Buzzard Run 12.7.2014
I've only run 5 miles this week...
...but I've done some climbing and lifting too, at least.
Sometimes you just need a break, and I had big training weeks the past month.
I need XC skis, stat.
DWG Fatt Ass 50k - 1st place. Course Record. 5:18:52. I rocked Rocksylvania (and New Jersey).
Brutal 29.3 miles on the Pennsylvania section of the Appalachian Trail.
4377ft of vertical ascent, 6:21:39.
WEEKEND OF PR
This past weekend was the Runner's World Half & Festival in Bethlehem, PA. This is my local half, since I work at Rodale, the company that publishes Runner's World. It's always a fun experience running through familiar streets with familiar faces.
While I've done the half-marathon every year, this year was my first doing the Hat Trick: 5km, 10km, and half-marathon. I managed to PR in EVERY race!
5k: 18:12 (14th Overall)
10k: 38:33 (15th Overall)
Half-Marathon: 1:24:28 (23rd Overall)
Hat Trick (8th Overall - scored on cumulative time)
Now back onto the trails and mountains. Delaware Water Gap 50km Fat Ass race on November 8th is the next event. Then adventuring into the winter until PHUNT 50km and Houston Marathon in January.
Logging footage from the first two days. #100miles #trainracebeer #trail #documentary #film @gopro
DAY TWO: I've only run at one location, and filmed twice, but I'm already loving the life I am capturing. I need to start turning the lens on the rest of life too.
DAY ONE
First run was a twilight 8 miles on the trails of South Mountain near my office. Took a pretty good spill tripping on a root.
Started filming with the GoPro to kick off the documentary I am going to make of this whole journey to completing my first 100-miler.
Working title: "...but what if I make it"
I think that's the most logical title because of all of the doubt I am sure to run into, and this is/will be my mantra to keep on trucking.
100-MILES
I should start training for my first 100-miler. My plan is to run Massanutten Mountain Trails 100 in May.
Tomorrow is the first of October. Good starting point, eh?
I also want to film the entire training/life leading up to and including the race, and make a documentary about this immense first-time experience. I think making the project will keep me motivated through the cold dark winter.
The best way to add mileage to your long runs is to just get extremely lost
This is my training plan for any race.
It's UTMB week and I am obsessing by making a list of all the races I could do in order to one day qualify and run that race.
One of these days (honestly, probably not until October), I'll start picking up training again and building a base until 100-miler training really begins !!!
20 cold, wet, miserable, early, foggy, fast miles. FINALLY. Summer running is horrible. Bring the freeze.
Ryan Sandes following in others' footsteps proving that there is plenty of frontier left on the Earth's surface. Such an inspiration.
Obsessing over Swiss hip-hop. I can understand about 50% of what they're saying...and I MUST learn Schwyzerdütsch !
Fun fact: My training plans only ever go as far as "Get in over your head and dig yourself out of that rut". It makes properly coordinated efforts a breeze.
Appalachian Trail
It's great being so close to the AT. I camped and backpacked 30 miles this weekend. My feet took a beating, but they'll be stronger because of it.
Keep on truckin'.
