I'm having so much fun going through a bunch of Project Hail Mary fanfic (you people are writing it so fast) but I have to say very few people are committing to the absolutely bizarre things that would happen to language in the Hail Mary over the years. Like you take two social species speaking languages the other physically can't pronounce and stick them in a confined space for MULTIPLE YEARS.

These two are going to come up with absolutely insane ways of speaking. They're going to invent weird whistling words that they can both say because their little social brains want to mimic one another so so badly. Grace is going to start speaking in the same cadence as the translation software he wrote. Rocky probably simplified a lot of his speech and probably isn't speaking in actual Eridian sentence structure. Most of the science they discuss they both had to make up new words for in their respective languages. They're going to have inside jokes so wildly dependent on context that no one will ever understand them. I understand that this would be difficult to do in a fanfic but it would be so funny. Regardless of whether they head to Erid or Earth they should be completely incomprehensible when they get there.
