TW: self harm
Reading The Poppy War, I’m only about a third of the way through it, but it’s sort of refreshing to have a main character (especially a female main character) who doesn’t have what I call warm morals. She doesn’t lead with a guiding light that you see with most FMC’s. Her eyes aren’t suddenly opened to the “real” bad guy. She isn’t the standard for heroic.
She loves her nation. She is loyal to them. She refers to the federalists as not even being human. She mutilates herself to stay on track. The entire time there’s this undertone of “is she on the right side?” That you as the reader ask yourself, but Rin doesn’t. She’s power hungry, she’s brutal, desperate, and I love her wholeheartedly.
I was rambling on the issue of museums and human remains and how certain populations are more likely to have their bodies put on display to be gawked at and then went "well I guess the Pompeii casts were of Europeans. there are bones in there right?" and Googled it to make sure, at which point I confirmed that yes there are bones in there, but more interestingly DNA testing revealed that a cast of an adult holding a child everyone assumed was a mother and child were, in fact, a man and a kid entirely unrelated to him. Honestly that's more moving to me. Maybe they were connected in a way other than blood, but maybe a stranger saw a child when the world was ending and thought the one thing he could do was hold them.
Can we please appreciate Odysseus being a silent stalker in the shadows, taking out suitors with his bow, not deigning to speak to them as he takes them out one by one
until some of them go "we have to strike him in the darkness too! we know the halls of this palace! the odds can be tilted!"
and Odysseus, built this palace with his very hands, has to step out of the shadows like "are you this fucking stupid"
It's actually funny how humans decided "fuck living in caves with all these creepy crawlies", got out of caves, built houses that have all the nice parts of a cave without any of the yucky parts, and then all the little bugs and spiders and other creepy crawly creatures that used to also live in caves thought "sweet, new and improved caves" and moved right back in with us.
“You made it,Captain.”
I know I’m really late to the game on this but the part in epic when Poseidon says “any last words” and Odysseus says “all I gotta do is open this bag” and then the “what.” Is literally so funny to me.
Also adding in to this: Odysseus felt every second of those twenty years. He felt every moment he was away from his wife and son. He suffered immensely with his only goal being to get back to them. So there is something extremely poetic in the way he says “How time has flown” the second he gets his son in his arms again.

What did people even do after the calamity. Especially like with the castle. Did they just make a mental note like “oh there’s some kind of evil sentient force awake inside the castle” it makes soooo much sense that they kinda just let it be for 100 years.
How am I supposed to walk the shores of far off fantasy realms when my feet are firmly planted in cutesy, small towns with a holiday themed name. How am I to grip my sword when Mayor Kringleton needs me to join the town holiday championship where I’m inexplicably going to fall in love with the town grinch.
In the middle of Blade Breaker and like…. Erida is evil evil, isn’t she? I kept waiting for a moment where she’s like “psych I’m actually on the good guys side” but I’m beginning to think that’s never going to come.
Okay she’s officially passed that threshold of ever being able to redeem herself……. Definitely evil for sure

I just finished reading Realm Breaker and instead of the usual “I hope they end up together” or the “I just want to see that man get hit one time” hopes that people often find themselves anticipating for a sequel, I have but one hope.
I have one single wish for Blade Breaker.
That wish is that we get to see Hell Mel’s face when she sees the first wanted poster.
I want to see Mother Hell Mel’s face when she looks into the sweet, soft, inky likeness of the daughter she left cocooned on the docks back home.
Will it be pride? Fury? A bit of both?
I picture it happening in slow motion with that one classical song in the background while the crew members reactions vary between fear (of the captain) pride (for Corayne) and pure unadulterated joy (they think it’s funny the captain had a mini her despite their best efforts)
Everyone’s says “Wow, Kaz really fumbled the bag with the ‘I protect my investments’” like Inej didn’t mean a lot to him or something. But I feel like everyone is failing to remember that he cares the most about his investments!! Am I the only one that ever took that as him admitting how much she means to him? Think of the lengths he has gone through to secure his investments/assets?? And everyone’s just like “wow that guys a dick”???????
Oh! Yes, absolutely!
I found this post and I think it summarizes your thoughts well.

God I love the crescent city boys and how much they love each other
It’s very LOTR boys in the way they cry and hug and laugh together and I live for it.
Six of Crows: The Musical
Just....
Think about it.
No why do I LOVE THIS. I picture Kaz refusing to break into song until eventually he’s by himself and breaks into a cute little ballad about how much he loves Inej
