You can grow veg all year around if you choose the right varieties. I’m going to sow these broad beans (de Monica) this month in a pot. This variety you can sow between October and December. Not only you can have fresh pesticide free veg that does not come in plastic bags, you can control how big you want to grow your broad beans. You may remember a few months ago we posted a video of a little school in rural Matabeleland, Zimbabwe. Here is the follow up to that... 😊🌱💦 Despite the current turmoil in Zimbabwe, a little story is unfolding that truly warms my heart. This once forgotten school has started a community garden project. Just 4 months ago we helped install a solar powered pump and water storage tank close to the school. The community came together, and have turned the once fallow grounds into a thriving chomolia field, with plans to plant maize this time next month. They have big plans to expand even further than this! Thanks once again to everyone who contributed to this worthy cause. Know that you have made an incredible difference to the lives of people living in this area, and know that they are incredibly grateful for it. It's seed starting season! This Spring we are testing out peas grown in a pot on a handmade trellis, spinach, bunching onions and oodles of herbs. Last year's experiment of balcony brussells sprouts didn't pan out too well, so we might have to leave the vegetable growing up to the farmers at the farmers market this year. That's okay. Baby tomatoes on a tomato! When you grow your own, to me size and shape don't really matter. I would be quite excited to even see an amazing food grown from seeds that you nurtured. But in the supermarket you don't have that feelings and end up choosing the most uniform packs of food. If we had more info how the food is grown and how long it takes and how hard it is to grow them (and how bad or wasteful it is for the environment to create such uniform packs of perfect food in a plastic bag), then may be more people will realise and accept ugly food and help environment and reduce waste more naturally? #uglyveg #uglyfood #tomato #vegetablegrowing #sustainable #organic #knowyourfood #growyourown #growyourownfood
