Hey, I just watched Wicked Part 2 and now I can’t stop thinking about Fiyero as the Scarecrow. If the spell can’t be reversed and he can’t be hurt or die, what happens to him after Elphaba is gone? He’d just keep living forever without her. That thought honestly makes me so sad. Does anyone else feel this way?
That's actually part of the tragedy. It's never clear what it means. Apparently he's biologically immortal, but he could burn to death, and that's his only weakness. Canon doesn't give us more information (and the book leaves it open if Fiyero is indeed the Scarecrow or not), so that's where fanfiction comes in. It's almost universally accepted that Fiyero goes back to being human somehow, it's just the how that is debated. Most times we agree that either Morrible lied that the spells were irreversible to stop Elphaba from trying to reverse the Monkeys, or that she's not knowledgeable enough about the Grimmerie, as she herself admitted; or even that she was telling the truth (for once) but unaware that there's even greater magic than the Grimmerie beyond Oz.
So anyway, he's biologically immortal, can't age, but can die through external causes (seemingly only fire). If Elphaba were to die, if he so desired, he could just jump into a fireplace and be with her. But fanon says he doesn't stay as a Scarecrow, and that's where fanfiction comes. I myself have written my own take on it here and in a few posts on my blog (just search for fiyerocrow and/or headcanons on my blog search bar).

He becomes even more tyranical after your dissapperance, so when you come back with a child at first he is frozen with the fear of you having moved on with your life without him, having found someone else that could give you what he couldn't. Quickly he decides that he needs you back by his side amd that Dorothy could be like the daughter he always wished he had, a mighty heir for Oz. He will try to sway you back to stay with him, will treat Dorothy like his own child, will offer you Oz in a silver plate if that's what it takes for you to choose him.

Elphaba has a difficult time believing you'd love her after being othered her whole life. Finally she has something good in her life, someone who cares, someone who loves her as she is.
In the beggining she doesn't think she is worthy of your love, this belief worsens upon sending you back to Kansas accidentally. When she fully embraces her Wicked Witch of the West alias, she'd decide to finally be selfish for this one thing: Having you back in Oz, you being by her side, like it was always meant to be.
When she sees you again, with a little girl by your side, she's even more devastated, believing you'd gone on with your life without her. But quickly decides she'll have you back by her side once she unveils the fraud that is the Wizard. In her interactions with Dorothy she won't be as harsh, not wanting the child to fear her. She'd also watch over the two of you, waiting for the perfect moment to fly in and whisk you away so the two of you can talk, so she can explain everything. Would 100% fake her death and dissappear with you and Dorothy to Kansas or some place in Oz where she could truly be free and loved by your side.
If it came to it, she could be convinced to share you with either Fiyero ( if she fell for him) and end up dissappearing with the two of you along Dorothy or with Glinda, after both reach the conclusion that if they truly want to keep you safe from the Wizard and Morrible, they need to work together. The would definitely pull a stunt so Oz believes Elphie dead but she lives with Glinda, Dorothy and You.
All in all she just wants to feel your love openly and be able to reciprocate it tenfold.

If it comes to it, Galinda is open to share you but only with Elphaba.
At first when she saw that Fiyero showed romantic interest for you she imagined a way that the three of you could get married. Perhaps she and Fiyero could marry and you could come live with them in their palace? Or you and Fiyero married and she joined you as a good bestfriend would— but she quickly found out that thought— you marrying Fiyero, belonging to someone else in Oz's eyes— displeased her greatly. Galinda will battle against her internalized homophobia and what she has always thought will be her happy ending ( Having magic, marrying a rich prince, having status...) at Shiz as she gets to know you better. She will have to accept that her feelings are far from platonic and if she really truly wants to have a chance, she will have to start by accepting she also likes girls.
On the other hand, I think she would be open to share you with Elphaba because the both of them grow very close and is this friendship that helps Glinda accept her feelings for you as what they are. Also, she sees that Elphaba does truly love you, and as Elphie's bestfriend, when she sees how happy you make Elphaba, she decides that if her happy ending should have another member it must be Elphaba.
Yan! Glinda & Yan! Elphie's plan as you come back to Oz, might entail working as a team to get you to stay with them, as the three sorceress supreme of Oz.

Fiyero has never expected to truly fall for someone. He believes that no one truly wants him as much as they want the idea of him— prince of winkie contry, hearthrob extraordinaire. When he starts feeling the smallest thing he usually runs away until he can forget, just as much as he tries to run of his responsabilities as heir to the throne of Winkie country. So when he meets you, who sees him as just Fiyero and he's uncapable of putting distance between the two of you, when you act real with him and talk to him like he is a person and not an expectation, he cannot help but want to keep you to only himself. To pick you up and run far into the sunset, wherever the wind takes you, with zero expectations and responsabilities on his shoulders, where he can freely spend his life loving you like you derseve, being himself and living adventures by your side.
As the Scarecrow, his feelings remain the same although he no longer has the expectations of prince on his shoulders, he still wants to follow you wherever you lead him. Would take Dorothy as his daughter from the get go, and he cannot help but wish to return to Kansas with you and Dorothy, live a happy, calm life with you on the Farm, as you two raise Dorothy together is his dream.
If he does develop feelings for Elphaba as well, he would be open to share you with her, because Fiyero loves you both and sees how Elphaba's happiness is being able to be by your side.

Only with Boq. Nessa's romantic interest for you comes way before she meets Boq and he asks her to the Ozdust — She wished you had asked her but won't complain that a cute munchkin boy asked her, and it's only upon her developing feelings for how attentive and sweet Boq is with her, that she starts toying with the idea of being with the only two people who have truly made her feel accepted, happy and most of all, who have made her feel normal.
She also sees how Boq looks at you and remembers how he was the munchkin boy you danced with before her when you came to Munchkinland. She also sees how Boq looks at Glinda when he thinks she's not looking, the possesive side of her believes that if she agrees to share you with Boq, he will stay with Nessa and with time, truly fall for her and want to stay by her side forever. Nessa also cannot fanthom a future where you aren't part of her life, you become way too important to her both as a friend who truly sees her beyond her chair and as a potential romantic partner while at Shiz. Both her heart and mind break when you dissapear— making her become the Wicked Witch of the East as a result.
ʙᴏQ ᴡᴏᴏᴅꜱᴍᴀɴ | ✔ | ✘
In the beggining Boq dreams of being able to be with you, keeping the bow you gave to him close to his heart always. He dreams of a future where you see him as someone worthy of you, of your love. He becomes too shy around you, making him stumble on his words but at the same time, only when he's around you he truly feels at home. His dream is marrying you and living a quiet life in a farm with you in Munchkinland.
When he gets into Shiz and meets Galinda, he cannot help but fall a bit for the façade she plays for everyone, and when he understands how Galinda looks at you the same way he does... He fantasizes a future where he gets to be with the two of you. A future where he can become someone important, deserving of having both you and Glinda by his side.
As Boq he would practically do anything to be able to be with you, even staying under Nessa's thumb the rest of his life if that means he can love you openly, but as the Tin Man, Boq experiencies a full transformation. His love becomes more agressive, his self image is destroyed and believes himself an unlovable monster, who's only after revenge.
TinBoq would NOT share you with anyone. He feels like he's lost enough in this lifetime so he thinks his selfishness is understandable. At first he is incredibly envious of whoever Dorothy's father is, but as he gets to know the small child he grows a soft spot for her and instintively acts like a father would around her. Boq had always wished for a big family with you in his quiet idilyc farm dreams, but upon his transformation, he knows he will be unable to give you children. Heck, he believes it impossible that you could love such a monster like him, but as he slowly breaks, he doesn't care anymore. He knows you'd love him because you're Good. His dreams about a quiet farm life with you come back full force, only this time Dorothy is there and the two of you raise her together in a home full of love and understanding. He is also open to adopt a kid or two if you'd like.

Elphaba
Acts like she hates it but clearly loves having soil under her nails. She mutters spells over the tomato plants when she thinks no one is watching.
Pretends not to care about the baby goats, but gets up in the night to check on them.
Braids Feldspur's hair when she's stressed out. She is the only one Feldspur will allow to do this.
She talks to the chickens when she thinks no one is listening. Fiyero has heard entire monologues about moral philosophy and the failings of the monarchy directed at a hen named Gertrude.
Random Things
Fiyero insists on dressing the scarecrow in his old, ridiculous Shiz jacket “so it looks respectable.”
Glinda once caught him propping it up straighter and said, “Darling, if it gets any more charming, I’m going to worry you’ve replaced yourself.” He looked genuinely offended.
Fiyero always has dirt smudged across his cheek that Elphaba pretends not to notice before wiping off.
Glinda leaves them little notes around the farm--chores, reminders, just sweet sentiments--but one of the goats (Duchess Petunia) loves eating the pastel post its, so half of them disappear within a day
Elphaba insists on doing all the sweeping because she doesn't trust either of them with a broom. Ditto on the cooking.
Fiyero insists they all dance in the kitchen after the chores are done, no matter how tired everyone is.
Okay, this is the third and final piece of my thoughts on how the WoZ works within WFG's narrative and in some ways clears up so much of the plot holes in the sequence leading up to For Good.

This is where I talk about the climax of how both WoZ and WFG could intersect as well as the potential headcanons.
So first and foremost, I want to address the whole joke of Dorothy being trapped in that room while Glinda and Elphaba sing For Good. I personally think that's not the case because of the potential narrative of the Fav Five's final battle. I personally think that Fiyero (Scarecrow), Boq (Tin Man) and the Lion all manage to sneak into Kiamo Ko and for this version there's no Green-faced Guards, only Monkeys. Here, there could be a callback to when Fiyero distracted the Gale Force during the hunt for Elphaba immediately after Thank Goodness, and later when he sent them to fetch water. Fiyero easily persuades Boq and the Lion to take different routes to find Dorothy, given that there are passageways in Kiamo Ko and the Monkeys chase them. In the meantime, Fiyero (who probably knows the entire layout of Kiamo Ko) maybe heads to a secret room and gets Chistery's attention and here is where he tears off a piece of his jacket, and instead of a note telling Elphaba he's alive, he draws a little indicator of what trapdoor she can use to fake her death.
This little detail is of course dependent on one thing that could fit in the narrative- I personally feel that during NGD in the space where Elphaba goes into her past, there's a period of a day just to have her entrenched in her grief. I think Chistery would do Elphaba a favour and have a fellow Monkey go to check on Fiyero and at that point, he's rescued the gang from the poppies. He passes a note and Elphaba reads it at the same time as say MOTWH is happening in the Emerald City and at that point, she thinks it's a cruel joke or a trap which then makes her decide to kidnap Dorothy. Which is why when she later sees the cloth as evidence, she remembers the note from earlier and decides to take a leap of faith.
So by the time Fiyero has written the note, he catches up with Boq and the Lion and they free Dorothy as depicted in the 1939 movie where there's another door on the side compared to the top door where Elphaba was yelling at Dorothy and Boq chops it down.
So now.... You're probably wondering how are the plot holes surrounding the melting alleviated in the sequence that we see?
Because.... It's all from Glinda's point of view.
Pay attention to the moment where we see Elphaba yelling at Dorothy in the trapdoor- it's exactly from where Glinda is standing when she speaks to Elphaba. We are always in that space from that moment onwards, until the very tail end of Glinda's speech before we head back to Kiamo Ko to unveil Elphaba's surprise appearance- we see the melting from Glinda's pov in the closet, we are treated to the For Good sequence as a full circle moment to the Ozdust ballroom sequence, which in fact, also took place from Elphaba's point of view.
If the For Good sequence was similar to the Defying Gravity sequence where we saw the action in between Elphaba and Glinda's scenes such as the Monkeys chasing the girls, the hot air balloon sequence, the Guards tearing down the door; we'd see little clues of the core gang trying to escape Kiamo Ko but being chased by the Monkeys and Fiyero utilizes his "brainlessness" by secretly and directly leading them towards Elphaba. We would see Elphaba, once she moved away from the closet, prepare herself for her "death" by draping her cloak over the open trapdoor and levitating over it so that when she melts, she's levitating below the open space and using smoke effects with her magic disillusions the gang while she shuts the door leaving her hat and the bottle above. We'd also get glimpses of the others behind Dorothy since there is straw, Monkey feathers and a propaganda poster with a map that belonged to Dorothy in the puddle as seen in the opening scene whereas in the film, in Glinda's eyeline, there's no reference to the gang besides Dorothy via shadows in that scene.
With regards to the melting, if we were to accept the take that it's Glinda's pov, the reason why it plays like a horror movie with Dorothy as the killer and Elphaba swishing her cape as defiance is because it's Glinda having tunnel vision and how she's processing what she's about to witness. When in reality, it's Elphaba burning Fiyero, Dorothy running to get the bucket and dousing him, Elphaba stealthily lighting her cape and Dorothy in a moment of safety, spills the rest of the water onto the cape and hitting Elphaba as well, in a nod to the melting as depicted in the Wicked novel.
With regards to why Glinda easily believes that Elphaba has melted, i think it's to highlight the theme of propaganda vs reality and how it affects Glinda. She's forced to bear the knowledge of being trapped into what was real and fake about Elphaba; I know people say that she'd probably have seen Elphaba shower or being around water at Shiz but again she's questioning everything. That compounded with the fact of Elphaba pleading her to never clear her name, is enough to have her be haunted with it for the rest of her life. I could be wrong about this and feel free to let me know your thoughts on this.
So that's how I think they could have filled in the gaps happening in that climax and nods to the WoZ as well.
I'd like to conclude with one small WoZ Easter egg because I think for now I've really said my piece on how the WoZ narrative took place within WFG's narrative, unless any of you would like me to answer anything else- I might do a timeline post where I break down the potential timeframe of WFG starting from the 12-tide turns to the ending.
So one clever thing that the writers have done with Wicked was reference the 1939 film's plot beats, quotes, iconography but not directly within the part where the Wizard of Oz took place (except for the inciting points- Dorothy's entry into Oz, the gang meeting the Wizard, and then at the end where Dorothy tries to hitch a ride with the Wizard). These include the various WoZ canon-based actors body language (Boq and Fiyero), the salon in the Emerald City, the lion cub in the basket, music references in the score. If they were to add another moment (if time permitted), and based on the BTS pic where Fiyercrow is on Feldspur, I would have loved to see Fiyero before he left back for Kiamo Ko and Oz itself, say goodbye to Feldspur where he said, "I think I'll miss you most of all."
