wanda is perfectly capable of flying btw
first of all: this is just me venting because I'm tired of this shit happening every day in every possible fandom. I'm not trying to pick any fights or whatever.
I always find it funny how shippers of straight ships get so upset when we ship a character with someone else; WandaNat, Stucky, SamBucky, etc.
They almost immediately create this narrative that we must hate one of the characters in the canon ship, which, in most cases, couldn’t be further from the truth.
I don’t even dislike straight or canon ships (most of them, at least), because they don’t affect what I enjoy or who I choose to ship. Canon doesn’t dictate my personal taste.
For example, I have nothing against WinterWidow. I think they’re genuinely cute, and it would have been interesting to see the MCU actually develop them — especially compared to that random and poorly executed Natasha/Bruce storyline.
I love Bucky with my whole heart; he’s one of my favorite characters in both the comics and the MCU. He and Natasha just aren’t my ship of the heart, and that’s okay.
The same thing applies to other straight ships. Take SteveNat, for instance. I don’t hate it, but SteveNat shippers are often incredibly hostile toward any alternative pairing involving either Steve or Natasha, which makes discussion exhausting.
Simply shipping Natasha with someone else — especially another woman — is treated like a personal attack, when it really isn’t. Me shipping WandaNat doesn’t mean I despise Steve Rogers, or that I think Natasha never cared about him. It just means I prefer a different dynamic.
I also don’t feel particularly strongly one way or another about Tony/Nat, for example, and yet, Tony is one of my favorite characters.
I don’t ship them, but I don’t dislike them either. They exist in that neutral space for me. And that’s something a lot of people seem to struggle with: not shipping something doesn’t automatically equal hating it.
On the flip side, just because I ship wlw or mlm pairings doesn’t mean I ship every possible combination. I don’t ship Tony/Bucky, and I don’t ship Natasha/Agatha, for example. They just don't click at all for me.
Liking queer ships doesn’t mean I’m obligated to like all of them, just like liking straight ships doesn’t mean you like every straight pairing. Taste is still a thing.
And honestly, this kind of infighting isn’t exclusive to straight vs. queer ships — it exists within wlw and mlm spaces too.
AgathaRio shippers constantly attack Wagatha or WandaRio shippers, as if only one interpretation is allowed to exist.
The same happens in mlm fandoms: Stucky shippers are always clashing with Stony, for example, turning what should be fun headcanons into pointless wars.
At the end of the day, shipping is supposed to be about personal enjoyment. It’s not a moral stance, and it’s not an attack on other characters, ships, or fans.
Loving one dynamic doesn’t mean hating another — it just means that, for whatever reason, that particular ship speaks to you more.
anyway, I don't even know if I'm making any sense anymore. I'm tired, with too much coffee on my system and whatever.
