tumblr users’ obsession with self-reporting (especially as a weird form of penance) needs to be studied
you don’t need to tell the world you still like Harry Potter because it’s your comfort movie or because your dad read it to you when you were little or something like that in response to a post about the harm continued monetary support of Harry Potter causes. you don’t need to tell tumblr all the myriad of reasons you don’t like rap under a post about how rap is often misrepresented as ultra-violent or overtly sexual and misogynistic because of racism. No one on tumblr has to know anything about you. no one has to know you still read your old Harry Potter books or that the only rap artist you like is Eminem. No one is going to say “oh of course you’re the One True Good Person with a Good Reason!” when you say that rap is difficult to listen to because of your auditory processing disorder or you’re only a part of the Marauders fandom. Just keep your shit to yourself and don’t embarrass yourself under other peoples’ posts.
funniest possible reply and its not even on purpose
Tlakluit woman from the Wishram tribe dressed in bridal garb, on the northern banks of Columbia River, Oregon
"She’s adorned with a beaded headdress with Chinese coins, which made their appearance in the Columbia River region at a comparatively early date. This form of head-dress was worn on special occasions by girls between the age of puberty and their marriage. Her dress is made out of buckskin and is mainly embroidered with black and white beads, with a few more colorful ones in between. She’s even wearing eyeliner and painted her lips red."

The whole "free range kid" vs. "helicopter parent" debate takes a very different shape when you realize that it literally does not apply to nonwhite children.
And, to be clear, people are still unnecessarily preoccupied with unsupervised Black and brown children, but for them the conversation is almost exclusively about delinquency, about the danger the children pose to the community, not the danger the community poses to the children.

Are you doing okay? We missed you at the devil's sacrament. He mentioned you by name. Everyone was looking around and cheering until we realized you weren't there. If you need to talk I'm always here. At the aforementioned devil's sacrament.

The Simpson literally made a joke about this in 1997 this is a settled issue, stop giving power back to straight people
calling yourself homophobic slurs is just doing homophobic people’s job for them, you’re proving them right by identifying within it.

A photograph from the 1870’s showing tens of thousands of bison skulls. They were mass slaughtered by the U.S. Army to make room for cattle and force Native American tribes into starvation.
“Far from inciting feelings of disgust or horror, the slaughter of bison was seen by European settlers as a means to wealth, a healthy pastime, and most chilling of all, as a way to end the primary source of sustenance for the Plains Indians and so drive them from their land.”

btw if you’re fat and your partner doesn’t love you wholeheartedly, if they’re attracted to you “despite” your body, if they avoid touching you, if they look away from certain parts of you, you’re allowed to break up with that person. look at me. you can do better. you are not unloveable and you don’t have to settle i fucking promise.

The degree to which a town where A Paranormal Event happened embraces it is so scattershot. You'd think it's mainly economic, poor places - or unprofitable ventures - embrace them while upscale places don't, and sometimes it is. But then a random small town in Texas that gets tourism from no other source will do all they can to hide the legend about a UFO crashing there in the 1800s, while mansions & hotels that are doing just fine - that might even be tarnished by the association - will go all-in on ghost hunts. There's rarely any in between, though. Either they embrace the hell out of it, with a festival for it and murals, or they get mad at anyone for asking, never a little bit of recognition, a little bit of scorn
Amityville, New York, Long Island suburb it is, hates the "legend" of the Amityville Horror so much they renovated the house in question to no longer have those windows; clearly, they see it as a tragic local murder with obnoxious grifting and tourism attached. But Point Pleasant, West Virginia also avoided the Mothman for years bc again, it's a weird legend tied to a tragedy in people's lifetimes, but then the Mothman movie came out & they swiftly put up the statue & started a Mothman festival. The Stanley Hotel was already getting The Shining related visitors, and then they made up hauntings from nothing to cash-in
The places that don't embrace it might shoot you. Let me be clear. If you go to a town that doesn't like having a Bunnyman Bridge and go there to look for the Bunnyman they might shoot you. It's a land of contrasts baby
It's kind of an odd thing to brand a place with, and they're everywhere. Wisconsin alone has two towns with UFO festivals off the back of sightings decades ago. With the pitch "something extraordinary may have happened here long ago, and who knows - maybe it'll happen again??". Like a small town hyping up the day Abraham Lincoln slept in their inn, but instead of Abraham Lincoln it's a goatsquatch, and instead of sleeping at the inn it's spooking motorists in July of '75
thanksgiving is a holiday based on a falsified narrative full of white guilt and the erasure of history so what are some good native organizations to donate to this coming thursday
organizations recommended by @loneghostkid
native american rights fund
heyday berkely roundhouse
news from native california magazine
national indian child welfare association
california indian legal services
the national indigenous women’s resource center
please also consider looking into funding native/tribal food sovereignty projects if you have food to donate or money to spare. friends, please add more if you know of them and have links to provide:
native american food sovereignty alliance
meskwaki food sovereignty initiative
friends of pine ridge reservation
first nations development institute
you can also buy food/gifts from indigenous sellers or donate to gofundme fundraisers made by indigenous people who need help getting groceries, paying medical bills, or paying rent. do something to help us and our communities.
try water projects too, like the navajo water project: https://www.navajowaterproject.org/
Help DigDeep bring clean, running water to hundreds of American families. Nearly 40% of Navajo don't have a tap or toilet at home. We can fi
a lot of reservations are fucked over on water by illegal oil drilling, pipelines, or other breaches, like in the navajo rez’s case: contaminated by illegal uranium mining.
I would like to put my endorsement to the Sovereign Bodies Institute, home of the database of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. The database is trans-inclusive, the data protocols follow the desires of the families of MMIW, and this holiday season, they are collecting donations to buy gifts for the families, especially the children, of missing and murdered women.
I’d like to add Feeding Nunavut, the cost of living in the isolated north for Inuit is up to and sometimes over 5x the prices the rest of Canada is used to.
