one of the more minor annoying things about the subnautica 2 weaponry/violence discourse that i'm aware is largely just me making uncharitable predictions because I'm grumpy is that like. i bet in the next couple years somebody will make a similar game that *does* have more violence to capitalize on demand, but it'll be persistently way less popular for reasons that aren't just about it being from a less well-known company, and won't even have much to do with its quality. the biggest reason will just be because the loudest fraction of critics seems to be the contrarians who intentionally exaggerate their negative responses for views, attention, and making liberals mad, so they lack actual good faith interest in seeing their complaints addressed anyway. meanwhile any quieter critic not in that camp will simply not really care as much by the time this happens, because they were never invested in being super mad, just somewhat disappointed. and all in all it's gonna end up making that whole contingent of people just look annoyingly ungrateful and unserious. kinda like how shitloads of people complain about pokemon but then usually don't actually bother playing any alternative monster-catcher games, so most indie competitors remain way less popular than it no matter how much people claim they want to see competition. (I add "making liberals mad" because I notice that a lot of the pro-combat side also looks slanted towards centrist and right-wing types who "don't want games to be political" and tend to mock and ignore most of the game's more left-leaning messaging and themes)
