@totally-definitely-a-bee
So initially I'm watching without audio, cause "oh cool, some pole dancing". But turn the fucking audio on
Do you know how hard it is to do this while standing still.
Do you know how hard it is to do this while doing something incredibly physically demanding.
Sound on.
So shook that I recognized them! That's Khadija Mbowe, a brilliant video essayist on youtube. Here's a link to their channel. They're brilliant and compassionate. Go check them out!
You can make it, It's Out of Touch Thursday!!!!
If you’ve never had a properly rich friend as a person who grew up and/or currently is middle class to poor it’s kind of an insane experience.
One time a friend of mine told me that she only dates men who make over seven figures a year because she wants someone with a “similar life experience” and I still wonder if I should’ve told her that that particular standard might be one of the reasons she keeps finding terrible men
You're autistic, maybe without you even being aware. You spend a lot of time alone because you struggle to socialize.
Someone decides to do something "nice" and interact with you. Maybe they call you their friend. Maybe they flirt with you a little. Maybe they get a large group of people to show interest in you so you can feel popular.
You start to feel optimistic about this. You start to believe that maybe you're not as doomed to loneliness as you once thought.
You then play along in what seems like a completely reasonable way. Since they called you their friend, you assume that you're supposed to interact with them as often as they interact with their friends. Since they flirted with you, you assume that they like that type of interaction with you and you start initiating it.
They then start to find you annoying. They only wanted to feel like they're doing something nice, not to interact with you like a person who's company they actually enjoy and value.
But they don't tell you that they find you annoying, because they "don't want to hurt your feelings" or because they expect you to take a hint. They don't tell you that they find you annoying, but they do talk to their friends about how annoying you are.
Eventually, one of their friends tells you that you're annoying and to leave them alone. And you now have a reputation of being an obsessive creep.
You wonder where you went wrong. You start to believe that it's not possible for anyone to actually like you. You start to believe that anyone who likes you will eventually find you annoying. You start to wonder if everyone who claims to like you only sees you as a charity case.
this has actually happened to me like a lot of times lmao (aside from the flirting part)
Why is the "transfeminism" tag filled with like 50% just shitting on transmascs and calling us evil? like...that's not what tranfeminism is or should be? Like I go in that tag to read about transfeminism and half the posts I see are like "all trans men should die", "trans men are all abusive", "trans men are privileged over cis women".
It's frustrating. Why am I not allowed to feel safe in my own fucking community? Why am I "evil" because I try to talk about my fucking fear of pregnancy and my need for access to gynecological care? Or menstrual care?
I think a lot of people were raised being told that things are bad with no explanation as to why they’re bad and I don’t think I know enough about psychology to make any big statements about that
but anyways I think a lot of people see cheating on your partner as bad because they were just told that sex outside of your partner is bad or something but really cheating on your partner is bad because you had an agreement based on trust with them and you broke that trust so like why should they trust you with anything else now
the op linked the study in the replies & i’ve been skimming it & it’s actually rlly rlly interesting to think abt

like this sentence from the introduction alone is fucking crazy. “approximately half of adults in the united states think that torture can be acceptable in counterterrorism.” what!
Visas being denied to players and their families
Forbidding the iranian team coaches from entering the country and forcing them to direct the game from MEXICO through a tv
Players from non european countries being stopped and searched like criminals with dogs
Deporting african referees just because of their nationality
Forbidding interviews from being spoken i'm languages other than English and forbidding journalists and players from speaking their native languages
And all this just in the first week....
If I may, I want to add the issues MEXICO is having. At least some of them.
México City was "modernized" to be appealing to tourists, not functional to people living on it. We have a housing crisis, gentrification issues, several problems with public transportation, and the government has tiptoed around those to prioritize appearances.
Madres Buscadoras, groups of mothers that search for their missing family members, have been ignored and criminalized by the president, attacked by cops guarding the stadium, alongside other protesters like farmers, teachers and students. Students and reporters were arrested without explanation, threatened with violence (women with sexual violence) and then released.
Adding to this, the number of missing people in the country is 133,000. Twice the capacity of the Azteca Stadium. Families tried to raise awareness by pasting posters with the faces of their missing people around the stadium. The governor of Ciudad de México sent workers to take them down.
To avoid "showing a bad picture of the country" streets around the stadium are being closed, hours before the games, in order to deter protestors. People living in this area (like myself) are unable to move freely.
Our president, Claudia Sheimbaum, on one of the morning reports, said México is happiness, said we don't have issues, criminalized the protestors and said they want to show a bad picture of México. Avatar fans actually compared the report to this same scene, the "There's no war in Ba Sing Se" scene.
The World Cup, FIFA, and the government are trying to silence our struggles. Don't stop talking about the issues with the World Cup and the way the countries (at least USA and México) are dealing with it. Please.
"going out to get milk" is a common turn of phrase used to describe a man abandoning his family.
the "milkman" is a common figure in stories depicting a woman's infidelity and adulterous affair.
this implies that the ability to provide milk would both decrease the likelihood of a man abandoning his wife and children, as it would eliminate the need for leaving to get milk AND would secure that man's marriage, as his wife would have no need to seek milk from an extraneous source.
therefore, all men should produce milk, through various means such as:
- being a cow
- being an almond
- being a woman
- being a coconut
- being in the omegaverse
- being an oat
(list is exemplary and not finite)
in this essay, i will redefine the nuclear family and explain the seductive and inflammatory nature of the 1993 "Got Milk?" commercials.
you shut your mouth.
A sick wizard castle with a nondescript van painted on the side. A gothy pin-up girl with the portrait of a random trucker tattooed on her thigh. A bathroom-themed beach vacation. A beautiful brightly coloured cupcake that tastes like soap.
Jesus with a portrait of my grandma on his wall. A scimitar-wielding fantasy protagonist reading about the adventures of sixth-grader Kelsey. A National Park with a framed print of somebody’s living room.
all movies are for children because the moving image is inherently juvenile. to be entertained by it even moreso
did we like, all forget about telling jokes
its gigglebait. its hehebait
“supporting neil gaiman isn’t as bad as supporting jk rowling because he isn’t using his money to hurt trans people and he doesn’t seem bigoted!” is a real take i’ve seen and i am going to blow a gasket. “he doesn’t seem bigoted” He raped and trafficked women. Paying for his works and engaging in fandom for them is giving him money and good publicity that he uses to curry good favor with the masses and silence his victims in ongoing legal battles. You are enabling a rapist and abuser.
DONT LET PEOPLE ON TUMBLR MAKE YOU THINK THAT:

pacific rim fucks severely for a lot of reasons but my favorite is that it opens with "the lizard aliens are unionizing so we built robots running on the power of love to fight them you got all that right" and before you have time to really process that concept bam gunshot body on the floor and the movie goes "now consider the vast power of grief in this setup" it never really stops considering
It also has a scene where the robot uses a boat as a baseball bat. That also fucks tremendously.
Him getting smaller and smaller as he walks up to the truck is some real Peter Jackson The Lord of the Rings forced perspective movie magic
