Tabletop RPGs are kind of insidious from a stuff-accumulation perspective because the amount of equipment that’s absolutely necessary in order to fully participate is minimal, but there’s no real upper limit on the amount of equipment it’s possible to make productive use of. There’s almost always going to be some excruciatingly specialised widget or piece of reference material that would facilitate this or that part of the game, even if you don’t strictly need it, and many more that hypothetically could be of use if your game happens to go in a particular direction. I’m pretty sure this is why Dice Culture is a thing.

When I moved out of my parents house and started playing these games as an adult, I had nothing.  I used pebbles for miniatures and borrowed dice from other players at the table (eventually upgrading to a dice rolling app when I finally got a smartphone).  I checked out the rulebook from the library when I needed it and made liberal use of the copy machine in my dorm.

Now if I had to estimate the cash value of all the accessories and peripherals I own, well… I would rather not. (but I suspect the amount would be high).  And I technically don’t need any of it to play the game!

When I first played RPGs with my friends, they told me that they would love to but it was too expensive because of books and stuff. So I brought a piece of paper, a pencil and a dice rolling app and said "now we play". We now have a weekly session and we make inner jokes about events in game

Did you see how Bilbo mimicked Thorin’s style of giving a speech? That’s one of the things I love the most about Bilbo, that after that huge travel, the goblins, Gollum, the wargs, the Dark Forest, the barrel ride and more, he still has that hobbit spark on him. I just love him

I have this idea for a fiction where all exorcists are atheist or at least not fervently religious. Here's why: God knows that if he had people of faith battling demons they will eventually rely on him for help, and He knows he's unable to help them in that situation. So he picks really smart, non religious people for the job so they know and accept from the beginning that they're alone in this war. Btw, the exorcists are conscious that if God was THAT Almighty he wouldn't have let the demons out of hell
