Introducing Violet Rotterdam: scholar, 'socialite', ex-criminal, current criminal, and all-around challenging person to get along with.

She may be intensely unstable, but she keeps her friends close. Interests include researching the Correspondance, discussing the Correspondance, composing symphonies attempting to convey the Correspondance, crime for profit, and violence for catharsis. Full(er) bio under the break.

After a brief, rocky, and ultimately violently unsuccessful stint as a Surface bank robber, Violet Rotterdam traveled to the Neath to avoid a stay in a Surface prison, and still isn't happy with how that turned out. Free, with a fresh start and a new name, Violet determined to reinvent herself in any way that doesn't involve any introspection. She would describe herself as "an independent academic" or "a scholarly dilletante" if asked in polite company, and as "somebody who gets the job done" if asked among a rough crowd. She splits her time between cultivating an image of a respectable lady, engaging in crime that can no longer be called petty by even the most generous of standards, inadvisable/unhealthy/life-threating coping skills, and pursuing her true passion: poking about in the dangerous and unknowable, particularly the Correspondance.

Violet's upper-class persona and polite mannerisms have largely failed to maintain her image, given her behavior. While the criminal activity and illicit archeology are largely under the radar, the occasional bouts of public violence and/or graffiti-induced madness have kept her on the fringes of society, working desperately for the resources and connections she needs to try to get to the bottom of all this....everything....going on down in the Neath.

Violet currently works as a journalist for a minor paper, which has finally given her an excuse for all the prying questions she likes to ask. She lives in "riverside property" with an ever-expanding menagerie of animal companions, and is desperate for a respectable friendship with somebody who showers regularly, though she's certainly in no place to judge.

Prospective new acquaintances are encouraged to make contact through any of the usual channels. Violet Rotterdam is the in-game name as well.

uh.... huh.... see on the one hand, i want to be excited about the interpersonal interactions being more complex than the ones in stardew valley

on the other hand... well i heard the same stuff about mask of the rose, and that games relationships sucked ass. fool me once, etc

this might not be a FBG problem, and might just be from this one PC Gamer writer, but i remember reading similar articles about MotR and how it was different (read: better, less shallow) than other visual novels, and it just gives this impression that they're not making these games out of a love for the genre, but out of disdain for it. like im supposed to hear this and go "finally! a farming sim thats PLAYABLE!!!"

but i like farming sims??? that's why i would buy the game at all. why are you trying to pitch your product to me on the grounds that everything i already like is shit??

anyway. its still early yet and im still intetested in Mandrake, but this article is giving me a lot of MotR flashbacks. i had been hoping during THAT whole hype cycle that FBG would tell me even one visual novel/dating sim they liked, but they never did, only telling me how theirs was not like the other girls or whatever. hoping at some point in the leadup to Mandrake, they'll reassure me they've played even one other farming sim and arent basing their assessment of the genre just on how they reckon it works (like they did with dating sims)
