I've had this thought since the end of the game. Like, I'm 99% sure that Urbain/Taunie should have had some side effects from being exposed to Mega Energy for so long at that point, and I wasn't the only one with that thought.
I saw some people thinking they should have died in the battle, but considering they said they were okay precisely because Mega Floette protected them, I don't think their survival was forced. Besides, considering what happens in the end, I'm very glad that didn't happen, my heart couldn't have beared losing two characters I like in a row. Others thought they should be cursed with pseudo-immortality like AZ and L, but that was obviously a side effect of a miscalculation by AZ when he created the ultimate weapon, I doubt he expected that bringing his Floette would also make him almost immortal (Floette's immortality was probably an accident too, who knows). So, when he created Ange, I'm sure he triple-checked to make sure that specific side effect wouldn't happen to anyone who activated Ange. Especially since Ange was created to contain and release energy when Kalos needed it, and it would be suck if every time someone used that power to protect the region they also became immortal.
So… No deaths and no immortality. Which is fine by me, but I still wanted a side effect of being exposed to Mega Energy for so long. And that's when I remembered exactly what I faced throughout the game: Rogue Megas.
Imagine Urbain/Taunie feeling more and more agitated and angry every day without really understanding why this is happening to them, until one day everything explodes and they transform and their friends have no other option but to treat them as they treated all the other Rogue Megas… That's it. It's terrifying, it's distressing, to know that you've changed irreparably for doing a good deed, but not to the same extent as AZ and L. AZ and L were punished for trying to unleash their anger and arrogance on the world and caused pain and death to many. Urbain/Taunie tried to do the right thing, maybe not in the right way, but they genuinely wanted to help people, so their punishment would be less.
In this AU, a small fragment of Ange ended up embedded in their wrists during Harmony/Paxton and Zygard's fight against Hyperrogue Ange Floette. They barely felt it because of the adrenaline, and when they did, they thought it was just a simple cut and they would take care of it at Hotel Z, but then they found AZ and any thought of it vanished due to grief. After a few days, with their wrists itching and becoming increasingly nervous, Urbain/Taunie ended up Rogue Mega Evolving because Ange acted like a parasite and absorbed the Mega Energy that was in them before controlling their bodies. After Team MZ managed to defeat them and dissipate the rest of the Mega Energy in them, Ange ended up gaining consciousness and became permanently fused to their wrists, but was calm and inactive unless Urbain/Taunie needed help.
This would be the basis for this AU. Maybe I'll write about it sometime, it would be fun.
Urbain/Taunie can now use Light of Ruin, and they finally understand why Floette was willing to use it on those early-game trainers. Because she can, and because it's cool as hell.
