Hey so I know we All Know This but I will NEVER be over a character being feverish and delirious and making No sense. I will never be over a glittery-eyed, shivering, distressed character weakly gripping another's arm and asking them questions they don't know the answer to, and probably don't mean anything at all. I will never be over characters calling out for people either long gone or right next to them, but unrecognizable in their delirium. I will never be over a character crying in frustration and fear over something in their head they can't explain to whoever is helping them, and all they can do in return is stroke their hair and shush them gently.

i think when representing trauma and PTSD in media we should explore hallucinations more. not the ones where they imagine talking to the person of their trauma because usually that’s written unrealistically but for example:

auditory hallucinations like small sounds, voices that both seem unreal and real, etc. but also tactile ones. touches, skin crawling, all that crap. the feeling of someone being right there in the room with you is also something that i’d like to see represented more because it can be written sooo well. and last but not least the classic flashes compared to the constant hallucinations. the flash of a shadow or a figure or a face that’s gone before you can truly grasp it ykwim

I love the trope, just as much as anyone, of the Caretaker being shocked by Whumpee's ingrained behaviors. Saying something and realizing just how bad it was by Whumpee's reaction.

But what if Caretaker just gently corrects the behavior?

They don't even verbalize it.

Whumpee kneels in an argument- Caretaker gently pulls on their hands so they stand again.

The moment passes.

Whumpee cowers when they break a plate- Caretaker quietly gets them a new one and cleans up the shards.

Whumpee removes their shirt and their torso is hatched with scars-and Caretaker looks at them all the same.

And it's a relief. Everyone treats Whumpee like a fragile glass thing ever since they came back.

With Caretaker they can at least, sometimes, feel normal.

you can pull recovery whump tropes/cliches from my cold dead hands. every time a caretaker waits at a distance for whumpee to touch them first, only to have that moment be when they fall asleep on their shoulder and they are DESPERATE to be chill and cool and not freaking out theyre so not brimming with excitement over this- an angel gets its wings

i love a character who is already traumatized before the main whump narrative of the story takes place. they've experienced abuse, or they were attacked before. they experienced a natural disaster or some other kind of profound trauma. they're already fucked up. maybe they were abused so young that there never was a 'before' version of themselves to mourn.

and then the main whump story happens. and they go into it already carrying pain, trauma, ptsd even. maybe it's the same person retraumatizing them. maybe it's entirely unrelated. maybe it's environmental or accidental. but either way, they come into it already carrying those wounds, and then come out the other end with so many more.

Character who is functioning on auto pilot after something traumatic happened. Maybe they were banished. Maybe they were kicked out of their house/team. Maybe they had to flee.

They do what needs to be done, arrive in a new city, find a job, get a place to stay.

The second they reach their new room and sit down on their bed, it's all too much. Character just... mentally checks out.

They don't know how long they've been sitting there, but nothing registers as time passes by. Not the light from outside moving through their room, not the noises from the city streets below. No hunger or thirst. They just sit there, empty.

It's not until the room has gone dark and the city went silent that they suddenly snap back to themselves with a gasp.

What just happened?

Whumpee's hair being pushed away from their face or tucked behind their ear as they sleep after the Bad Event.

They aren't conscious, this is more for Caretaker. A small comfort to their friend. They've done everything else that they can and are just still looking for little things to make Whumpee more comfy, even if they aren't aware of it.

concept: someone walks in on whumpee being assaulted and for a second whumpee is so relieved, theyre going to stop whumper and the nightmare will be over, but the person who walked in thought they just walked in on consensual sex, so they just turn bright red, blurt out an embarrassed apology, and leave asap, and whumpee watches their only chance at help leave...

oh god that’s compelling. i love both an interrupted assault and someone who’s genuinely a caring person mistaking signs of assault for the aftermath of consensual sex. combining them like that, having the rape interrupted in progress but the person who’s walked in doesn’t know what they’ve seen and just apologizes and quickly leaves… fuck that’s brutal. whumpee is frozen or too afraid to call for help or too surprised or whumper talks first, a loud annoyed “do you mind?”

and later if this person learns about what was happening. what they interrupted. what they could have stopped. the pain and guilt of that failure… whumpee having this burst of anger they know is unreasonable but they can’t help it. and then they hate themself for it too. because they just. they thought it was over. they thought they would be saved. but it didn’t stop. they were left alone with a whumper who then grinned down at them and started again, rougher than before, like they’re even more confident and self satisfied now that they weren’t stopped.
