what if Simon and Ava both get yeeted to PHM universe at the time of death. as is usual, Simon onto Hail Mary, and Ava somewhere on Earth where Stratt is. maybe just post prison break. they get along, Ava throws herself into helping Stratt save Earth however possible, because saving humanity has always been her goal whichever life.

then, the beetles get back to Earth. they're watching the logs, seeing what the crew was up to. and then Simon appears on screen with Grace and Rocky and Ava is like 'what the fuck'. but Simon is there, and he's doing whatever he can to help of his own volition, and Ava can't help but feel like she misjudged the guy (she did).

so now both she and Stratt can agonize over their sacrificial lambs coming so close to making it back, but choosing not to for the sake of someone else in an impressive showcase of personal growth. and the only thing they can do is take the taumoeba and do their best.

As much as i do like Simon panicking and going into fight or flight (fight) upon meeting Grace...

Imagine Simon having lost all hope. And all he wants is to live. He askes Grace if he's going to kill him. Grace is like "no, what the heck- Im trying to help you" and Simon immediately relaxes. Not in in a calm way, but a giving up way. Hes going live, then he's got no resoneto fight. Hes never had a choice before, and he knows he doesn't have one now. Its trust this guy, or die, probably. And hes alive. So why question it? Hes not dead, and that's more than he though he had

Rewatching iron lung again (shock horror) and I’m thinking about if there was a Bloodymary AU where Grace is a scientist for the COI, he would 100% try and help Simon and talk to him through the speaker.

Can you imagine? Simon yelling at him out of anger and then apologising and Grace saying “it’s ok, I once told a man he was a staggering waste of carbon once.” And that’s what makes Simon laugh because Simon has caught a glimpse of Grace before he was put in the sub and he can’t imagine the man who he saw spinning in his chair to say that. That’s what makes it so funny to him.
