The tribe has been trying for decades to reclaim the land.
"The Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska will soon get back about 1,600 acres (647 hectares) of land the federal government took more than 50 years ago and never developed.
A new law will require the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to return the roughly 2.5-square-mile (6.5-square-kilometer) tract of land along the Missouri River in Iowa it took in 1970 through eminent domain for a recreation project that was never built.
The tribe has been trying for decades to reclaim the land.
âThis is a truly historic moment for the Winnebago Tribe as lands that were taken from us over 50 years ago will soon be restored to our tribe,â said Winnebago Tribal Chairwoman Victoria Kitcheyan."
the wife and I maintain that data naming his cat âspotâ is yet more evidence of his deep vein of ironic humour
literally everything data does that isnât mission-critical is on like three levels of irony
the reasoning:
a logical choice would be to pick a name for his cat that represents either the statistically most popular cat name chosen by speakers of his native language (usually a human name like Oliver), or to follow the custom of taking the catâs name from its fur pattern, like âsocksâ or âtigerâ or âspotâ
but data strives not just to become more human but to be an individual, and he respects individuality and uniqueness in others
giving his cat the most popular name would not be respecting the catâs uniqueness
naming his cat after its fur pattern would be respecting its individuality but reflect none of his own
therefore data names his cat, who is orange with stripes, spot
there is absolutely no way he doesnât think this is funny, in that 1000% deadpan way he expresses himself
Thereâs also an iconic, very well known set of childrenâs books in which Spot is a dog, not a cat.
Giving a cat a name typically associated with dogs is a lovely bit of irony.
repeated viewings as an adult have definitely convinced me either the writers were bing more clever than is usually assumed, or that Data turned out as a very different character from the creative intent. Heâs funny, passionate, and deeply emotional. Just⊠not in neurotypical ways.
GREEN HELL
image 2: wake up & pack ur shit cause someone in the Green Hell between poland and belarus needs help.Â
image 3: gotta hide in the wet bushes from border patrol, but u just navigated an hour thru swamp so it doesn't make a difference at this point. soaked is soaked.
image 4: You don't risk a headlamp in these woods. its slow going but otherwise you'd never notice the blue glow of some fungi.Â
image 5: The Folks you meet don't share your language, but indicate razor wire injuries from the crossing. A red light is needed to treat the wounds, and while the rest of the group drinks the tea and trades in their soaked gear, you try to ask why they left home. Only a few recognizable words but you've heard this story before.
image 6: The next day, a local with good knowledge of the Green Hell shows you some choice forest snacks, and on your way home you pass the fence where last night's wet boots dry. This place, and the people of this place give. so. much. The forest isn't naturally a refugee meat grinder, the state had to work really hard to turn it into one.

for the last few years, Poland and Belarus are chewing up people trying to make their way into the EU. maiming, starving, killing, dividing families, and imprisoning whoever doesn't match their criteria for human. Even despite changing out their last ruling party for a gentler liberaler party, Poland has been diligently performing its role in the violence outsourced to them by the rest of Fortress Europe. dedicated anarchists and grupa ganica together with other kooks, punks, sweethearts, locals and internationals have been throwing down against their own kurwa government - on this front and others. i love them hella
That post I made over new years had people at my THROAT for saying I only buy real leather. Sorry I really do think that wearing textured plastic that will fall apart in under 5 years and go on to irreparably poison the environment is the worse option here.
if you look into the mushroom leather or apple leather or cactus leather or any other plant-based alternatives, they're all still about 50-75% polyurethane. They'll still fall apart fast and then they wont decompose except into microplastics. They're just not sustainable. I thrift pretty much all my leather garments and some of them are 30 years old and still hold up like they're new. Like there's no contest.
Lakota Nation vs. United States (2022, Jesse Short Bull & Laura Tomaselli)
DIY medicine collectives are preparing for the horrifying prospect that Roe v. Wade will be overturned.
The Four Thieves Vinegar Collective first demonstrated how to make misoprostol tablets, which are used to induce an abortion, at the Please Try This at Home conference in Pittsburgh in 2019. Last year, after Texas passed a near total abortion ban, Mixael Laufer, who runs the collective, published a 17-minute video explaining how to make the pills at home.
Laufer repeatedly shared the video again Monday night after a leaked court decision showed that the Supreme Court is planning to overturn Roe v. Wade, which would automatically trigger total abortion bans in nearly half of U.S. states. When a Twitter user asked if there was a writeup of their âhypotheticalâ abortion pill manufacturing process, Laufer responded with a link to the video.
âNot hypothetical at all. Go forth and rock it,â Laufer tweeted.
In the video, Laufer explains that, besides being used to medically induce abortions, misoprostol is also used to treat ulcers in horses. This makes misoprostol powder relatively easy to acquire from veterinary sources.
Laufer explains in the video how to dose misoprostol and how to press it into pills using a scale, corn syrup, powdered sugar, a spray bottle, and a pollen press. They explain that a three-dose regimen of misoprostol is 85 percent effective in inducing abortion. If taken with mifepristone, another abortion pill, that rate rises to 95 percent effectiveness, though raw mifepristone is harder to source.
For those wondering: the standard abortion pill is also a combination of âmifepristonâ and âmisoprostolâ and when properly dosed and used before 12 weeks of pregnancy it is very safe, significantly safer than giving birth.
In the rare cases when complications arise, you can safely see a doctor as these complication are identical to the ones you might see in a normal miscarriage.
Having doubts? Worried about interactions with other medication that you are talking or a complicated medical history? Abortion mutual aid groups such as https://abortion.eu/ can talk you through the process and can check whether you have anything to worry about.
it fucking sucks how you can do all the therapy and self healing in the world and you still have to wake up living under a capitalist death cult that's killed community and crushes your soul
congrats you want to live and be happy
bad news the world doesn't want that for you
I'll still love fully and crawl to hope until my body gives out anyway I guess
i feel like we donât talk about things like this enough
There are so many unintended consequences to well-intentioned actions. It feels like a game you canât win.
#CHIDI WAS RIGHT
The Good Place really went with making their new Point âthere is no ethical consumption under capitalismâ and I respect that
And then went on to say âblaming individuals for all of this is absurd and evil, as is locking them up for punishment instead of rehabilitationâ and I respect that
Also, âconsequentialism is a fundamentally flawed branch of ethicsâ

Why do we say that capitalism must be âdismantledâ?
Youâll hear phrases like âSmash the state!â âEat the rich!â and âSmash capitalism!â
And, yes, of course, but⊠:)
However relevant those sayings are, our work must be careful, highly organized and above all planned.
Because capitalism and all of its associated systems are not discrete, abstracted entities we can attack independently.
It is a structure, like a complicated machine with many thousands of working partsâŠ
And right now it is connected to absolutely everything.
If we do this⊠[picks up huge hammer and smashes the machine]
Then a lot of vulnerable people will die.
The machine was built and improved and redesigned and patched over the course of generations. It is very good at its intended purpose, which is ultimately to generate profit.
Every human being alive today relies on the byproducts of the machine to survive, without exception.
The machineâs engineers want it to keep working like it does. In fact, they want to optimise it.
That will kill all remaining life on Earth.
So, we must destroy the machine, quickly and carefully
We must examine its deadly programs and mechanics and replace them with alternatives we built together.
The engineers donât want us tampering with the machine.
However, we make it runâŠ
So we can make it STOP. Together.
How will YOU help us to safely dismantle the machine?

PSA ! if u search 'hobby swap' 'neurodivergent hobby swap' or 'adhd hobby swap' on facebook there are tons of groups where u can trade supplies from ur old abandoned hyperfixation hobbies so they don't go to waste
When schools offer free meals for everyone, local families reduce grocery spending. Large chains respond by dropping prices, amplifying benefits to the broader community.
Education and nutrition depend on each other.
the most infuriating thing about personal growth is that even if someone else did have the answer you needed and conveyed it to you in a precise and effective matter, it won't make sense until you're ready for it. you could hear it every day of your life and it wouldn't matter a fucking bit until it finally clicks. there's very little you can do to influence when that happens, either
