The most commonly committed crime is...
Assault! Fists were flying in s0. This is what happens when 4kids isn't around to censor violence. Yugi was the biggest target with 19 crimes committed against him.
Who committed the most crimes? Yami Yugi.
but we all knew this already.
Yami commits approximately one crime for every crime committed against Yugi.
There were 116 crimes committed across 27 episodes. That's a whopping 4 crimes per episode. Compare to DM's 176 crimes across 224 episodes, coming out to 0.8 crimes per episode.
Some additional stats:
Kaiba leads the villain crime count with 16 crimes committed.
Yami Bakura once again wins as the most murderous character, with 6 attempts at murder.
Kaiba makes 5 attempts at murder.
Despite all the attempts at murder, the Pharaoh is, once again, the only one capable of committing it (more on this later).
Yami Bakura comes in second with 12 crimes committed. I suppose this is only because he showed up late into the series. He commits all 12 crimes in 3 episodes, giving him the highest crime density.
Yami initiates 11 Shadow Games.
Now you're probably wondering, how does this compare to DM? Well.
Attempted murder still leads. There seems to be an awful amount of cheating in ygo, regardless of whether it's at card game or any other game.
As for characters:
Yami Bakura leads at 51 crimes committed. No surprise here. The Pharaoh quadrupled his crime count. Kaiba tripled his crime count. They finally let Jounouchi commit the crimes he deserves. Most of Jounouchi's crimes were from fighting people that threatened Yugi.
So now you're probably wondering: why do these numbers seem so low? What about the murders?
The Pharaoh/Yami Yugi only kills 2 people in s0: the archeologists that found the Millennium Puzzle, and possibly Zorc/Yami Bakura at the end of ep 27. Any other canon manga deaths were turned into Shadow Game mind breaks or left ambiguous.
So, Yami Yugi doesn't actually kill that many people in s0. However, no one else managed get any kills in s0, so Yami Yugi is still the most successful at murder. Combined with DM, this brings his kill count to 6.
Obligatory disclaimers:
after having gotten a lot of practice w the original dm kill count list, my process of determining what is and isn't a crime is far more detailed for s0. so the crime count number might be inflated
"mind break" is defined as whatever happens to the loser of the Shadow Game.

Villains are only listed if they committed more than 3 crimes. Yo-yo gang encapsulates crimes committed by Hirutani. Shadi is the only villain to get away relatively scot-free.
some people think writers are so eloquent and good with words, but the reality is that we can sit there with our fingers on the keyboard going, “what’s the word for non-sunlight lighting? Like, fake lighting?” and for ten minutes, all our brain will supply is “unofficial”, and we know that’s not the right word, but it’s the only word we can come up with…until finally it’s like our face got smashed into a brick wall and we remember the word we want is “artificial”.
Apothecary Diaries is pog as fuck bc serious political issues and dynamics from a woman's POV are rarely depicted in ANY form of media
It's always a man's world where women's issues surround him. Even if we get a female perspective once in awhile- it all comes back to how it facilitates his game in the end. She's a footnote in the overarching scheme of things. Misogyny exists. Back to the real plot.
Apothecary Diaries is strictly from a female perspective and how each class of woman has to act, what limits they have, what rights they have and don't have between each class, etc. These women have to behave a certain way under a patriarchy, which you would think makes it a man's story, but it never is. The women are THE focus of this show, their struggles are THE plot. The focus is about how the patriarch effects them.
Take the concubines for example. The show dives into how bearing a child affects their rank, how traumatizing it is to lose that child, the consequences of that, etc. We have barely seen the emperor who sired all these kids because this is not about him.
Jinshi's personal plot is secondary to Mao Mao's journey- he is mostly there to provide new cases for Mao Mao to solve and to learn more about the shortcomings of his class when taking care of citizens like Mao Mao.
Jinshi is not a bad person, but by virtue of his position in the higher classes, he cannot understand how harsh life as a poor WOMAN is specifically- he can only catch glimpses of it from what Mao Mao tells him and feel outrage but powerless in his wealth and luxury
Mao Mao is a fortunate commoner woman for what privileges someone in her class should and shouldn't have. She happened to be adopted by a knowledgeable man. She is allowed to read, write, learn, and has enough skill to be a poison tester and have a job EXTREMELY out of her class limit as an apothecary, also a job not traditionally meant for women
Mao Mao is not a "noT lIkE oThER gIrLs" protagonist, she is FOR THE GIRLIES. She only wants to help the women around her, and women are whom she has the closest relationships to. She sees a woman being harassed and can't let it stand. She sees a frail, traumatized woman dying from the recklessness of those who should be caring for her and spends day and night nursing her back to health, while also punishing the people who were so careless with her needs.
My girl has STUDIED UP on THE BODY to TEACH these upper class ladies on how to really HEAT things up in the BEDROOM
Sex depicted in Apothecary Diaries is both something women are not shamed to be enjoying, while at the same time being acknowledged as an unfortunately huge economic necessity to market themselves.

i’m rewatching the apothecary diaries season 1 in preparation for starting season 2 (i like to wait until a little bit into the season to start new shows) and i forgot how immediately jinshi’s whole “maomao glared at me like i was a bug and i got so hard i passed out for a second” thing started. literally the moment he realized his #prettyboyswag moves were actually making her shudder in disgust he was sooooo ready to become her full time malewife.
think abt it. he has been raised with a silver spoon in his mouth and everyone around him chomping at the bit to make him happy (besides his nanny and gaoshun’s family ig) and then this wickedly smart servant girl begrudgingly treats him with the only bare minimum amount of respect she can get away with considering their statuses and doesn’t even bother to hide her distain for his whole Deal and he’s this close to proposing marriage, eunuch cover be damned.

the amount of times maomao looks at jinshi and goes “wow, he’s so hot. anyone would want to fuck him immediately if they saw him like this. he’s like an insect in mating season (complimentary), the vibe he gives off is so universally attractive if i could sell it i’d make a fortune. it’s really a shame it’s being wasted on me, someone with no interest in him whatsoever” then continues about her day like that’s not the wildest shit ever is truly unreal like.

brute forcing my way into guessing the heights of the six years, a horrible, horrible post
a bit ago on twitter, someone posted a shot from the official animation book that had all the character heights lined up and it had me curious. so naturally, i compiled all my previous notes (yes, i had previous notes on this) and put them together into this rambling nightmare for you to enjoy. all heights will be reported in metric but im adding imperial measurements for ease of comparison.
this is all for fun and all to quench my own personal demons so its probably inaccurate but please let me have this
WITH THAT, let's begin with who I know has a definitive, at least semi-canon height stated somewhere.
GINGIN
In the tsudois (fan-gathering), Amako notes he's the same height at Heisuke at 165 cm (shorter side of 5'5). as a general note the tsudois aren't officially canon unless they later are and sometimes contradict info in the anime and manga, but i haven't seen enough contrary evidence to disprove this.
one down five to go.
Shioe Monjirou: 165 cm (5'5)
With that, here's another freebie for me. It's kind of difficult to discern sometimes, but Kema's generally taller than Monjirou for the most part. This is confirmed by the animation book height charts and also by the musical, where he's 3分 (about 1 cm) taller than Monjirou, so I don't have to lose sleep over this much. thank you kenen for making my life easier
Kema Tomesaburou: 166 cm (5'5)
Now onto Isaku and Senzou. The author has ranked the six years by height before, so i'm putting it here because i forgot to earlier.
from shortest to tallest: isaku + senzou (same height), monjirou, tomesaburou, koheita, chouji
referencing the anime imo can be dubiously helpful because shots where the characters stand side by side directly facing the camera tend to be kind of rare so heights can look inconsistent. that being said, i still compiled images for my own reference in addition to the height chart.
from the fifth years vs the six years arc and the orienteering arc.
from shuichirous debut arc. not totally side by side and they're leaning back/forward, but it might be useful
I don't remember if they have an official height stated anywhere, so I just eyeballed this one. the anime isnt super consistent but senzou looks about an inch shorter than monjirou (2-3 cm). eyeballing the animation book height chart if the gap btwn monji and kema is supposed to be around a cm, the gap btwn monji and isaku is just tall enough that I can probably safely say he's at least more than a cm shorter than 165.
for reference, the red line here is rantarou, who is I think 136 cm (4'5). as an aside, the height chart also puts the average six year to be a little shorter than doi, who's canonically 175 cm, so?
ive seen them noted as 162-163 cm a couple times before though but i don't actually know if it's canon or not, but that's already my hc anyhow, so im going to be extremely biased here.
Tachibana Senzou: 163 cm (5'4)
Zenpouji Isaku: 163 cm (5'4)
i didn't expect short senzou actually but it makes a lot of sense...
ROKURO TIME
these two were a nightmare to figure out because i had some trouble finding good shots of these two next to the other six years, so I decided to use someone else whose height i knew: kirimaru.
kirimaru is about 140 cm (4’7) and consistently goes up to a little below chouji's shoulder. chouji looks about a foot taller, so about 170 cm (5’7) or 172 cm (5’8).
to verify my work, i compared the height difference with doi, who's 175 cm. kirimaru goes up to what looks like the middle of his upper arm. or around the dark blue stripe on his casual wear here.
just for fun, i also compared these with isaku and zatto, who's 180 cm (5'11). isaku goes roughly to his neck and there's a 15-20 cm difference, so i think a 30 cm difference between kirimaru and chouji made sense.
Nakazaike Chouji: 171 cm (5'7)
the six years don't have drastic variations in height visually anyhow so i felt this was fair since he's the tallest.
koheita's height is all over the place sometimes. he gets drawn as being shorter sometimes, but i can't tell?
his hair makes him look way taller than he actually is lol. but the height disparity looks pretty similar to 1-2 cm shorter compared to chouji, so that's my ruling because i accidentally spent too much time working on choujis height. dont worry about the details, or something
Nanamatsu Koheita: 169 cm (5'6.5)
And thus, our verdict is as follows:
Senzou + Isaku (163 cm), Monjirou (165 cm), Tomesaburou (166 cm), Koheita (169 cm), and Chouji (171 cm). we did it...
just for fun, I also pulled up the official height charts for them as first years just for comparisons sake and because there's a more obvious difference in height (and also look at them...my children...)
isaku and kema actually look shorter than senzou here though which is interesting (though tomesaburou looks like the same height as him too). imagining rokuha outgrowing senzou at some point and hes kind of a sore loser about it bwaswbashwabwa...
while I was putting this post together, I also found out they have heights listed on the jpwiki...oops. but i thought it would be fun to check my answers.
Actually not that far off! im curious where the other canon heights came from; is it also in the animation book?? i don't have an actual copy of it, but it would be fun to go through especially because there's references for the other grades.
