Being Hercules's daughter wasn't easy.
(Y/n) always felt the need to prove her self, in anything she got her mind to. Academics, sport.
She always had the need to be the number one.
Something that was proven rather difficult, when she was surrounded by so many special children , who excelled in so many things.
But she enjoyed it. She never liked things easy.
She loved a challenge.
"You know , your form is a bit off , today!"
Speaking of challenges.
Luis Madrigal made his way to the training arena she was currently working on.
He walked with his head held high and that damn smirk he always had when he was talking to her.
(Y/n) chuckled, lowering her sword, totally abandoning the fighting stance she preciously had.
"Care to show the damsel in distress the correct stance then, Madrigal?" She spoke with honeyed sarcasm , as she turned to look at him.
"I'd be a fool to ever underestimate you , Diosita" he laughed, grabbing a sword and taking a stand on the opposite side of her.
It was her time to smirk . She spun the sword once, letting the blade whistle through the air before catching it behind her back. He stared on awe.
She really was an artist with the sword. The weapon was as fitting in her hand, as a fiddle was to a musician.
"What?" She asked intrigued
"Nothing."
"You're staring."
“I’m trying to figure out how someone can look that intimidating and that beautiful at the same time.”
"Enough, with the flirting, Madrigal." She shook her head , trying to hide her blush
"Alright, take the second stance again" he said , focusing . She did.
" Now see , your feet are a little too close together"
She looked down , widing her stance. "Like this?"
"Almost" he hesitated, then held his hands up . "May I?"
She nodded
Luis carefully gestured toward her back foot without touching her. “Move that one back a little. There.”
She adjusted her stance.
“Better?”
“Much better.”
He stepped around her, keeping a respectful distance. “Your shoulders are tense too. Try relaxing them.”
She exhaled, lowering them.
“Like that?”
“Exactly"
"Okay , I've got this" she straightened confidently "wanna go for a round?" She asked as she rolled the sword through her palm, letting the blade arc lazily through the air before settling into her grip.
"Uuh , sure. " He swallowed
"Are you scared?"
Luis glanced at the sword in her " I probably should be".
She smiled and nodded "Probably"
She tightened her grip around the hilt and settled into her stance.
Luis barely had time to raise his sword before she moved.
She surged forward, her blade cutting through the air in a swift diagonal strike.
Luis caught it with his own.
The impact rang through the courtyard.
She twisted her wrist, slid her blade along his, and immediately followed with another strike aimed at his side.
He stepped back just in time.
“Starting strong, huh?”
“You always said you loved a challenge.”
“I do."
She attacked again.
A horizontal sweep.A quick thrust.
A fent to the left before she turned and brought the blade around from the opposite side.
Luis blocked each one, but she kept him moving.
“You're enjoying this,” he said, breathless.
She smiled. “Maybe.”
She spun away from his counterattack, letting his blade pass harmlessly behind her.
Before he could recover, she stepped back into range and their swords locked together.
They stood close, blades crossed between them.
Luis looked at her with a grin.
“You know, you could give me a chance.”
“I am.”
She pushed his sword aside.
“I'm giving you a chance to keep up.”
Luis laughed and lunged.
This time, she met him head on and with a swing of her arms , she sent his sword flying though the air , before catching it with ease in her other hand.
" You were saying about my form?" (Y/n) teased handing him back his sword.
"I got distracted"
She laughed. "By what?"
"Your face."
"My face?!" She asked incredulously.
"What ? You've got a very distracting face." He laughed , a warm feeling spreading across his cheeks.
"You wanna go again?" She asked out of breath , rolling her shoulder.
"Maybe you should take a breather." He suggested , offering a bottle of water. "You've been training for hours"
" I can go again!" She frowned.
" I know you can" he stepped closer "that's not the same thing as saying you should"
"My father did not become a hero by talking breaks"
"He didn't become one by exhausting himself either." He argued, grabbing her hand. "Common" he pulled her
" Where are we going?" she followed hesitantly
"Somewhere you can sit down for five minutes."
He lead them at the edge of the courtyard, where they sat in the shade. Shoulder to shoulder.
Luis gently took the sword from her hand.
"You worry about me too much " she spoke after a few minutes of silence.
He glanced at her taking her hand in his once more. "Someone has to"
She tried to hide her smile and her expression softened.
You know I'm not fragile.”
“I know.”
“Then why do you look at me like I am?”
“Because being strong doesn't mean you don't deserve someone looking out for you.”
She went quiet.
Luis smiled faintly. “Besides, I like looking out for you,Diosita.” she bit her lip shyly.
" You're very sweet" she whispered, squeezing his hand.
"You need to take moments and relax , (Y/n)" he breathed, glancing at their hands.
" I will" (Y/n) sighed "Just not today" she stood up and made a move to grab her sword ,that was sitting beside Luis on the grass.
" Nope!" He tagged on her hand that was still in his pulling her back to him.
(Y/n) stumbled as Luis pulled her back, catching herself before she slammed against him.
Instead she fell, landing on her butt, between his legs.
"Luis!" She said warningly.
" Five more minutes"
"Three" she argued
"Ten"
"Don't raise it!" she laughed raising her eyebrows.
"Maybe I just want to spend time with you" he breathed making her heart flutter.
"Is that so bad?" . She glanced into his eyes. She wanted to stay with him.
"It's not" she muttered softly.
"Good" he smiled.
Maybe she could take a few minutes. Maybe for the first time in a while she could relax , next to him.
Maybe for the first time she felt as if she didn't have to prove anything.
And for once, (Y/n) didn't feel guilty about staying still.
For five minutes, she could simply be herself.
And somehow, with Luis beside her, that felt like enough.
