[11:59 pm] “The population of New York City is almost 9 million. Add all the other people who traveled here, we’re looking at god knows how many.” You rambled helplessly, teeth chattering at how cold you were. “We’re never gonna find them.” You looked down defeated at your dead phone brushing off the snow that dusted it.
You and Jungwoo planned on meeting your boyfriend Winwin and his friends at a café near where the New year’s ball was supposed to drop, but you underestimated just how packed the streets would be. Of course your phone would betray you and die at the most inopportune time; all the while Jungwoo forgot his at the hotel.
You thought it was stupid how upset you were about the whole ordeal, but you haven’t seen Winwin in almost a year and hyped yourself up fantasizing about the perfect new year’s kiss.
Picking up your dampened mood, Jungwoo sighed while grabbing your padded shoulders, pushing you farther down the street. “Maybe next year.” He said apologetically. You nodded, watching the timer count down from thirty seconds. Understandably less interested, you looked around at all the couples surrounding you, happily smiling and counting down. Looking past them you spotted a familiar face frantically looking around. Your eyes widened, jaw dropping at the disbelief. You met eyes with Winwin as the timer quickly descended. Smiling he pushed past the bodies that stood in the way.
“Oh thank god.” He sighed, breathless. Before you could get a word in, as the timer turned zero and confetti shot out into the air; lips pressed on yours, a cold hand holding your cheek while he held your body close to his.
You stayed pressed together well past the cheering, reveling in being in each other’s arms.
