End of the first update!! hope you enjoy it so far! as i've mentioned before for the time being, pareidolia will update every friday.
as you can see tbh this is less of a traditional webcomic format and more of a graphic novel situation. the prose is written the way it is kind of intentionally, you'll see how things proceed, hehe.
For a while I had this silly but fun idea of creating silhouettes with paint splashes which I then visualize into alien creatures by using my central processing organ also called a brain, and some gravity magic. This was my first attempt today. Thinking about making this a weekly challenge.
What do you think? :)
this also really helps me in giving the ecosystems of our (many) alien homeworlds some life without endlessly pondering on their looks. I also decided to turn the thoughts looming in my mind down into a sort of log entry commander Eight would draw/write into a digital sketchbook.
i wish there was an animal that could see radio waves so I could transmit that i love them and every one on earth would know it
i would randomly broadcast the growling of their natural predator so theyre freaked the fuck out all the time
who the fuck are you
A lil Western Interior Seaway scene!!! Nyctosaurus and Pteranodon flapping around the sea cliffs while a mama and baby Albertonectes hunt fish in the shallows
working out some perfectly regular dogs
how this week has felt
Me at all fantasy RPGs:
So my idea for the Baleens is that, humans are observing them, but really, really trying hard to not be noticed or disturb them in any way.
Unfortunately they aren't always successful in not being noticed by the locals despite their best efforts.
And some more fun Baleen random facts: Baleens can get drunk! They will take certain local plants and ferment them, usually a plant similar to kelp. Generally it's saved for special occasions, due to the time and effort it takes to make the drinks.

Updated canihyir sexes chart. The Zitiwau ethnic group is pictured here.
Overall canihyir have four sexes and five genders. Queens are females who undergo a sex change later in life and provide the family with children. Queens are larger than every other sex and have longer feathers on the neck. Females are the main workers of the clan and often form a council lead by the queen. In most cultures a member of the council is picked to be queen once the current one gets too old or passes away. Bright males are the only sex that reproduce with the queen. They are usually not expected to work and are required to look fancy and pretty for their queen. Dull males either work in the family or are brood fathers. Brood fathers are a different gender expression and activity nurse the queens tick like larvae with their blood until pupation. Brood fathers and females often raise children together after pupation.

Sketches of two ocs i've been slowly figuring out since like,, last year. Meet Krystyna and Sunny (placeholder names)
Krystyna is a colonist who crash landed on the Sunflower homeworld while delivering supplies to a newly established colony. She recovers thanks to a family of Sunflowers that found her. When it became clear that she is trying to communicate, that family brought her to Sunny, the town scholar/priest (im not sure yet). Sunny teaches Krystyna their written language and together they slowly learn to communicate while becoming friends.
"Sunny" is not their real name, they have a two-tone whistle name. It can't be pronounced by Krystyna, so she gave them a nickname. Sunny gave her a nickname too, she's called "Small Sky Person" by them... and everyone in town.
In canon they can't communicate verbally, the sounds they use to communicate can't be recreated by one another. I'm still not sure what other method they should use to talk, I'm considering creating a shared sign language, using ASL or PJM, or just making them write letters to each other. So until I figure it out, they are granted a magic power of language comprehension. lmao
Aponax ligdleri, the white headed evildoer
The apex of the food chain of the Sinedean temperate foam plains, these large predators are tenacious cursorial hunters of large, often armored, prey. Their diet includes herbivorous lantalids, hermetids, and other species, as well as predators and omnivores. Their enormous heads, equipped with powerful beaked jaws and sharp, crushing teeth, allow them to butcher a wide variety of prey. Their teeth grow throughout their lives, so during periods of less successful hunts, they must wear down their teeth on foreign objects such as trees or rocks. As members of the pulmonopod (arm-breathers)group, they possess a middle pair of limbs adapted into expansions the anterior pair of lungs, giving them greater endurance during pursuits. Their long legs with shock-absorbing toes, combined with their developed lungs and a long, rigid, tail-like abdomen, allow them to actively pursue prey and then tear it apart with their powerful jaws. Their seemingly short neck can extend to more than five times its relaxed length. Their killing method varies depending on the prey, but most often, these predators attack the neck or thoracic brain chamber.
Individuals live in solitarity and hunt during the day, meeting each other only during the breeding season.
Individuals are aided in their search for a mate by their developed olfactory cheek pads, located at the corners of the mouth. This multifunctional sensory tissue once served only to muscularly support the jaw, but over time, the olfactory organs migrated to the surface of the cheek tissue. Thanks to the highly humid atmosphere and the flapping motion of these organs, evildoers detect odors and other chemical information, including mating pheromones. At the end of evildoers abdomen, you can see a fluffy red tuft—this is their pheromonal bush, localized, stiff, hair-like filaments that become soaked with odorous secretions during the breeding season to find mates. Their specialized vocalizations also aid in this process; the anatomy of their respiratory midlimbs allows them to contract their lungs very rapidly, giving their calls a "popping" or pulsating sound. After a short period of incubation, mothers dig a small, semi-vertical nest (burrow), usually near tall tree trunks or rocks. Females possess a long ovipositor, which they use to lay about a dozen eggs at the very bottom of the burrow. They then carefully guard the nest with their young for several weeks, bringing them food. The young quickly emerge from the nest, within about a month. They stay together and hunt small prey and parasites for approximately two to three years. They reach sexual maturity at approximately five years of age and live to be around 20 years old.
Some further Randau worldbuilding. Will be expanding Juturnian nature and Randau social interactions too.
Breaking out of my longass streak of inactivity to bring you: Centaur in minecraft. Minecraft centaur alien player model. that I made.

Rather odd question, but are there any sort of color or pattern "rules" with birgs? I know that sopme populations have their own internal rules (Twowi are bluish with a white blaze, some were dark with white spots, some had specific beard and mustache patterns) but what are some sort of wide reaching rules? What's the color palette range, are their any distinct or often shared markings?
Birgs vary quite a lot by ethnicity, but there are some commonalities across broad regions. For example, in populations endemic to the southern hemisphere (bottom 3 rows), you will find that dark patches around the chelicerae, eyes, and spiracles are common; virtually the opposite of the white facial markings found in most north hemisphere populations. Note also the greenish color present in some southerners, it is a natural pigment found in hyperborean fauna but rarely seen in birgs north of the equator. Twowic peoples are sort of oddballs not just for their blue-ish integument but that their patterns can also be distinctly asymmetrical. For your convenience, I mocked up this chart showing some sample body color/pattern combos by ethnic group. These are by no means the full spread of birg diversity, and there’s plenty of mixing and matching of traits in areas where different populations meet, but this should give the gist of it.
