Everyone talks about Andrew telling Bee "Everyone knows now, Bee"—and with good reason, that shit is devastating. But I feel like not enough people are talking about "Who fears the monster that knows the taste of the whip?"
Like, that is so telling of Andrew's character. Andrew, who was abandoned at birth by the one person supposed to love him unconditionally, who was taught from the age of seven that love is inherently transactional, who is literally canonically referred to as a monster by the people closest to him. Who feels like the only true value he holds for the people he loves most is his theoretical ability to act as some sort of violent guard dog capable of protecting them from not only their abusers but also the literal mafia/yakuza.
So yeah, of course Andrew is terrified for them to realize that he is quite literally just some guy with his own fucked up past and not the impervious monster they project onto him. Because if he can't be what they think he is, what they keep telling him he is and asking him to be, what use is he to them at all? And if he can't be useful, what's to keep them from leaving?
Nora, when I catch you indeed.
Thinking about Andrew being this bizarre little brother to Renee. No one is allowed to be mean to her. They beat each other up in no holds sparring for emotional regulation and bonding. He ropes her into a scheme to “casually” let Neil know he’s gay and available. She goes along with it. They have a bond no one understands. They discuss fictional hypotheticals at length. They cheerfully mess with the rest of the team. She has a better read on him than most. He gets really angry at her but never threatens her. He lets people say what they want but no one is allowed to be rude to her. He encourages her to heal from her trauma. She gives him her knives. He lets her drive his car. He’d probably menace and threaten any potential love interest on her behalf. He cares about her but trusts her to take care of herself in a way that he doesn’t for any other member of his family. They split up care of the Foxes between them. She genuinely likes and gets along with him. She’s a grounding presence and voice of reason for him. He doesn’t like her friends. That’s his SISTER. He loves and respects her. He’ll try to beat her ass. He won’t succeed. She’s too sweet for her own good. No one is allowed to be mean to her except for him. He’ll go into her dorm, knock something off a shelf. and leave the door open when he leaves. He would T pose on her to establish dominance. He’s just this annoying little gremlin that imprinted on her and now she has a little brother and she’s not mad about it.
all for the game is a not a book series it's a mental illness
matcha originated in China about 1200 years ago, açaà has been consumed by Indigenous communities in the Amazon for centuries, and Dubai chocolate was invented by combining chocolate with knafeh, an 1100 year old SWANA snack.
white people love to call nonwhite foods suddenly becoming popular in western mainstream culture "industry plants" as if they haven't always existed.
this is orientalism.

I still find It wild Andrew got Matt's mom authorization to drug him with Cracker Dust
Like, how exactly did this conversation go???
"My name is Andrew Minyard and I am in the team of delinquents your son is a part of. Matt is using drugs and my brother is an ex-addict so I cant have him near your son for risk he might relapse. So my plan is: I am gonna give your son a non addictive drug that will cause a horrible reaction when mixed to the shit he has already taken. It will leave him miserable for at least a week. If he doesnt die, he will be clean by the end. Do I have your authorization to proceed?"
This must have been the phone call of the century, because WTF
The worst is Randy going like "By all means, go on. Offer drugs to my son"
What I would give to have an extra chapter just narrating their talk. This must have been hilarious.
Andrew Minyard character of the century. He will ask for your mom's authorization before drugging you. If you dont have a mom then he will just drug you, but If you do, he will ask her.
What a fucking icon.
Aftg are indeed the most unhinged books I have read and I absolutely love It
Thinking about Neil not caring about what it means for the season because Andrew is suffering from the drugs. This boy, who wanted nothing but to play exy for some time before his inevitable death, willing to put Andrew above that. Also, no Neil was not oblivious. In TRK he literally thinks about how it would be like to have Andrew having his back, being close to him like Renee is. His mind connects that to Nicky's words about Erik. He entertains the idea then (but after Baltimore he realises that it has become way stronger). But, he does not want to because he knows he's gonna leave or die anyway. That's why he was alright with the fact that Andrew hated him but was attracted to him because he wouldn't cause any inconvenience to Andrew when he left/died. Still didn't think that Andrew would choose him over the other monsters because he believed Andrew hated him. Did not assume his feelings were reciprocated until it became explicitly evident when Andrew chose to let Aaron out of their deal. All the while, Andrew was slowly realising that this boy has become his everything and he would gladly burn the world for him. They make me sick!!!
Ok like. Imagine life without ads. You wake up, check your messages across a variety of apps, no ads. You get up and put on the tv while you prep your breakfast, no ads. Maybe you drive somewhere and switch on the radio, no ads. Maybe you drive a long distance, yet somehow, not a single billboard on your path. You pick up a newspaper or magazine to pass the time, no advertisements only articles. You turn on your game console, the home screen is just about your games, no ads to buy more. You open a streaming app, you don't pay extra for no ads, there's just no ads ever.
Think about how much of your time is spent looking at ads. "Download ublock" yeah I know, I have. But that doesn't change that the world is covered with endless advertising. Imagine never seeing that again. How much better our lives would be.
get your hands off me, you tall Frenchman with gray eyes who rides a motorcycle and cooks. I’m counting to 10,000,000,000.
so you're telling me the fifa world cup is all men? its all men's teams? and so is the superbowl? and all the sports teams that states are known for and make copious amounts of merch for are also men's teams? and only 5 women have ever entered formula one since its inception in 1950 and only two of them were able to compete? and this is normal? its acceptable?
Neil finding out that Andrew was assaulted while in rehab even though Neil went with the Ravens over break to prevent it.
The fact that Neil couldn’t care less about being tortured if it meant saving Andrew, but that still wasn’t enough
