Me: *agonizing over whether a semicolon goes here, what the proper dialogue should be there, other assorted rules and semantics*
Terry Pratchett: "!" said the stranger.
THAT'S ALLOWED?
Writing is for communication. Sir Terry knew very well that anything's allowed if it helps you communicate something effectively.

I feel like each successive adaptation of The Addams Family is edging closer and closer to making jokes about how Gomez hates his wife.
I have this overwhelming sense that there's only one family dynamic these writers understand, and at this point only sheer inertia is stopping them from diving straight to the logical endpoint of making Gomez a Shlubby Sitcom Dad Who Hates His Wife. It's coming.

DOCTOR WHO • LISTEN
Okay, here's the things I liked in this adaptation:
Eva Green
Bisexual Porthos
The general characterisation of Aramis. He's quite different from his book equivalent, but the changes are pretty coherent. The way his hypocrisy and the duality of his character are explored is very interesting... and his smug attitude is pretty spot on
The way some of the fight scenes were filmed (though after a while it got pretty repetitive)
The things I honestly don't know what to think about:
First of all, the casting choice for Athos. I can tell that they just wanted Vincent Cassel in the movie for popularity reasons, and it's breaking my immersion a little. But at the same time the idea of an older Athos does make sense narratively... so my feelings remain very mixed
Also, literally the most INSANE use of the Wilhelm scream that I've ever heard. I mean, by now the gimmick has been so overused that directors only still use it when they want to make it VERY clear that they are absolutely unserious about whatever it is that they're doing... so I guess they were trying to add some comedy, given that the movie already had a very serious tone that didn’t really manage to convey the humour in Dumas' writing style... but still, what the hell
In general, every intervention of the king gives me similar vibes. I think whatever they were trying to do with this character kinda fell flat
And the things I didn't like :
I'm gonna be honest, pretty much everything else… I don’t understand why they had to try and add plotlines to a story that is already more than complex enough, and I didn’t really like how most of the characters were written. In spite of all, I will have to watch part 2 though, I haven’t seen enough of Milady of Winter yet
Old sketch i finished at night recently
just made a tincture with 12g of flower and i genuinely believe the one of these days i will make this earth's version of the pangalactic gargle blaster
I actually have a recipe for pangalactic gargle blaster that I've always been too afraid to try... it also does look like it would put you in a coma
Why is Athos introducing himself with his full name. That's, like, his biggest secret, not to mention a major plot point. And why is he saying it like Athos is just his first name. The more I watch the less it makes sense, aarghh
Okay, I'm trying to watch the 2023 adaptation of The Three Musketeers and I keep having to pause the movie every two minutes to facepalm. Every storytelling choice that was made is so puzzling to me. The only decision I'm actively cheering for is the casting of Eva Green as Milady of Winter. 10/10, no notes, I just wish it were enough to redeem the rest of the movie
