Welcome!

Hey all! I'm dipping my toes back into the world of Tumblr after some time, so I thought it would be good to come back and reintroduce myself.

My name is Steph and I live in the Carolinas.

My focus on this blog is now split between Supernatural and Tom Sturridge. I'm currently watching A Discovery of Witches and Reacher.

I started writing fanfiction back in 2010 after the 100th episode of Bones (IYKYK). Once I started watching Supernatural as reruns on TNT, I knew I had to start writing for that too. Now that I've finished the first season of The Sandman, I've fallen for Tom Sturridge, so I write for Morpheus and Jake from Sweetbitter.

For my SPN-verse, I wrote some things tied to the progress of the show, but mostly I've focused on Dean, and an OC I created named Sophia.

For The Sandman, I've created an OC named Lyra that will be developing over time. Jake has an OC as well, Kate, that is developing.

While I'm still a huge Jensen fan, Tom is my current obsession, so there's a lot of his face, including a Daily!Tom posting.

How A Crack Fic Turned Into Therapy and Writing School - Part 1

Part 1

My first fanfic was a fix-it fic for Bones after the 100th episode, sixteen years ago, and I've only just now started to understand what I was doing all this time.

I wrote my first OC for Dean when I got hooked on Supernatural. She was perfect. For Dean. People commented on the story that she was exactly what he needed. And she was. She was a hunter, she was smart, she was funny and sassy, she was like a big sister to Sam. I loved writing her.

But something I always chafed at was just that: she was perfect for Dean. The Mary Sue of it all started to bug me, but I didn't know what else to do. I didn't know how else to write her. She was what fanfiction in a lot of ways pushes you to do...make the dolls and then play with them.

Then life happened. And I put down the pen. Entirely. For years. I missed it, but the creative part of me that was thrilled to sit down and write the fun banter between Dean and Sophia had crawled under the bed and refused to come out. There were a lot of things I didn't do during that time, and writing was one of them.

Something shifted about ten months ago though. I watched the first season of The Sandman right after the second season was released. And Morpheus sparked something that I was pretty sure had disappeared entirely. I wrote the first thing I'd written in nearly 5 years. Then I fell down the Tom Sturridge rabbit hole. Found Jake in Sweetbitter. Not gonna lie, first reaction was "dear god, he's fucking hot...a walking red flag, but..." So I started writing for him too.

But this time it really felt off. The OC wasn't right. The story wasn't right. I had Jake down cold. But I couldn't just build the thing he needed the same way I built the thing Dean needed. I tried a couple of variations. Built an AU. Still wrong. And I had no idea why.

Then it all fell together the day the delightful @sluttymorpheus sent me a collage of Jake and AM from Reacher.

I still didn't know WHY, but I knew this was it. I had the right love interest for Jake finally. A restrained, emotionally locked down international arms dealer and assassin as the love interest for the also emotionally locked down bartender at a fancy restaurant in New York. Sure. Why not?

So I started writing. I didn't know why it worked or why I seized on it. I just knew it was right.

While I was busy having no idea what was going on, my brain was serving up scenes. First one was "something something, he watches Jake and then they end up at the bar at AM's hotel and he orders Jake a drink without asking and then tells him how he knew he was right." The dialogue, the feelings...it was just...there.

And then I put some more around it. AM walking into the restaurant with a date, seeing Jake behind the bar, and being so transfixed, he watched him the whole time and sent his date home in a cab. The two of them flirting at the bar. Jake doing what he does best, performing for the crowd, all messy hair and sharp edges. Jake being wildly uncomfortable at being seen so clearly and wanted so obviously...but not so uncomfortable he was going to walk away.

"Just flirting," I said. "Definitely just sex," Jake replied with a nod. And then AM leaves Jake a note and orders him breakfast while Jake leaves the hotel later wondering if he'll see him again. A one-night stand. Uh huh. Sure.

It wasn't until literally months and I'm not sure how many chapters later before I realized what I was doing. While it was definitely canon-compliant (because I'm a good little fanfic writer), Jake wasn't the only one who was uncomfortable with being seen.

That was when I realized that what I thought was going to be a fun little crackfic to ship a Tom character and a Ferdie character was not going to be that at all. That where Jake ended and something more personal began was going to blur into something I still don't fully understand. And that how I write was going to be permanently altered.

Each flag was made to work decently well both on light mode and dark mode (reversi).

I am still obsessed with all the new Tom content from Cannes. Can't help it. Not gonna. I always feel like the photographer doesn't have to work all that hard to get great shots of Tom. Like ...it just happens. You just take a beautifully dressed Tom and put him wherever your photographer eye says "yes" and it turns out perfect.

His face is just ........ I don't even have the right words.
