Miroku asks Mukotsu if he was resurrected by Naraku. Mukotsu says he doesn't know. He should ask his brothers about that sort of thing.
Mukotsu proves to be a surprisingly tough foe. His poison is strong enough to damage Hiraikotsu. He assumes he's taken care of Miroku, Sango and Kirara and turns his attention back to Kagome.
Meanwhile, Shippou is still searching for Inuyasha. He decides to leave a trail of acorns for him. One of them bonks him on the head just as he catches Jakotsu's scent. He realises that something must have happened at the village.
Back at the village, Mukotsu isn't taking any chances. He's dragged Kagome into a hut and surrounded it with a smokescreen of poisonous gas. He's not exactly subtle about what he's planning. He remarks that he's not popular with women because of his face (like many of Takahashi's villains, he has more than a little of the incel about him)
Kagome still manages to keep a level head despite her increasingly desperate situation. She notices the Shikon fragment in Mukotsu's neck and wishes she had a weapon.
Unsurprisingly, it turns out that the others survived Mukotsu's poison gas. Sango uses her own knowledge of poisons to figure out the best angle of attack.
Mukotsu tries to rape Kagome, only for her to stab him in the neck with the tongs. Unfortunately, she misses his Shikon fragment.
This drives Mukotsu into a rage. He bursts into tears and punches her in the face. He then accuses her of mocking him because of his looks. Kagome, on the other hand, thinks it's his actions that are the real problem. His complex about his face is an excuse rather than a true justification for his behaviour.
Sango and company take the opportunity to make a well-timed dramatic entrance through the roof. Kagome tells them to aim for the fragment in Mukotsu's neck.
Mukotsu suddenly remembers his job - stealing their Shikon fragments. Sango charges him, only to be felled by the poison. This one enters through the eyes and skin. He's certainly well-prepared.
Mukotsu himself turns out to have a very high poison tolerance. Presumably, this was built up from years of working with poisons. (Although according to Takahashi, he's only 33)
He takes out Kirara by spitting poison at her. Miroku tries to protect Kagome but the poison's already paralysed him. Mukotsu shoves him aside. He grabs Kagome by the hair and tries to strangle her to death.
Suddenly, something takes Mukotsu down from behind. Sango wonders if it's Inuyasha. Not quite. Their unlikely rescuer turns out to be... Sesshoumaru?

god I’m so fucking angry at the state of uk politics . Obviously we all know about the bullshit Supreme Court ruling around transgender people being excluded from public life, directly violating the equality act being legally classed as their birth sex, but they also just overturned protections for intellectually disabled people and people in severe mental health crises.
Previously, if someone was deemed not mentally capable of deciding their own care, there was a lot of oversight to ensure they were being treated ok. The Supreme Court just got rid of that. Unless someone actively protests their treatment, they’re presumed to be consenting to it (even if they are regularly physically restrained or chemically sedated). For deprivation of liberty to exist, the conditions must be literally as bad as a prison cell, and (according to Mind) it’s implied in the ruling that it’s because people with profound intellectual disabilities do not have capacity to experience liberty (or deprivation thereof). Genuinely sickening.
Further context: Durham city council (Reform UK) cut funding and support for Pride. The Durham Miner's Association and other trade unions raised enough money for Durham Pride 2026 to go ahead - a direct call back to when Lesbian and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) raised money for mining communities when Margaret Thatcher seized union funding during the miner strikes of 1984-85.
At the 1985 Labour party meet, the motion to support LGBT rights as a party was passed due to a block vote from mining unions.
Stephen Guy, the chair of the Durham Miners’ Association, said that when it became apparent Durham Pride was under threat, he took it upon himself to “encourage the trade union movement to step up and do the right thing, and stand shoulder to shoulder with the LGBT+ community […] They not only raised funds for us, but came to our communities, uplifted our spirits when they were down, and showed their solidarity.”
obviously i'm not surprised by it, but the fact that people are buying farage's bullshit about "two-tier policing" over henry nowak's death is so frustrating. like this is the man who, after sarah everard was brutally murdered by a serving police officer he insisted that people should not blame or be angry at men or the police. now there's a death that fits his racist narrative he's obviously pouncing on it and inciting racist riots in southampton.
it's so frustrating watching this lot foam at the mouth when pal action protestors get brutalised and arrested for holding cardboard signs, or call women brutalised by police at a vigil 'crisis actors', and celebrate the torture of political prisoners in the UK who have been held for over 2 years without trial, suddenly pretend to give a shit about police brutality. it's even more frustrating watching people lap it up.
it's particularly egregious because nowak's family has asked for his death not to be politicised and not to cause division. and this mob of white supremacist fucks have descended on the town to the very street where it happened.
