Volunteer your time (under the cut)
🩵Mutual aid
Reach out to your neighbors – especially if you know they are staying home right now – and ask if they need groceries or toiletry items. Offer to pick up prescriptions, give rides, or shovel their driveway. If you know them well, bring them a treat that you know they'll enjoy. Or just ask them how they're doing and let them know you are there to support.
Connect with any of the orgs above and see if they are looking for volunteers.
Connect with a church or mosque in your area. From u/MuddieMaeSuggins: "I know a lot of regular Redditors are not religious (myself included) but like it or not this is a where a lot of community organizing happens, especially in immigrant communities."
Connect with your local school's admin office and/or their PTA. It's ok to reach out even if you don't have kids at the school. PTAs are organizing mutual aid for school families, safe rides, school observers.
🩵Activism
Find an official protest or other event via Indivisible, 50501, FREE AMERICA, or MIRAC. Students at many high schools are staging walk-outs; if your local school is doing this, reach out to school leadership or the PTA and ask how you can support as a community member.
Join the effort to stop Hilton from housing ICE by booking hotel rooms and then cancelling at the last minute. This action can be done from home! The effort is being organized by Sunrise Movement, who are telling activists to target specific hotels one-by-one. More info: SHUT DOWN HILTON
Find people in your area who are actively monitoring ICE and/or stationing themselves in high-traffic areas and ask how you can help. Check for local FB events where people are organizing and just show up.
At minimum, read the COPAL Handbook before you go out to observe. The DFL, Monarca, and other orgs have been hosting online trainings for constitutional observers (though these fill up quickly).
When you see ICE in action, start recording. Be as loud and as disruptive as possible: honk your horn, set off your car alarm, blow your whistle. Let people know that ICE is in the area. If you see someone being detained, try to get their name and a phone number to call their emergency contact.
If you do not feel comfortable observing ICE in person, there are ways you can support from home. Just ask the people who are organizing in your area. I have social anxiety, and I had never participated in any kind of political action before this past Saturday. If I can do it, you can!
Local organizers are requesting that people who help monitor ICE DO NOT participate in 1-to-1 mutual aid efforts, as these can put the families you are helping at risk.
If you have friends/acquaintances who are sympathetic but not politically active, reach out to them. Show them that they're not alone in feeling helpless. Pick a few low-commitment actions from this list and do them together.
so Bella says she named Renesmee after Renée and Esme, but I know she really named her after René Descartes and Smee from Peter Pan
Honestly ALL I can see when I look at her name is “Smee”. Constantly thinking of Mr. Smee from Peter Pan. It’s probably 50% of the reason I find the name so distracting. So glad I’m not the only one! Maaaaaybe the French accent would help? “Renesmée” but … I might still see Smee. And that image just doesn’t have “beautiful perfect half vampire child” vibes. At all.
And she doesn’t have a meaningful relationship with either of these characters at this point in the story. She’s been pulling away from Renee since the first book, and there just isn’t a lot of there there with Esme–there’s a lot of “tell” in like “oh you’re already part of the family!’ but we don’t SEE them bonding (not even over the baby!!! When Esme is the only one to have been pregnant and a mother before!!!! What!!!!) so her naming Renesmee after these characters, while sweet on the surface, feels … hollow. ‘Carlie’ works–you could argue, especially in the movies, that the B-plot of the whole series if Bella building a relationship with her well-meaning but estranged father. And Carlisle is a much more prominent character than Esme in Bella’s life and obviously Edward’s favorite person pre-Bella, so it doesn’t feel as off. Also it is, like, a real name? Usually spelled ‘Carly,’ sure, but ‘Carlie’ is fine. It’s not like, ‘Carrleigh’ or something.
I love y’all’s headcanon versions of the Cullens, but I deadass hate them in canon.
They had *billions* of dollars and at least a dozen houses all around the world, yet they chose to occupy the historic homelands of a tribe whose lives they knew would be altered by their presence alone.
Emmett is a good old fashioned union man who wore his red bandana and supported his brothers and friends in the mines. Emmett McCarty was raised in Appalachian community spirit and hard work and he know not to trust no scab!!!!!!
I'm 100% sure that Bella fucked with Edward once she knew he was chillin in her room at night. She prepares for when he gets bored while she's asleep and starts poking around her shit like
I think I had it started, but life got into the way. I just looked at both parts and HOLY SHIT!!! Y’all must really love Bella getting put in her place 😂😂
Cameron’s Legacy - Let’s End the Water Crisis for Him
Hi friends, Louise here.
Back in April, Cameron Boyce was honored with the Spirit Award from the Thirst Project. Cameron raised $30000 toward building wells in Swaziland. He was dedicated to using his influence to bring light to social issues like the water crisis and help those in need.
In his memory, @disney-princess-sized has started a fund-raising campaign called Cameron’s Legacy through the Thirst Project. Our goal is $12000 to build one fresh-water well in Cameron’s name.
https://my.thirstproject.org/team/239543
There are thousands of posts on Tumblr alone expressing our grief over such a tragic ending to a beautiful person. Cameron inspired so many of us to help others and make the world a better place.
So please help us, not just in remember Cameron or helping those who desperately need water, but in keeping his positivity and kind spirit alive.
In his last interview, Cameron said “I’m following in the footsteps of some really strong men and women who have showed me what it means to give back; it’s the greatest way to fulfill yourself.”
It’s now us following in his footsteps, he is the strong man who have showed us what it means to give back.
Please consider making a donation in his name to the Thirst Project, with the team Cameron’s Legacy.
So recently, I got calls from the phone number, (937) 353-8319. They claim to be a job service, and one of their “employees”, Carrigan, is friends with whoever the call recipient is, and that Carrigan has recommended you for this $15.00/h “job”. I also got a text message from (937) 607-1493, claiming to be Carrigan, and that they need stuff to “win a scholarship”. I do not know anyone by the name of Carrigan and I know very well that this is a very dangerous scam.
If you receive a call from a number, and they ask you if you would like a job for $15.00/h, HANG UP IMMEDIATELY. If you accept the “job” offer, and you go in for an interview, they will give you a drugged bottle of water and you will wake up somewhere you don’t want to be.
These phone calls & texts are from a human trafficking service, and if you oblige to them, you will be sold to people and you will be raped, no doubt about it. So PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT ANSWER THESE CALLS OR TEXTS. I have listened to the voicemails, and allowed my dad to do the same, and he learned that anyone offering a $15.00/h “job” is a human trafficker.
PLEASE SIGNAL BOOST THIS ALL OVER TUMBLR
Okay, I am reblogging this because it is relevant again. I got another call from a 353 number. Not the exact same number, but I know that it is a trafficker because it’s 353 just like the last one. I also want this to signal boost so PLEASE REBLOG THIS.
a side note, because theyre very popular around the DMV, If you ever see a sign with something akin to ‘free debt erasure’ ‘15/h job’ etc and ONLY A PHONE NUMBER, ignore it. tear it down if you can, because those are well known scams and sex-trafficking baits.do not, by any means, call or respond to these messages. do not let your friends do it. do not.
Oklahoma is one of the worst states as far as human trafficking, so thank y’all so fucking much. That’s literally my life and the lives of everyone I know that y’all just saved. Thank you. Thank you thank you thank you
If only if only the woodpecker sighs the bark on the tree was as soft as the sky why the wolf waits below hungry and lonely he cries to the moon if only if only
