Wizard City is at the center of all things. The entire city has sprouted up around Bartleby, the World Tree. Bartleby protects all worlds by eternally maintaining a connection to them along the Spiral. Wizard City is also home to the Ravenwood School of Magical Arts and its esteemed faculty of renowned wizards. All wizards get their start in learning about magic and choosing a specific class at this historic institution.

Soft rain is falling outside, darkening the cobblestone paths and streets, making the more hostile residents of Wizard City sulk and deviate from their usual path of shambling around the streets, seeking cover under the eaves of abandoned homes and grumbling. 

The leaves are changing on the cool wind that they all know is coming. The trees in the Commons will become blazes of reds and oranges and yellows. Soon, but not yet. They’re on edge as they wait impatiently, settling into their school routines and questing all the same, but still, they wait. 

October is coming soon, and with it, Halloween. 

Almost as one, wizards begin to smile, thinking of the mischief they’ll get into, the treats they will find, the power that comes with the tenth month. Their grip tightens on their wand, their quill, their book. They look through the window to the outside, the rain falling in a light patter on the roof above them. 

It won’t be long now.
