It depends on how much he is in control and how much he wants someone dead. 

If he’s in control, it could go either way. If he’s needling someone, provoking them into a slip-up or simply gloating, he’ll start with insults. If he’s got an objective and someone is in his way, he’ll simply stab them and move on without wasting words. 

If he’s the one being provoked and his insecurities are prodded, he’ll generally fire back a few insults to try and save face before attempting to fight. This is also to buy time and size up the situation/find an exit before he gets into a fight he might not win. His mouth gets him into and out of a lot of trouble.

He generally gets excited by watching violence, and by inflicting it. Any time he’s not directly overwhelmed, he finds violence pretty thrilling. He even likes watching Megatron fight, when they’re on the same side. It gives him a feeling of power, as does his own violence, and that feeling is like a drug to him.

Some displays of violence have the opposite effect though, and are actually triggering to him, making him viscerally afraid. Being powerless is the worst feeling in the world to him, and he’ll do just about anything to avoid that feeling. Obviously violence directed at him by huge mechs has this effect, while violence from opponents closer to his own size does not (on the ground, not in the air - in the air he doesn’t care). Much larger mecha even standing up or gesturing suddenly can cause him to flinch away. Sometimes, but not often, a fight he’s not even in can make him feel afraid, if the two people’s strengths are vastly different and someone is getting totally overwhelmed. He does not enjoy this budding empathy for underdogs or the reasoning behind feeling that way.
