bodies.
“Please don’t hurt me,” Y/N’s cheeks lit up at the words.
“You’re a skeleton,” she looked up at him, eyes wide yet pupils dilated. “I mean, I just met a goat, so I’m not surprised, but still…”
“I am. You’re a human.” The girl let out a soft hum at his words, releasing her grip on his arm.
The two fell into an awkward silence, Sans still having her arm in his hold, observing the word as he realized: he had found his soulmate, something he had never imagined happening; something he had never imagined would happen.
“What’s your name?” Y/N was the first to break the silence, a strand of her Y/H/C-hair covering her blushing face which she soon brushed away, tucking it behind her ear to prevent it from falling out of place again. “I can’t just call you my soulmate.” She joked, hoping to ease the tension that filled that air.
“Sans,” he introduced himself, holding out his hand for her to shake. Despite not liking contact, especially with a human, he felt that he should at least make the effort besides, it was as though something was pulling him towards her, some unknown force.
“Y/N,” she took his hand into her own, firmly shaking it before letting go, allowing her hand to fall back to her side, the same way Sans did. “nice to meet you, Sans.”
~
The following weeks were spent together.
Papyrus had originally wished to capture her and do something that Y/N herself could only imagine, however Sans rejected that which left the taller brother confused.
Doesn’t Sans hate humans? Was his main question, something he wished to ask him.
Both Sans and Y/N were seated on the couch, watching some show with a robot.
There was a comfortable silence being shared between the pair, something common between them. Neither of them minded, of course, in fact they enjoyed it; they managed to enjoy each other’s company, even if they weren’t talking much, or at all as a matter of fact. They had clicked, something neither of them had expected.
Sans’s initial cold and serious behaviour soon warmed up as he grew attached to the human that happened to be his soulmate. He didn’t entirely like how his ‘kill or be killed’ motto had faltered with her, but he couldn’t help it, he knew that, but that doesn’t mean he had to like it.
“Sans,” Y/N’s sweet voice tore him from his thoughts about his sudden change in behaviour, “why didn’t you kill me?”
Sans appeared visibly shocked at the question, cursing her in his head for asking the question he had been praying that she wouldn’t.
“I mean, you’ve fought every other human. Why not me? Did something stop you?” The questions continued falling from her lips, and his thoughts raced with how he could either answer her or shut her up so that he didn’t have to answer her, and that was when he thought of an idea of how to silence the girl.
His hand lightly gripped her shoulder, watching as she gave him a confused look. Sans almost faltered, before remembering what question he would have to answer if he didn’t do it. He leaned forward, pressing his teeth against her lips in a short kiss, one that left her blushing wildly.
“S-Sans…?” She whispered, blush darkening at the look he was giving her.
“Does that answer ya?” His voice was deep, something that Y/N found extremely attractive.
“I guess,” she giggled, laying herself on Sans’s lap, something he gladly accepted despite his conscience yelling at him not to.
He knew he would grow to love her, but he also knew that he wouldn’t care; he met his soulmate, that’s all that mattered.
