can we kill the idea that yawning=bored because there's a million reasons to be yawning and being condescendingly asked "oh im sorry are we boring you?" because of something you can't control is really rude.
you're not boring me this is a side effect of my medication but thank you for deciding that my yawns are some sort of insult toward you and going on the offensive i loved it 👍
It took until I was in medical training for me to learn that yawning is a symptom of chronic asthma, especially in kids. My martial arts teacher used to get after me constantly for yawning in class despite my protests that I wasn't bored or tired.
I wasn't being an asshole kid. My brain was not getting enough oxygen and was sending my lungs gulp-in-big-breaths-of-air signals to compensate.
I have never forgiven the habit of gym teachers to get on kids for this since learning that. I have actually started speaking up when I hear someone doing so because it is actually genuinely critical to recognize that yawning during exercise is a sign of chronic asthma and not typically a sign of boredom.
