this disability pride month I’d like to spread the gospel of the shower chair. I’m not disabled but my father is, and when I first started visiting him from out of town I’d move his chair in and out of the tub as I showered until one day I said fuck it and kept it in.

And oh my god.

If you’re a person who needs a 1000°F shower, get a chair. Get a chair and let yourself sit in the sauna. It’s amazing.

Look I don't think Supergirl (2026) is secretly a perfect masterpiece or anything (I personally thought it was like. a 6/10 fun time) but I do think it's wild that Tumblr isn't going crazy for it because this Kara is one coattailed suit away from being a Tumblr sexyman. she is the flawed messy female character people have supposedly been clamouring for. she's the popular archetype of a gruff self-destructive alcoholic middle-aged man begrudgingly having to look after a kid and growing fond of them but genderswapped and also 23. she's allowed to be visibly messy and kind of gross and her hair is constantly all over the place and she literally cries, screams, throws up, and pisses onscreen. she's caustic and mean and puts up an act of carelessness but has a heart of gold. she's heavily traumatised and coping with it terribly. if anything happens to her dog she will kill everyone in this room and then herself. she spends most of the movie in a trench coat and baggy band T-shirt. she gets into bar brawls and breaks a guy's hand. she is Going Through It 24/7 and looks the part. she stabs a guy in the throat. how is everyone else not obsessed with her.

Brief, spoiler-y thoughts below!

Best scenes in the movie, IMO, are the Argo flashbacks. Closest to the source material of the original comic, and really emotionally affecting. I love that they kept those sequences in Kryptonian (Kryptonese? One is spoken, one is read, and I can never remember which is which XD) as it really helps establish that this was a place that had its own people, its own culture, and it was all lost.

CANNOT BELIEVE WE HAVE DOME CITY OF ARGO ON THE BIG SCREEN. THAT'S RAD.

As a big fan of Woman of Tomorrow, do I wish they had used more of the beautiful visuals from the book? Admittedly yes. Personally I think it's more accurate to say this movie is inspired by the book, not necessarily a faithful adaptation.

That said! My main concern going in was the relationship between Kara and Ruthye, like. You gotta nail that for the story to work.

And I think they did! Great casting and acting. Milly Alcock and Eve Ridley are phenomenal.

Lobo is. Fine. XD

As a Supergirl fan I give the movie a 9/10; as a Woman of Tomorrow fan I give it a 7.95/10.

There is one objectively bad thing about the film and it is the final needle drop. Ruins an otherwise brilliant scene.

BONUS DISCUSSION I HAD WITH MY BUDDY, WHO DOES NOT READ COMICS:

supergirl was good. i was scared of the reviews but it was good. kara is different from clark in some major ways. where superman makes you feel hope for the person you can one day be, supergirl lets you sit with and honour the hurt that led you to where you are. where superman shows how saving people from other's mistakes is a noble task, supergirl shows that sometimes saving one person from their own pain and putting them on a path you wish you could've taken is enough. where superman says "be kind and be good" supergirl says "the world hasn't been kind to you, so you don't always have to be kind back. but you still have to try and be good."

ok this one is my completely full of spoilers review for supergirl now and little parts that i loved about the movie

it was interesting how they changed the way that kara got to earth. its interesting how clark IS older than kara and god jor-el is just like that what the hell, thank god clark is the way he is, thank you ma and pa kent.

although there is a lot of angst that comes with kara being older than clark and not being able to do the last thing that her parents sent her to do, it is heartbreaking and kind of worst that she had to see her planet decay around her, she actually had to go through her people dying a slow and painful death around her and thinking her whole life that she was able to live on and she was safe in argo city actually really upset me

also kara calling clark a nerd KILLED ME god i love their relationship because god he is a nerd

i like how brutal this movie really is, it really paints a picture of how brutal kara's life feels. from the cuts from her drinking to the way ruthyes family die immediately sets to tone for what is to come. its all messy, brutal, and it really shows how angry kara is at the universe. one thing i also love is how kara can fight without her powers, sure shes not as strong and doesnt have laser eyes or x ray vision but she can hold her own against absolutely massive threats WITHOUT her powers and its incredible to see. it shows how much of a warrior she is and how she has a huge upperhand when it comes to combat. the way she brute strengths it through being injected with kryptonite and being poisoned is literally INSANE.

i loved the scene that showed kara living in metropolis and being above it all and not feeling apart of it. it showed that she tried but it wasn't the right time

honestly, i love how angry kara was, period. the anger she felt made her feel so real.

omg i loved that kara finished krem off as soon as ruthye walked away. because it showed that kara isnt like clark and that was absolutely perefect because while kara didn't want ruthye to become her, kara is still kara and she has so much on her already, he almost took the one thing from krypton that she couldn't live without. it really shows that kara already carries so much on her and killing krem really shows that she is messy and petty and angry and its so amazing to see. and honestly, i would've done the same not only because he deserved it.

small clark sidebar (mostly just me being fucking insane about clark but ITS NOT ABOUT HIM BECAUSE FUCK CLARK IM HERE FOR KARA)

ok i will say i was gripping my thighs and wrapped my hands so tightly wiht my sweater when he popped on screen because im so fucking gone for him it's insane. like he was so fucking awkard and yes, kara, a nerd especially the way he was trying to get kara to bond and stay in metropolis with him. unfortunely, my little sister did say that wichu and i act like kara and clark and i cannot disagree. god his face card did NOT decline and i could feel my entire body pulsing ok horny rant OVER

i loved the way that clark was pushing kara to come back to earth but in a clark way you know? i also love that she has keys to his apartment because of course he gave her keys. the last interaction between them really shows that they really haven't spent much time together probably because it remind kara of how she really is the last kryeptonian. it is awkward, krypto is absolutely destroying clark's pantry, they really don't have anything to talk about but you can see that they want to make it work and be able to talk to the only other person who could truly understand

im not really good with explaining my feelings for movies but i really really enjoyed watching the movie and cannot wait to watch it again in like 3 weeks with wichu
