🙌What's a line or paragraph of yours that you're proud of?

I got a comment on one of my old Teen Wolf fics and have to admit I liked these lines:

Perhaps this is some sort of entertainment for wolves, toying with their prey. Well, Stiles will not flap about like a broken-winged bird for Derek’s amusement. But, for more recent fics, this line from a Winterhawkhood fic cracks me up: “You can’t promise someone sexual favors for getting unbrainwashed,” Jason says, sounding remarkably scandalized for someone who probably just lost his virginity in a serial killer threesome.

This is an older bind, but I have two books in transit as gifts so I can’t talk about those 😂, so we’ll have to make do with something a little less recent.

This was my first attempt at binding a shorter story. My writing isn’t particularly long under normal circumstances, but this story is just shy of 12k words, so binding it on my normal A4 paper wasn’t gonna work.

So I bound it on A5 instead! (I had to learn how to make my printer duplex A5, which, by the way, it WILL NOT DO, so I had to hand feed the pages to print on the back. Don’t ask how frustrating this was, just know that it made me want to scream). I also had to figure out how to impose it on a smaller folio, which was its own special kind of weird because it kept cutting off parts of the page.

And then I measured the endpapers wrong 🤦🏼‍♀️

Nevertheless, I persevered.

I bound this one with black Amazon brand bookcloth (which is surprisingly nice!), and the endpapers are an Indian marble ‘Plumes’ in gold/silver/raspberry from Hollander’s. The art pieces are all from Etsy, and I foiled the images on the cardstock with my Cricut using their transfer foil kit. The title on the cover is textured bronze permanent vinyl, I think it was Cricut brand but I can’t be sure.

In the original iteration (which I gave to @claraxbarton), I foiled art on vellum sheets instead of the black shimmer cardstock, but I wasn’t smart enough to take photos!

This one turned out nice overall, and I like the size of it in my hand, considering how short it is.

The twang has all but disappeared, replaced by something warm and husky that immediately brings tousled sheets and bare skin to mind. His shirt is sticking to him like a second skin, revealing peaked nipples and abs that are borderline obscene.

  Jason freezes halfway off the barstool, the toes of his right foot barely on the ground.

  Clint hooks his chin over James’ shoulder and looks Jason over even more thoroughly – and the first glance hadn’t been anything like careless. He hums as his eyes drag over where the wool of Jason’s pants has stretched tightly over his thighs. His hands creep around James’ waist, settle on his hips. He tilts his head a little, still evaluating Jason - for what, he doesn’t know.

  “Oh,” he says, a handful of seconds later, sounding delighted. Like he’s discovered a secret. “This is the guy.”

Book No. 12

The wonderful @there-must-be-a-lock is running a fanworks-of-fanworks event right now, and I was lucky enough for @kangofu-cb to let me bind her fic Third Wheel as my entry. This is the fic that got me shipping Winterhawkhood, and I'm just inordinantly fond of it, so I was delighted to get a chance to play with it for a moment.

At 10k, it's just the right length for a little quarto binding. It's also a very hot fic about threesomes and roleplay, which makes it a lot of fun to read, but a little bit tricky to design a cover for. I played with a few ideas before settling on this very simple three-line motif, in chameleonic HTV, which wraps around the whole book. It's my first time trying a bigger design like this, and I'm not mad about the result.

What I am a little mad about is messing up the HTV on one of the copies; up until this point, this was the nicer copy and was going to go to the author, but this relegated it to my copy.

The main difference between the two copies is the inside title pages. My printer coped poorly with the bold line motif, so I went over it with metallic paint, and there's a slight variation in the silvers I used, as well as how neat I managed to be (I used a ruler and everything, I'm just clumsy. A lesson learned).

They also have slightly different colours on the covers. It's really hard to capture in a photo, but they both change colour depending on the angle they're held at, blue-to-purple or blue-to-green. (Obligatory pic of the books being prepped for pressing because it makes me laugh every time.)

The point of the fanworks-of-fanworks event is to show appreciation for creators of fanworks, just as they do for the source material(s) that inspire their fics and art, their playlists and podfics and fanvids and cosplays. I think it's a beautiful idea for an event, and I hope this little book shows some of the love I have for this fic, and the wider fandom community.
