there's probably a better way of wording the last part but like come on it doesn't matter if we're all the same to fascists
No I genuinely don't think there's any better wording of the last part
the cure is to kiss your cat on the top of their head
I can confirm this works
i love making friends in fandom, i love playing with our toys together, i love coming up with increasingly niche aus, i love lifting strangers up, i love motivating people to create, i love watching someone get excited over an idea and immediately running with it, i love yelling in tags together, i love seeing someone gain confidence in their writing/art because people were kind to them <33
you ever mess something up and go "this is it, this is my final mistake. they're going to take me away and that's it, it'll all be over. this is my complete worst mistake and this is it for me"
theyre saying i might have anxiety
"what if someone regrets transitioning" if you are 18 or over in free country usa you can walk into any tattoo parlor and ask for a tattoo that will be on your body forever and ever and ever and they will give it to you with the understanding that if you dont like the result or you regret it later that's your fucking problem and not theirs
"I'm looking respectfully" well can you look at me like you're dying of a fever. like you're delirious and it hurts. like you're fighting desperately for your life.
she cries if I dont hold her, so I have to use my exercise bike like this
Here’s the thing. Refusing to accept a compliment can be mildly insulting to the person you’re refusing the compliment from.
It’s like you don’t believe them or don’t respect their opinion basically.
I know, I also have self esteem so low that accepting a compliment feels physically painful but basically calling the person who’s complimenting you a liar doesn’t help anybody including yourself.
Danku lesbiennes!
why is it that whenever there’s a conversation about the casual sexual harassment that most women have faced in their everyday lives at some time or another, someone pipes us to say “well I don’t get harassed because I’m ugly and I have feelings about that.” girl, what do you want us to say to that? I’ve been catcalled plenty and I’ve also been called ugly plenty, and the catcalling has never made me feel less ugly. I’ve never thought “oh well at least someone desires me” when I’m alone on a dark street and a strange man yells something sexual at me. and at the end of the day I really think you might be thinking about yourself too much if you hear other women talking about being either verbally harassed or touched without their consent and start to wonder why it hasn’t happened to you. It’s so far from the point and in fact it actively creates division among women over a topic we should be united over. Harassment is bad and shouldn’t happen, end of story. Why are we quibbling about what their harassment (or lack thereof) says about us?
“I don’t care if men benefit from feminism, they shouldn’t have to benefit from feminism to support it” okay, but they do, though. everyone benefits from feminism. you don’t live in a hypothetical, you live in the real world where feminism has real material benefits for the men in your life. so are you gonna take that in stride and move forward, or are you gonna keep pitching a fit that feminism not being Girls Only™️ means it’s tainted.
I've known a number of non binary people in my life and I think single biggest conclusion I can draw from that is that non binary people are not the same. Like if Men fit in box A and women fit in box B, people really, really want nonbinary people to fit in a theoretical box C, and it just doesn't work like that. They are outside the boxes. They defy any simple categorization because they are not a third way of being, but every other possible way of being.
Being supportive of binary people is relatively simple, they have decided to sort themselves into one of the boxes that we have lots of experience interacting with. Being supportive of nonbinary people can be comparatively tricky, because you have to resist the urge to create box C and drop them all there. That's how we end up with various prejudices like "woman lite". Humans really, really like to categorize things. It helps us think. Unfortunately, sometimes it helps us think wrong.
If you have a non binary person in your life, I think it is important to take the extra effort to learn about them specifically.
Bioessentialism will have people saying stuff like "all amabs are dangerous and violent, and all afabs are incapable of harm and pure" and gender essentialism will have people saying "all trans feminine people and trans women are incapable of harm and pure, and all trans masculine people and trans men are dangerous and violent"
And I keep seeing them used as reactions to each other. You get away from one and fall into the other.
"hey, before you interact, tell me what category of humans you think are inherently evil and disgusting and that we should exterminate to live all peacefully and safely? :)" <- this is how it sounds.
I am not joking when I say the death of nuance is the death of us.
#(cups hands) and also its racist as all fuck#bioessentialism is inextricable from racism#'there is an inherently violent and dangerous type of human' dovetails real neatly into 'black and brown people are dangerous savages'#to which trans poc are especially vulnerable

man sometimes friendship really is just "I saw this and knew it would give you psychic damage. please respond with agony" and then they do. and it's great
Good news: if you’re currently laying around and not producing anything, you are a credit to your species.
It’s recently been found that even hive insects rest. Bees will play with colorful toys. Ants sleep for about 1 minute but they do it so frequently it amounts to a few hours per day. Even trees take breaks.
The only things that work without rest are machines; literally everything that lives requires rest.
EVERYTHING THAT LIVES REQUIRES REST. STOP JUDGING YOURSELF FOR NOT BEING A ROBOT.
robots require very frequent breaks! welding machines generally have it programmed in that they can’t run so long they melt themselves. ive overseen two different manufacturing robots now and each of them were fragile, finicky idiots that require constant maintenance and repair. they pause in between moves, in between jobs. you’re always keeping an eye on programming errors, on coolant levels, on heat. you’re always pulling bits of scrap out of joints, sweeping up debris, washing off nozzles and untangling hoses. and even then it snaps a chain and takes a whole morning’s vacation.
even robots need downtime.
for the record im not technially 100% anti-AI, in the sense that its a broad category of tech being lumped under one umbrella term so it feels over-zealous to say i hate all of it all the time forever. but i also think trying to discuss what it actually IS good for is difficult right now when i cant take one step without something trying to convince me to use chatgpt to summarize my life and speed up my hobbies and turn my friends into chatbots and optimize my life into oblivion. i am certain there is nuance to the topic but can we stop cramming the square peg into the round hole before you start trying to sell me on the legitimate benefits of the square peg. please.
Neural Nets have existed for decades and are genuinely useful. It's a form of AI that recognizes patterns, and can do stuff like identify cancer cells, tell whether an egg is fertilized or not, detect fraud, and optimize routes.
Those are Expert Systems, tuned to do exactly one thing. If you (say) ask a medical expert system a question about financial law, it's useless. The autopilot that flies a 787 has no idea how to drive a truck on the freeway. A Coulter Counter is excellent at identifying lymphocytes in a blood sample but can't predict the next card in a blackjack game.
And so on.
The problem with so-called generalized AI (AGI) is that we don't have that yet. It doesn't exist. It MIGHT some day, but AGI has been "10 years away" since the 1980s. The goals keep moving as we learn more about how people and machines process data.
But the current crop of AI techbros have been selling generative Large Language Model AI (LLM) as AGI because generative systems do a good job of faking it. There's no actual thought going on, merely the illusion of thought via predicting the next word in a sentence accurately.
If you let a human toddler listen to 800 hours of YouTube car influencer videos, that toddler might end up sounding like a car influencer. They'd parrot horsepower numbers and 0 to 60 times, mention EV range and MSRP numbers.
But they wouldn't understand any of it.
That's ChatGPT.
And yeah, it's worse than useless because it doesn't even know when it's lying or hallucinating. It just babbles convincingly until you stop it.
But for techbros to make money selling that as "AI"? It's the perfect scam, especially if you don't understand how it works.
I fucking hate it.
