I hate when people refuse to understand sapphic community gender dynamics and how they do not work the same way as cishet gender dynamics, at all. femmes have been active protectors of everyone else in the community, providing cover, deescalating, protecting people who are not as gender conforming with any tiny modicum of relative privilege being gender conforming gives them. gender does not work the same way in a community that doesn't revolve around cis hetero patriarchy, and people coming in and pretending it does are just revealing they do not know anything about the community and its history and are seeking to shape it to their own view of gender instead of participating in it.

men and women shouldn't be treated differently. This is a basic, obvious position. But people are constantly disputing it with dumb shit.

"What about men being stronger?" Strong people of any gender should be using their strength to help people??

What about hormones? Anyone with a hormonal issue should be treated with compassion about it.

What about pregnancy? anyone who gets pregnant should be treated accordingly. this is a medical and policy matter.

We do not have to treat people of different genders differently when we can simply treat people as individuals and deal with the material facts of their individual lives. We can just treat people as individuals and stop forcing people into gendered categories. We can stop any time.

one cool thing is that you don't have to have a concrete gender identity to start changing your life and your body. you don't have to be like "I am THIS specific identity, I am CERTAIN!" you can just start taking testosterone and figure it out later. it's your body, if you want your body to be different you can just do that. it doesn't matter.

Another cool thing is that you can go to a gender clinic or other informed consent clinic and not your regular doctor, and also not tell anyone, try hormones for a month, and decide if you like them before moving forward with the social transition, which requires a lot less bravery than the old method where you were forced to live as your gender for a year before being allowed hormones.

a lot of chronically online people see trans men as an easy and acceptable target for sexism and misogyny because they can use semantic fog and word games to pretend they are doing fun feminist "I'm a misandrist!" jokes while actually saying all of the misogynistic and sexist things they would love to say about cis women but don't feel like they can (yet)

Cis women ARE doing this too. Being a woman does not inherently make you not sexist. Sexism came free with growing up in this society. You have to actively work on getting rid of it. And that's true for everyone. Some people are more dangerous when wielding sexism, but we all need to unlearn it.

Studies show that approaching youth with a bystander-intervention model is actually a lot more effective for reducing sexual assault, and it is also more enthusiastically received than programs that bill themselves as anti-rape.

We can tell youth that they are basically “rapists waiting to happen” (anti-rape initiative), or we can tell them that we know they would intervene if they saw harm happening to someone and we want to help empower them to do that (bystander intervention). The kids jump in with both feet for the latter! It was amazing to see children (and young boys in particular) excited to do this work and engage their creativity with it. Also, studies show that not only do they go on to intervene, but they also do not go on to sexually assault people themselves. Bystander intervention also takes the onus off the person being targeted to deter rape and empowers the collective to do something about it. It answers the question in the room when giggling boys are carrying an unconscious young woman up the stairs at a house party, and people are not sure how to respond and are waiting for “someone” to say or do something.

This is also, btw, how the US drastically reduced drunk driving in the US. Telling people they shouldn’t drive when intoxicated made absolutely zero difference. A slogan-and-ad-campaign for “Friends don’t let friends drive drunk!” changed drinking culture. Going after the bystanders is quite often the most effective thing to do in any social change.

Fascists don't want kids to learn sex education because while they say it's to prevent access to "lewd" content and "alternative lifestyles", aka other people existing that aren't cishet, in reality it helps kids prevent being assaulted.

"Sex ed protects kids from predators" is also part of the reason fascists are against it. Look at how MAGA are trying to rehabilitate Epstein and saying shit like "partying with Epstein isn't a crime!" Look at how many prominent far-right figureheads were close to Epstein in the first place, and how Epstein himself was a eugenicist. Not all predators are fascists, but all fascists are predators.

Fascists hate sex ed because it reduces their ability to prey on women and kids. The sleaze is the point.

Good time to mention that the Unitarian Universalist church has a sex education program called Our Whole Lives (OWL) and many of the resources are available for free online. The program is designed for age-appropriate discussions of bodily autonomy, gender, sexuality, sexual health, and all forms of sexual and non-sexual intimacy starting in kindergarten and continuing through to adulthood. If you or someone in your life is in need of comprehensive, compassionate sex ed it's a great place to start.

when I was younger, I got food poisoning. I was supposed to recover from it, but I wound up with a bunch of nasty medical conditions instead. I never imagined I would become disabled from food.
