Day 112: Harbor Seals 🦭 (Phoca Vitulina) . . . Saturday, the seals swimming in the warming Atlantic waters off the coast of Long Island were bopping their marble heads through the surface of the sea 🌊🦭 I imagine they are looking for undisturbed beaches, silent hideaways, dusty sandbars, or blue lagoons, crystal clear bays, in rocky headlands where they have their own open space during the low tides of the Atlantic to sleep 🛌 , rest 💤 , give birth, nourish young, and mate. Day 54: Alley Cat (Street Lions 🦁) . . . . . Feeling really good about posting on Instagram this week. At the end of the day I try to care little what each of you thinks about my Instagram because there’s millions of other creators and accounts you could look at, but there’s only one The Honey Seals 🍯🦭 on Instagram. I find myself watching videos and looking at pictures or reading what someone who isn’t me wrote, recorded, or captured with their efforts and taking every bit of it in while usually thinking “Damn, this is impressive I wish I could have done this - I mean I can make this - I’d just have to try like them.” This honestly bothers me because I feel a strong connection with other people who are creating things. There’s a lot of people that are out there putting there heart and soul into their work and do it everyday with little recognition which is so inspiring. It’s not completely clear to me what it would take to set me or this page apart from the billions of other people who are making awesome stuff everyday but I have some ideas in store. 🎥 I’m constantly thinking about the future and the way this Instagram page can take me places. Day 53: 🐈 Street Cats 🐈‍⬛ . . . . . Witnessed this tough looking Street Cat roaming through the streets of Manhattan and tried to make him look like a tough city cat 🌃🐈‍⬛ Surprisingly, there were two of these feral, street cats in the snowy, salty, dirty streets. . . . Day 47: Sleeping Blue Jay (Cyanocitta Cristata Cristata) . . . . . The mean reputation that blue jays have sort of vanished in my opinion after seeing this one sleeping so peacefully and relaxed. Day 37: Hairy Woodpecker (Leuconotopicus Villosus) . . . . . Pretty similar to the colors of the other bird I saw earlier this year, I was surprised to see another woodpecker. It might be that species in the caption or a Downy Woodpecker (Picoides Pubescens) which are pretty similar besides a small size and slight differences. I don’t know how we have a science for this determining the slightest differences in a species to classify it differently. It’s interesting. I am also amazed that these birds follow around its larger distant cousin the Pileated Woodpecker and actually looks out for the sounds of the trees 🪵 being opened to scavenge after any of the left over grubs or insects in the new openings. I’m amazed that they would follow each other around and share nests despite major differences in their sizes. I learned quite a lot about the behaviors of different species through reading online and I’m blown away by how many other species exist. Day 36: Super Gull Sunday . . . . . Posting the first video on this page of this seagull eating some fish by using gravity, dropping it on a rocky shoreline. I’ve never seen this before honestly and it was interesting to think they’re smart enough to kill a fish about 1/3 it’s size. Why am I posting seagulls? Better to admire the world around you than to ignore it as it slips past. Day 35: Ring-Billed Gull (Larus Delawarensis) . . . . . Acrobats of the air, ring-billed gulls are usually found near parking lots, beaches, fields, garbage dumps, and freshwater these birds are considered a nuisance by most people. I can appreciate how they’ve flourished around humans. Some of the Ring-billed Gull species have been known to have a small percentage of two-female couples, meaning one obliging Daddy seagull has two female spouses laying clutches of eggs of up to 5-7 gulls. The more you know! I haven’t been able to post everyday this week because the snow has slowed me down- limiting where I can really go but I can’t thank anyone enough for all of the support and hype around The Honey Seals this year. I’m trying to schedule my posts ahead of time, with unique pictures and insightful captions.. Day 34: February (Black History Month) . . . . . Our country is not possible without Black History. Day 32: Blue Jay (Cyanocitta Cristata Cristata) . . . . . Although a common sight in North America, the Blue Jay was always the kind of bird that I would run to the window to see it walk around on our deck. I grew up around an Apple Orchard called Blue Jay Orchard’s and always liked the way the crests on their head look like a Mohawk. Blue Jays are part of the Corvid family of birds. The brain to body weight of corvids 🦅🐦 are equivalent to that of the great apes 🦍🦧 and cetaceans 🐳 🐋. Blue Jays are intelligent enough to mimic human speech as well as 🐈🐈‍⬛ and 🐕🐶. Day 31: Felim (The Human) . . . . . Looking for seals. 🦭 I added a 10$ fundraiser to this post for the next 30 days until March 2nd. At my current rate I would need to plant about 295 trees each month to reach Ten Thousand Trees by the end of Twenty Twenty Three. To plant 295 trees is about 295$ and to simplify the numbers, it would be 300$ a month for the next 34 months. At this rate, next year The Honey Seals theoretically would be responsible for planting 3600 trees. By this time in 2023, The Honey Seals would then be responsible for planting 7200 trees and with ten months remaining to reach the final 2800 trees for the Ten Thousand Tree challenge. Now I have no idea if I’ll ever be able to do this. I’m not going to spend any of my money on it either. This is for you people on Instagram. It’s your planet 🌎. You get to make choices after you see something. You swiped through and if you read this I’d be surprised if you don’t remember @thehoneyseals or what they were talking about on that One Instagram Post. To make even one dollar that can be donated to plant a tree will be an extremely difficult thing to do.
