This very production of Orpheus & Eurydice is now available to stream, free, for the month of June.
Yesteryear thoughts: It's funny how things Natalie gloatingly imagined happening to Reena in fact happened to her, at least four times.
Natalie imagines that Reena won't be able to conceive naturally and will have to resort to IVF: all but one of Natalie's original six children were conceived via turkey baster. Not quite the same thing, but the only reason Natalie isn't acknowledging that her children weren't conceived "naturally" is because she feels that the harsh set of rules she holds everyone else to don't apply to her.
Natalie imagines that Reena's husband will cheat on her with an early twenty-something employee while she's in her thirties and pregnant, and her husband will leave her for that early twenty-something employee: Natalie is pregnant in her thirties when Caleb cheats on her with Shannon, his early twenty-something employee (Legally, yes, she is Caleb's employee and not Natalie's, because Natalie signed the legal rights of everything over to Caleb). Yes, there are some differences. Shannon very plainly has no plans to be with Caleb in a proper relationship, and there are definite question marks over just how consensual that "affair" really was, but it's kinda spooky, isn't it?
Natalie imagines Reena becoming addicted to cocaine to cope with her stressful life: Natalie becomes addicted to valium to cope with her stressful life.
Natalie imagines Reena struggling later in life, with the only thing she has going for her being a plush retirement account: Reena is in fact doing great in her middle age, while Natalie is doing thirty years in prison, and given her age and implied state of health, there's a real chance she'll die in prison before ever getting out.
It's kinda like poetic justice really is a thing, or something...
As her dark debut about a tradwife who wakes up in the past is made into a film by Anne Hathaway, the novelist explores the sinister truth b
This is not the direction I’m meant to go in when I talk about my novel or the legacy of the tradwife. I’m meant to focus instead on the rise of milkmaid fashion, the proliferation of handkerchief headbands at Target, the sociopolitical implications of the apron-heavy spring Miu Miu line. I’m meant to talk about those consequences of “the tradwife obsession” that we are reasonably capable of stomaching. I know this because when, in response to a question about my novel, I try to talk about Renee Good, who was shot dead by ICE agents, I am gently encouraged to pivot, or alternatively reminded that what I’m saying is a bit of a stretch, and this makes me feel crazy. I’m not crazy. It’s not a stretch. The tradwife, like the 1950s housewife, is not a real person. She is not a trend, or a cultural obsession. She is an advertisement, a curated performance of womanhood with a link in bio for purchases, who has shown up, like a 1950s advertisement, to remind women of their true purpose: serve, smile, procreate and purchase.

Already know I wanna send this to people on June 1

can i be a big hater about something unrelated for a second
ok awesome
so i have finished a psychological thriller novel, and have begun the process of doing research so i can prepare to query agents. now, my novel has some pretty intense triggers in it, so i am aware it’s a bit of a hard sell– that being said, many agents have a “do not send me your novel if it has these things” list, so that’s what I’m looking for so i don’t accidentally trigger someone.
so i’m going down this list, and i find this agent. their “do not send me” list includes the following: non-consent/sexual violence, age gaps, teacher/student relationships, stalkers, cheating, everyone dies at the end, miscarriage/pregnancy, and abuse masked as love.
okay, cool! everyone has different tolerances for stuff, and it’s perfectly reasonable to not want to be involved with a story that has stuff you’re uncomfortable with. not the agent for me, but good on them for defining their boundaries.
but then i scroll back up and they’re requesting for gothic horror.
excuse me?????????
gothic horror without pregnancy or miscarriage? gothic horror without cheating? without stalking? gothic horror without major character deaths? GOTHIC HORROR WITHOUT ABUSE BEING FRAMED AS LOVE AND THE INTERROGATION OF THAT DYNAMIC?????
HEY CAN I GET A GOTHIC HORROR WITH NOTHING???
THAT’S JUST A STORY ABOUT A BIG HOUSE
All of us @ that agent using the term "gothic horror":
Joke’s on my book, though. 3 rejections and counting!
I decided to make an author blog to promote the psychological thriller novel that inspired this post, Blood Relations! The book is about a rich college student being kidnapped by his cousin, whom he blinded in one eye when they were children. Please note that the book contains themes of incest, sexual assault, graphic violence, kidnapping, and bullying. Take care of yourself and steer clear if any of that is triggering to you, but if you’re not put off, come join me and find out whether it’s too fucked up to be published traditionally!
was speeding up this footage to make a gif, but the audio is fucking golden, so its staying a video
Boots Riley really dropped a movie about the wonders of worker organization, saying no to performative men, the "out of sight out of mind" view on foreign workers, and fashion classism. And it started with a heist movie with luxury clothes.
But fr, I Love Boosters is going to live rent free in my head like Sorry to Bother You.
It's just as absurd and funny and it all actually makes sense with the themes he's eyeing.
Like, everyone died laughing when that nepo baby's leaning apartment showed up. But also, she's just choosing to live in a building that's clearly not up to code bc she's rich, in some kind of old money WASP way. But she'd call Corvette's friend "urban" for squatting in a chicken shop.
Like, she's just such an effective villain bc she's selling pointless status symbols by excluding large chunks of the population. The scene where she's having a breakdown bc velvet gang is reselling her stuff cheaply, which lessens the brand's exclusivity? There's a story of rich brits treating Burberry as chav/gopnik trash in early 2000s bc Danniella Westbrook was photographed wearing it.
But also that nepo is racist af. Like, between using terminology like "ghetto" to describe Corvette's gang and straight up stealing her work at multiple points while publicly hating her guts. But then again, isn't the fashion industry always like this?
First you see school admins dress coding for dressing like "saggy pants", then you see a crowd of white tech/finance bros that live near or at the Baltimore harbor talk about their streetwear obsession.
learning that 5 minute crafts is a russian mafia operation wasn't on my 2026 bingo card but also doesn't really surprise me
its what
russian mafia operation
Hey what
oh. i’m sure its fine and normal that a video investigating the massive bot farm/slop channel shell company connections to the russian mafia and youtube’s own implication by allowing it to continue for profit has mysteriously vanished with no word from op.
Original (now taken down) video of CHUPPL exposing SoulPublishing and 5 Min Crafts networkAn Exposé of the weirdest channel on the internetG
internet archive link
What the heck is TheSoul Publishing, and how did it get tens of of millions of followers on YouTube and Facebook? And what is it doing with
Couple of interesting things here:
1) the video got made 'private' I think within a few hours of being posted, but as people have provided it through the Internet Archive you can watch it there.
2) there's been no comments or videos from that channel since. Best case, they got lawyers sicced on them for defamation or something. Worst case, they got super murdered.
3) The tldr of the issue is this company has a network of accounts making shitty, often rage-bait content which seems to be watched mostly by bots, which is in total making them the most popular (collection of) accounts of YouTube. (the journalists' proof of bots presence is that a vast majority of the accounts which comment on the videos have been set up within seconds or minutes of commenting.) Part of the response to 'why' might be to make money, the other part the authors imply is to do with political influence.
Here's the part I find extra interesting:
4) You'd think that YouTube/Google itself would be invested in learning the truth of these claims - and in stopping these channels - because they're literally handing over millions of dollars every month to these people who don't have 'real' viewers.
But of course YouTube gets its money from companies paying for advertising. Depending on how YouTube measures success for those who buy advertising, they may have little to nothing to gain from nuking a channel like this. If bots mean YouTube can report to people who buy advertising that 'a million people saw your ad', do THEY care if none of those people were real? Esp if they're not themselves making the bots, they have total plausible deniablity.
I'm just speculating there, because I don't know how that reporting is done AND I don't know how companies then measure how sales are affected by the reach of a campaign. My understanding though is that companies accept something like a 2-5% conversion rate from ad views to sales? (I could be well off with those figures, it's been a while since I've looked into that sort of thing.) Has that rate changed over time? Are companies normalising paying millions of dollars for ads which aren't getting seen by anyone?
Considering this video has been taken down, I'm curious whether YouTube is on the creator's side - exposing mis-use of their platform and a parasite draining them of cash, or if they're against the creator, for exposing them to potential advertising clients for being aware of the problem and giving them, essentially, fraudulent exposure.

Longtime readers may be aware of how much I relish an excuse to bully a company, so I'm sharing the wealth;
Clothing company Patagonia is currently sueing drag queen Pattie Gonia for "irreparable” harm to their brand.
To be clear; Pattie named herself after the region in South America.
So Pattie is asking people to politely ask Patagonia to drop the lawsuit.
I'm extending the invitation to all of you, because sueing a drag queen for 'infringement' in the current political cultural landscape is vile. Especially a drag queen who has raised millions of dollars for non-profits, uses her platform to raise awareness for climate activism, and fully aligns with Patagonia's apparent climate-conscious mission statement.
They're claiming they're sueing for $1. They're actually asking her to stop using her name, and pay over $1 million in legal fees. They're straight up harassing her.
In contrast, drag queen Jan Sport has a Jansport bag line. It's that easy to just... work with a queen.
Anyway. Be respectful(ish), but feel free to be annoying on Patagnoia's socials, asking them to 'DROP THE LAWSUIT'
I think they have a twitter and tiktok too!
This is being discussed heavily on Bluesky, such as here.
Patagonia is suing specifically for trademark infringement, and they're suing for the sum of $1. If they don't sue, then that means they could lose the trademark. They aren't trying to "silence" them or prevent them from using the name, they're specifically protecting their company trademark. They'd have to sue *anyone* who was using such an obvious knockoff of their logo; in this case it happens to be a drag queen.
you'll have to forgive me for not weeping for a billion dollar company's trademark being violated
